Abstract

The article investigates the internal communication in the two branches of foreign banks in Kelapa Gading from the perspectives of two-way symmetrical communication and internal marketing. The second problem investigated is the effectiveness of the use of email as a means of internal communication. Data were collected through interviews and literature. The results showed that the perception of employees not in accordance with the concept of two-way communication and internal marketing, but this policy has led the organization to these concepts. In the use of email, employee perceptions still see that the email is an effective internal communication media despite having many weaknesses.

Abstract

This article describes the role of myth and some universal themes of myth, such as the creation of the world, a huge flood, death, and the end of the world. Almost all the world's myths concern this universal themes, as seen from the similarity of some of the myths followed by many cultures in the world. These myths have primary functions to human’s behavior and attitude because people keep telling almost the same myths to their predecessors. The goals for this research are (1) knowing the functions of myths with famous themes from various culture and (2) knowing the background and relationship between myths and modern culture. The result describes the relationship between the cultural myths, where the core of the story is the truth of humanity. In addition, myth acts as a template to organize their daily activities as well as human activity, but it also serves to introduce human to a greater power in the universe. The values in each story will be interpreted as rules and customs that must be met, and this has resulted in the emergence of a culture passed down from generation to generation.

Abstract

With the goal of increasing tourism rate, the government plans to reclaim Bali Benoa Bay and Pudut Island to build an integrated tourism area. This plan was rejected by residents fearing the loss of livelihoods and the natural environment is damaged as a result of reclamation, this negative impact was felt when the local government reclaimed the area of Serangan.The purpose of this study was to determine how online media Balipost.co.id and Kompas.com framed the reclamation cases in Bali Benoa Bay. This study used framing analysis, namely by selecting the news published in two online media from August the 1st to 10th, 2013. Result of the study was the differences in the framing of the news. Kompas.com tended to be impartial and focused on the elements of "how". While Balipost.co.id had taken a stance rejected the government reclamation plan and focused on the elements of "who" and "why". Suggestion from this study was the government should establish relations with mass media to communicate with the public, especially when there was a new policy involved.

Abstract

In today’s professional world, one of the most widely ethical topics discussed is about employee’s personal style, that is unique, but cannot be categorized as professional. Personal style is considered as one of the rights of employees to express themselves and is not be regulated by the company. However, image of the company is reflected in the personal style and appearance of its employees. Therefore, this article examines the importance of personal style and the impacts on professional image as perceived by executives from various industries in Jakarta. Data were collected through interviews and literature. Results showed personal style is very important in the industry related to customer relations and retention, as well as personal style has a significant impact on the professional image of the individual and the company.

Abstract

Productivity of the company depends on a leader's attempt to control staff via two-way communication. Binus University as a university that relies on IT-based communication has several advantages: cost, distance, and time reduced. However there are also a few problems, such as unreadable nonverbal communication and lack of formality and respect between subordinates and superiors. This study aims to determine vertical and horizontal communication in Binus University which form leadership style based on company local wisdom so that the company may become an institution of higher education that counts. In addition, study aims to determine how corporate culture may establish the company local wisdom in Binus University. Study used descriptive-qualitative method by doing interview and observation to some key informants. Results show that Binus University implements vertical and horizontal flow of information for communication openly and equally within the university. Leadership in Binus always embeds culture that becomes values of Binusian which are composed of 5 points: trust in God, sense of belonging, sense of closing, benchmarking, and continuous improvement in every meeting between leaders and employees. Binus University has also implemented three components forming company local wisdom, namely transformational leadership, culture and corporate structure, and effective knowledge transfer method.

Abstract

The ratification of the Indonesian Act of Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE) on 21st April 2008 is still causing controversies to this day. In 2014 there were a number of controversial cases related to “loopholes” in UU ITE alone. Among them are three cases to be discussed in this research, which occurred in social media. These cases are Benhan vs Misbakhun, Florence vs citizens of Yogyakarta, and the case of Bupati in East Kutai. Research questions addressed in this paper focused on regulatory and ethical perceptions of the above cases. This research used a qualitative approach with case study using in-depth interview and literature review, to understand behavior of social media users in relation of the cases as stated above.

Abstract

For manufacturers, product packaging designs play an important role in influencing sales and function as a means of communicating the product or corporate image to its consumer. Article examined the influence of packaging design on consumers’ cognitive response and their behavioral responses. Cognitive response of a packaging design was assessed through five brand personality factors from selected products, while consumers’ behavioral response was assessed through a range of approach – avoidance behavior. Data were collected by survey questionnaires to Bina Nusantara college students who have recognized or  tried the selected products before. The conclusion of this study is the more positive product packaging design influence, the greater the tendency of consumers to show approach behavior, and vice versa.

Abstract

Article presents one part of pop culture is crime portrayed as entertainment in television shows. Television has the means of information and entertainment, resulting in the shift of crime shows, initially crime was portrayed in the news but due to the high popularity, it becomes part of the entertainment as well. In terms of information, the most famous of crime drama show is Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), and this show gave effect known as the CSI effect, which is people have more appreciation to scientific evidences and DNA testing in trials. On the other hand, with so many shows involving crime resulting in cultivation impact, which is accumulation and the formation of perception of reality. People who are more exposed to this crime show will form the same perception as the one depicted by television and resulted to changes in their behavior. Several proposals to reduce this negative effects are audience learning, the use of rating system and electronic key in television set.
