Abstract

Nirmana (basic design) is a compulsory major for School of Design-Binus University student. Basically, nirmana related with perception of the sight sense (visual) through organizing sensation components which has related pattern or similarity so that becomes one unity that can be appreciated. Nirmana course prepares the student to have sharpness and sensitivity to visual elements that is the core of the disciplines from art and design, along with its branches. In practice, curriculum Nirmana may not necessarily be applied to all courses. On course of study animation, adjustment is needed, and even some modification to achieve the purpose of learning that is based on the vision course of study. This course study of animation has unique characteristics and slightly different content from other courses, where visual is not the only aspect, but inherent with motion, audio and storytelling. This research aims to discuss the formulation of learning strategies for Animation Courses so it can run optimally.

Abstract

According to Bank Indonesia, the currency redenomination is simplification by reducing the three-digit number zero, without reducing its value. Fundamental changes in the nominal rate of writing, become very urgent in terms of design drafting new bills. The process and method of creating the work is qualitative, ie, empirical studies of cultural phenomena in the creation of this work aimed at deepening the validity of the data, the researchers involved in the search for the data directly in the field. The way it can play a significant role in revealing and unravel the problem, in order to create connectivity in the creation of the work needs to be focused on the core message. The findings are contributions of renewable and creative solutions in the manufacture of paper currency design planning of Rupiahs, including the proposed vertical format that has never been applied to the design of paper currency of Rupiahs. Then the proposed implementation of security features barcode, which has advantages and superiority in facilitating the detection of counterfeit banknotes, will make digital counting faster and more accurate than manual.

Abstract

On this essay, the main topic is related to one of the branch in visual communication design, typography. In the early days, typography derives from hand writing, but nowadays, it has been developed digitally by means of computer. The presence of computers facilitate in making digital typefaces, especially decorative ones. This contributes to its quantities and vast distribution. Literature studies conducted to further understand the definitions and characteristics of digital typefaces. A decorative typeface owns a certain visual characteristic which in the end limits its usage. Certain characters in decorative typefaces often associated with particular moods or impressions, which can be used to deliver a message. Next is the ideation and visualization by students and teaching staffs in typography class using both analog and digital media to produce typographic compositions using decorative typefaces. The final step is to analyze the compositions to capture its intended message.

Abstract

Digital production proses using integrated image editor software, which has own drawing tools function, makes easier producing textures material that applied in 3D model. The feature of image editor combined with 3D Editor Software makes the easier adjustment of 3D model needs when we see the visible improvement, so the software utilization will be more efficient. In the discussion, this study is done by making the production of 3D model, that is the 3D Character that has material texturing from utilizing the available image editor software features, so the alternative production by using the integrated image editor is possibly to be done. The discussion can be utilized as an insight into the manufacture of technical design in determining the design workflow of 3D models. Utilization of software take one example of software Maxon Cinema 4D version 14, which is used as a reference as software that integrates image processing therein.

Abstract

In a visual communication, the main thing is a communication which can solve the existing problems, not just as something beautiful to look at and considered. The most important part in designing visual communication when the communication is correct, attractive and persuasive. Semiotic understanding becomes important to study in the early stages of designing a visual communication that is intended to improve the effectiveness of communication. Semiotic itself is the study of the meaning of a sign in a particular context. To more easily understand the meaning of the sign, then the practice of visual meaning in the form of character design is made. This study was conducted to make students understanding of the meaning of a sign in a particular context through self-exploration. With the relation between the object being studied by each individual then a design experience will arise. This experience will create a more meaningful and in-depth exploration to students in the understanding of their studies about the meaning of a sign in a particular context. This study is used the method of visual exploration strategy that is commonly used by designers to convey the idea.

Abstract

Neighbour Programme was initiated in 2010 by three institutions from Southeast Asia: Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand; then Indonesia joined them a year later in 2011. These institutions, which specialise in art and design, decided to develop a project about cultural exchange that aimed to reconnect art and design in the form of a dialogue and research as practice. This project also intended to include forming mutual networks to organise exchange programmes, creating cultural collisions within this mixture. Based on thought that Southeast Asia’s countries have the same root of art, culture and heritage, Neighbour focused on searching a different topic each year that could be explored and developed into knowledge and understanding for both students and lecturers, and hopefully to publics about their own visual culture. Neighbour has running since 2010 and still developing until present. This project has used different methods, such as Constructivist Learning that gave new perspective of gaining knowledge; and hopefully Neighbour will keep trying to find a new method to engage art, design, and culture with publics internationally.

Abstract

Graffiti works are often found in urban area, so it becomes culture expression of a city represented through art (urban art). At this stage, graffiti is classified in the genre of street art. There is high enough desire for graffiti artists to interact and convey their message through their works with public. Thus, public spaces, such streets, become a choice for space and inspiration to them to work as well as exhibitions. Everyday issues, which according to Charles Baudelaire (1863), become inspiration for impressionist painters to paint modern subjects. Modern subjects in the form of everyday problems occur along the way in Paris, bridges, and roadside cafes. What was disclosed by Baudelaire is still factual at present, that the road becomes the source of inspiration collection. This study used field research, literature studies, and interview. Meanwhile, research object was graffiti works in Bandung. Research showed street art, in this case graffiti, was a symbol of resistance and response to actual political conditions. Walls and other objects commonly found in the street or public space were a stretch of ideas and canvas for graffiti artists.

Abstract

Glass is a clear and see-through material that comes from SiO2, which is a form of sands heated to 2000oC until they are melted. Glass has its own characteristics, such as: hard, transparent, clear, and fragile. The use of glass can be applied in a wide range of building elements, for example: roofing, walling, flooring, window and door, even staircase elements. By this wide range of utilities, this material could be very useful in design process. It can provide a wider view for small room with a lot of partitions or wall. It is because this material allows the light passing trough the material. That’s why people are able to see what’s behind the glass and eyes can see-through although the glass wall is limited by the glass. Hopefully, the research about diversity of glasses will be useful for designer, architect, and community in interior design and architecture world.

Abstract

There are no television channels especially for children in Indonesia. Children’s programmes usually air early in the morning or in the afternoon. Most children watch television during Saturday and Sunday where most of them do not have to go to school. Children could watch any programmes airing during those times. There were not many content analysis researches looking at advertiments aired in television before in Indonesia. Therefore, this study looked at advertisements shown on Saturday and Sunday by using quantitative method. Quantitative method used was content analysis. Four private channels were chosen with a total 120 hours of television program recorded on Saturday and Sunday. This study showed that 37 out of 120 hours of television were advertisement with 6898 advertisements (promotion and products). Children in Indonesia were exposed to many advertisements on television on Saturday and Sunday.

Abstract

Living in the midst of a changing business environment, which many people are burdened with more than one responsibilities, especially in a company with very high business activity and also in highly competitive industry, is imperative for the leaders of the company to be able to manage their time well in order to survive and be able to move in a sustainable manner. The concept of time management began during the industrial revolution and became a modern idea about doing things effectively and efficiently. Time management is one of the basic skills needed to be successful in life. The findings of various surveys indicated that time management enabled organizations or companies learn to survive in the face of competition and achieve a lot of success in business.
