Abstract

In this paper, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are used to study the correlations between solar irradiance and solar photovoltaic (PV) output power which can be used for the development of a real-time prediction model to predict the next day produced power. Solar irradiance records were measured by ASU weather station located on the campus of Applied Science Private University (ASU), Amman, Jordan and the solar PV power outputs were extracted from the installed 264KWp power plant at the university. Intensive training experiments were carried out on 19249 records of data to find the optimum NN configurations and the testing results show excellent overall performance in the prediction of next 24 hours output power in KW reaching a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) value of 0.0721. This research shows that machine learning algorithms hold some promise for the prediction of power production based on various weather conditions and measures which help in the management of energy flows and the optimisation of integrating PV plants into power systems.

Abstract

Distributed power system (DPS) distributes power amongst processing units such as power electronics converters with DC system. Due to the increasing usage of power converters in DPS system, the system becomes unstable and the converter tends to draw constant power needed by the load of the system. Constant power load (CPL) characteristic has negative input impedance that could produce instability problems in the DC bus system. Passive damping network which consists of series RC damping circuit was connected in parallel to the DC bus system with the purpose to reduce the instability. The passive damper was designed, simulated with MATLAB/Simulink and verified experimentally with different values of CPL power levels and input voltage changes. The obtained simulation results show that simple DC system with constant power load was successfully stabilized by the installation of the passive damping network. The experimental set up was also conducted to validate of the proposed technique, and the obtained results were in excellent agreement with the theoretical parts of the project.

Abstract

This paper proposes three kinds of single stage RF front-end, called quadrature LMVs (QLMVs), by merging LNA, single-balanced mixer, and quadrature voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) exploiting a series LC (SLC) network. The low intermediate frequency (IF) or baseband signal near dc can be directly sensed at the drain nodes of the VCO switching transistors by adding a simple resistor-capacitor (RC) low-pass filter (LPF). Using a 65 nm CMOS technology, the proposed QLMVs are designed. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz band, the proposed QLMVs achieve the phase noise below ‒107 dB/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. The simulated voltage conversion gain is larger than 30 dB. The double-side band (DSB) noise figure (NF) of the proposed QLMVs is below 10 dB. The QLMVs consume less than 0.51 mW dc power from a 1-V supply.

Abstract

The level of urbanization which may impact on urban problems could be resolved through city development enabled and supported by the advanced ICT to build the city smart. To develop the city smart, the readiness of smart cities enablers should be assessed. The study was conducted based on pilot study through a survey on the smart city readiness. The analysis of smart city readiness in Yogyakarta showed that the evaluation of smart city projects implemented partially; only operational and asset optimization, and access to comprehensive device management implemented over 50%. Smart city readiness not only be measured by technological aspect but also need to be measured as non-technological aspects. Thus, measurement of readiness smart city can be more comprehensive.

Abstract

This paper introduces a new optimization method to determine the optimal allocation of Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) in the distribution systems. UPQC is a versatile Custom Power Device (CPD) to solve problems related to voltage and current by the series and shunt compensator in the distribution systems. The task of UPQC highlighted in this paper is the required load reactive power is provided by both the series and shunt compensators. The UPQC’s steady state compensation capability has given a solution for providing reactive power compensation in large distribution systems. The optimization method adopted is Moth Flame Optimization (MFO). The best location and series compensator voltage are determined using MFO. The voltage injected by the series compensator and reactive power injected by the shunt compensator is incorporated in the load flow method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated with standard distribution systems.

Abstract

With the proliferation of cloud computing technologies, smartphone users are able to use a variety of cloud computing-based mobile services such as games, education, entertainment, and social networking. Despite the popularity of such a mobile cloud computing, the complicated multi-tier system configuration of the mobile application must be one of the major impediments to develop mobile cloud applications. This paper presents development processes and procedures for developing mobile cloud applications by effectively applying Unified Modeling Language (UML), a representative object-oriented modeling language. The paper is intended to enhance the development productivity of the mobile cloud application and to improve the effectiveness of communication between software developers. In addition, we used the Android mobile platform and Amazon Web Service for cloud computing in order to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach to systematically apply the UML profiles and diagrams for cloud-based mobile applications.

Abstract

Intelligent control included ANFIS and type-2 fuzzy (T2FLS) controllers grown-up rapidly and these controllers are applied successfully in power system control. Meanwhile, small signal stability problem appear in a large-scale power system (LSPS) due to load fluctuation. If this problem persists, and can not be solved, it will develop blackout on the LSPS. How to improve the LSPS stability due to load fluctuation is done in this research by coordinating of PSS based on ANFIS and T2FLS. The ANFIS parameters are obtained automatically by training process. Meanwhile, the T2FLS parameters are determined based on the knowledge that obtained from the ANFIS parameters. Input membership function (MF) of the ANFIS is 5 Gaussian MFs. On the other hand, input MF of the T2FLS is 3 Gaussian MFs. Results show that the T2FLS-PSS is able to maintain the stability by decreasing peak overshoot for rotor speed and angle. The T2FLS-PSS makes the settling time is shorter for rotor speed and angle on local mode oscillation as well as on inter-area oscillation than conventional/ ANFIS-PSS. Also, the T2FLS-PSS gives better performance than the other PSS when tested on single disturbance and multiple disturbances.

Abstract

In analog filter design, discrete components values such as resistors (R) and capacitors (C) are selected from the series following constant values chosen. Exhaustive search on all possible combinations for an optimized design is not feasible. In this paper, we present an application of the Ant Colony Optimization technique (ACO) in order to selected optimal values of resistors and capacitors from different manufactured series to satisfy the filter design criteria. Three variants of the Ant Colony Optimization are applied, namely, the AS (Ant System), the MMAS (Min-Max AS) and the ACS (Ant Colony System), for the optimal sizing of the Low-Pass State Variable Filter. SPICE simulations are used to validate the obtained results/performances which are compared with already published works.

Abstract

Now a day‟s, Photo Voltaic (PV) power generation rapidly increasing. This power generation highly depending on the temperature and irradiation. When this power interface with grid through the voltage source inverter with PI controller. Its gains should be updated due to the parametric changes for the better performance. In This Work Fuzzy Controller updates the gains of the proportional integral (PI)s Controller under variable parametric conditions. the gaines of the PI Controller are updated based on the error current and change in error current through the fuzzy controller. The error current in direct and quadrature frame are the Inputs to the PI controller. The PI Controller generates the reference voltage to the pulse width modulation technique. Here reference voltage is compared with the carrier signal to generate the pulses to the 3-Ph Inverter connected to the grid. This controller has given well dynamic response with less steady state error and also given The less THD of the grid current compared to the PI and Fuzzy controller.It Is implemented and verified in MATLAB Simulink.

Abstract

An efficient Viterbi decoder is introduced in this paper; it is called Viterbi decoder with window system. The simulation results, over Gaussian channels, are performed from rate 1/2, 1/3 and 2/3 joined to TCM encoder with memory in order of 2, 3. These results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the classical Viterbi by a gain of 1 dB. On the other hand, we propose a function called RSCPOLY2TRELLIS, for recursive systematic convolutional (RSC) encoder which creates the trellis structure of a recursive systematic convolutional encoder from the matrix “H”. Moreover, we present a comparison between the decoding algorithms of the TCM encoder like Viterbi soft and hard, and the variants of the MAP decoder known as BCJR or forward-backward algorithm which is very performant in decoding TCM, but depends on the size of the code, the memory, and the CPU requirements of the application.
