Abstract

Bovine Factor V isolated by the method of Esnouf and Jobin (1967) has been further purified by affiniy chromotgraphy through prothrombin-sepharose. Factor V bound quantitative to the prothrombin-sepharose column. There was a 2-fold increase in the average specific activity (260.000 units/mg protein) of the Factor V recovered. Recovery of total Factor V activity and total protein was about 95% and 90% respectively.

Abstract

The gas chromotographic analysis of metal-containing compounds has been a small but reasonably active field for about 25 yeras. Analyses cover such as organometalics, metal complexes, and compounds such as hydrides and halides. Reviews of the fiels may be seen in the books by Moshier and Sievers (1), Guichon and Pommier (2) and Crompton (3), as well as the papers by Uden and Henderson (4) abd Rodrigues-Vasquez (5).

Abstract

The cardiac glycosides found in the seed kernels of Thevetia peruviana grown in Malaysia was investigated. Thevetin, a triglycoside, was separated into thevetin A and thevetin B by DCCC while the monoglycoasides obtained after incubation of the seeds were identified as nerlifolin, neriifolin monoacetate, and peruvoside.

Abstract

Thirteen fungi were isolated from Leucaena seeds from different places in the philipines. These were; Fusarium moniliforme, F. solani, F. semitecctum, Botryodiplodia theobromae, Cephalosporium sp., Phoma sp., Phoma sp., Cladosporiumsp., Chaetomium sp., Chaetomiun sp., Penicilium sp. and Aspergilus flavus. C. graminiculo completely inhibits the germination of seeds once it has colonized the seeds.

Abstract

The good antibacterial and aromatic supplements produced in Japan for preservation of milks at storage was investigated. Nineteen sweet and herb materials were made juices as supplements to preserve the milks. Bacterial counts, pH, protease activities and lipase activities of supplemented milks, and antibacterial activities of supplements were detected by total plate counts, glass electrode pH meter, azocasein, modified Dole extraction and turbidity methods. Eleven of nineteen milks added 10% of honey, garlic, ginger, horseradish, “sansho”, “yuzu”, green perilla, “nira”, green tea, bamboo leaf and “yomogi” were selected as good supplemented milks based on pH of these milks closed to pH of milks, the lower bacterial counts, protease activities and lipase activities of these milks than that without supplements, at 5 days before up to 10 days after use by date (P<0.05), consumed materials and antibacterial activities of these supplements in inhibiting Pseudomonas fluorescens P. 33 in the nutrient media.

Abstract

Aromatic plants produce by vapour distillation or other processes essential oils which are products with high commercial value used in the natural product industries such flavour and fragrance, perfumes and cosmetics industries as well as pharmaceutical industry. The aim of this study was to characterise some aromatic plants from Vietnam through the chemical composition of their essential oils. We got interested in essential oils which contained a main component with high to ultra high content, susceptible to find an industrial use. For this study, a dozen of plants have been selected. The composition of their essential oils will be compared with those of the same plants, reported in the literature, from Vietnamese origin or from other countries.

Abstract

The ferrite (a Fe3O4 – gFe2O3 mixed solution) fine particles, ~8 nm in size were synthesized from an aqueous solution. Trypsin, a proteolytic enzyme or a protein, was immobilized onto the surfaces of those particles during the synthesis process. The process was performed in the open air at a temperature as low as 4°C and on near-neutral condition of pH = 9, which is compatible with most of the bioactive molecules as well as trypsin. Therefore this technique is advantageous for preparing magnetite particles having biomolecules immobilized on their surfaces, which will be used for biomedical applications utilizing magnetic separation technique.

Abstract

A survey has been undertaken to look into the causes of tractor breakdowns on field operations and the main constraints associated with repair and maintenance, and to recommend a solution to the problems in Riau Province. The owners of sixty-two small tractors were interviewed, from three regencies chosen of the Province in 2003.  As a result, the working capacity of the tractors was relatively high and the average annual use was relatively low compared to the national average.  Most tractor operators did not have sufficient skill to operate tractors.  The tractor breakdowns resulted from operators’ mistakes, fuel and oil defilement, rough field conditions, poor maintenance, intense use, and factory design.  Inadequate repair shops, a lack of spare parts, and a shortage of mechanics in the local vicinity were the main factors curbing tractor repair. It was also found that inadequate finances led many farmers to ignore tractor maintenance. These suggest that tractor operators should be well trained and tractor-supporting facilities should be provided in rural areas. A mechanical extension officer and credit options should be made available for farmers.

Abstract

The importance of the electric power quality (PQ) demands new methodologies and measurement tools in the power industry for the analysis and measurement of the basic electric magnitudes necessary. This paper presents a new measurement procedure based on neural networks for the estimation of harmonic amplitudes of current/voltage and respective harmonic powers. The measurement scheme is built with two neural network modules. The first module is an adaptive linear neuron (ADALINE) that is the kernel part of estimation of complex harmonic coefficients of the current/voltage. The second module is feedforward neural network that obtains the harmonic active/reactive powers. In order to perform digital simulation the Feedforward and Adaline neural network tools were developed in LabVIEW. This measurement algorithm was tested for the practical cases and found to be robust, computationally fast and efficient.
