Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the strategies used by public relations of PT PERTAMINA (Persero) MOR III to improve brand awareness of 5,5 Kg Bright Gas product, which was new. The research used a qualitative descriptive method by case studies, which had restricted clearly through the existing focus research. The technique of data collection also acquired through a semi-structured interview, observation, documentation, and research reference. This research would respond to the strategy of public relations of PT PERTAMINA (Persero) MOR III to improve brand awareness of 5,5 Kg Bright Gas product. Attainment from this research told that public relations of PT PERTAMINA (Persero) MOR III have done PENCILS strategy to improve brand awareness of 5,5 Kg Bright Gas product. It concludes that public relations have done all of PENCILS strategy, however, the implementation of the strategy is not yet fully maximum. There are still many things that need to be considered related to planning strategy which is more complete and ready.

Abstract

Article intended to find out the most frequent ambiguity that could be found in the sentences and the intended meaning. Data were taken from Kaskus and Facebook web sites, and then tests were given to students who had learned syntax and semantics to know their ability in noticing ambiguous sentences. The results show that there are among 13 sentences or phrases, 12 of them are lexically ambiguous and 1 sentence is structurally ambiguous. From the result, it can be concluded that there are many people making an ambiguous sentence without realizing it.

Abstract

Online media faces the challenge the urgency of news delivery, fierce competition in capturing audience attention, and changing of audience demography toward younger audience. So, media workers are required to use various means to attract Internet readers. One of the ways is using simpler and more popular language in delivering the news. This study tries to find out if it prompts online news media to undermine formal language because the use of popular words that are still not accepted by Indonesia's language authority and the type of nonformal language used. Research used quantitave approach to analyze the usage frequency of nonstandardized language by two major online media in Indonesia: detik.com and kompas.com, and case study to analyze the nonstandardized titles used. Study concludes that detik.com used considerably higher percentage of nonstandardized words compared to kompas.com. In one day, around 5% of the news titles published by www.detik.com contained one or more nonstandardized words; while less than 0.002% of kompas.com's news title used nonstandarized words. Judging from the popularity of kompas.com, it can be assumed that interesting and attractive titles can still be written without nonstandardized language. Furthermore, the nonstandardized words used were mixed from foreign languages, local dialects as well as slangs usually used by youth. This assumption will be used as hypotheses for further study.

Abstract

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional organization in the countries of Southeast Asia established in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 8, 1967 (the Bangkok Declaration) by Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. One form of cooperation that could further encourage the establishment of ASEAN's goal was legal cooperation. This was because, this cooperation could further strengthen cooperation in politics, economy, social and culture in Southeast Asia. This paper aimed to identify and learn how the real prospect of legal cooperation could be realized. Therefore, it should be known that areas of cooperation of the law which allows conducted cooperation among ASEAN countries use sectoral laws as an alternative legal cooperation. Method of this paper was comparative law in the ASEAN countries due to the countries in Southeast Asia have different legal systems. The result of this paper is the prospects of ASEAN legal cooperation is very open to be realized, because the settings are clear legal basis exists and regulated. Just to get to the realization of such cooperation, the ASEAN countries must have a strong political will to become solid cooperation.

Abstract

This research was aimed to know the values being implemented in the community to maintain the existence of the custom in Ulu Danau village in South of Sumatera province. The method applied was ethnography with a qualitative approach. Then, the data were collected by observtion, which would be analyzed and concluded. The results of the analysis and discussion show that Semende people in the village of Ulu Danau see the custom of Tunggu Tubang and Jenang Jurai as normal things to create the responsible character, and moral character that will be embodied in the implementation of Besundi, Besindat, and Besingkuh. The value of responsibility on Tunggu Tubang custom teaches the value of hard work, the message, honesty, and discipline. As for custom of Jenang Jurai, it is shown through the value of independence, democracy, fairness, and tolerance. Besundi Besindat Besingkuh show the values of mannerism and deportment. Last, it is seen as efforts by the people in the community to maintain the custom by giving the space and an emphasis on it.

Abstract

This article tries to map the social condition by classifying the CSR (corporate social responsibility) main theories. The purpose of this social mapping is to identify the predefined indicators related to socio-political and cultural conditions. This method concentrates on a relative ranking of people’s socio-political and cultural conditions, rather than making an absolute assessment. The object of social mapping survey is the stakeholers and people related to the business activities of the coal mining corporates in the regent of Kutai Barat, Kalimantan Timur. By identifying the socio-political and cultural aspects, the corporate can anticipate and avoid any social conflicts about their business. The social mapping on socio-political and cultural aspect is very important for any coal mining corporates before launching their business on exploring as well as on exploiting by the CSR program. The CSR field presents not only a landscape of theories, but also a proliferation of approaches, which are controversial, complex and unclear. The social mapping on socio-political and cultural aspects is usefull for any coal mining companies at Kutai Barat in implementing the CSR. The CSR theory, in practice, presents four dimensions related to profit, political performance, social demands, and ethical values.

Abstract

Batik printing, especially imported batik printing has threatened Indonesian handwritten batik and Indonesian stamp batik. Batik printing, that from the point of view of post-modern aesthetic is called pastiche, is an imitation of Batik that lack of authenticity and orisinality. Ironically, Indonesian people, especially those who live in Jakarta and who always want to preserve Indonesian culture by wearing batik, are often wearing imported Batik printing. This allegedly occurred because majority of people who live in Jakarta are always searching for an identity. They are new comers that come from many Indonesian areas; that had already lost bonding with their origin areas. Therefore they easily fallen into imitation that can provide identitiy –eventhough it’s only an artificial identity- such as batik printing. Batik printing is able to provide an artificial identity by stimulating a nationalist image. People didn’t realize they have been living in fatamorgana of post-modern era. In this era, image becomes very dominant. It constructs reality, an illusive reality. People in Jakarta become concerned only with appearance and style. They have merged into a massive consumption.

Abstract

Due to the development of technology in film and video in a decade, there are many opportunities for a graphic designer for more experiments in the moving images. This development brings convenience for both video technology and data transfer or video result, which allows a graphic designer not only saw one static design in print media, but make it more active and dynamic. For instance, if a logo created in motion version, this will enrich and convey the meaning behind the logo, although it appears briefly in 5 seconds duration. A graphic design does not have to be a static or passive; it can float, jump, fly, dance and also change shape into different shapes. After defining the visual elements in motion, it can be achieved stunning results. Some made by techniques which are difficult, and mostly we ask how this could be done.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to find the solution to the problem outlined, which is to create an alternative design for corporate identity of ASITA. ASITA is a non-profit organization to foster tours and travel agencies in Indonesia. The writer conducted interview to the ASITA Jakarta Chapter, which was appointed to represent ASITA in providing the data needed by the writer. The writer interviewed the advisor of the organization, which had once served as chairperson of ASITA. The result of the research is new corporate identity system of ASITA based on a concept that ASITA as an organization, serves as a compass that guides and assists in every direction. The writer found that corporate identity is an important element to define an organization as well as giving impact on its first impression. To create good corporate identity, several things such as elements of design, color, typography, etc need to be put into attention.

Abstract

Article clarified a research on cognitive response effect on cognition, attitude, and purpose. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of cognitive learning and a set of message processing system to persuade consumers. Researcher obtained the data and information from literature study, media, and direct observation to A & W Restaurants located at Rawamangun, Kelapa Gading Mall, and Bina Nusantara University. The result shows that human thinking process relates to ego involvement which includes culture and living habit is influential to the way people process the message. Finally, it is concluded that it is important to understand how consumers do message processing in order to make marketers able to determine the right marketing strategy to influence their consumers’ attitudes.
