Abstract

Mobile Social Networks and its related applications have made a very great impact in the society. Many new technologies related to mobile social networking are booming rapidly now-a-days and yet to boom. One such upcoming technology is Opportunistic Mobile Social Networking. This technology allows mobile users to communicate and exchange data with each other without the use of Internet. This paper is about Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks, its architecture, issues and some future research directions. The architecture and issues of Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks are compared with that of traditional Mobile Social Networks. The main contribution of this paper is regarding privacy and security issues in Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks. Finally, some future research directions in Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks have been elaborated regarding the data's privacy and security.

Abstract

In this paper the feasibility of energy saving by implementing flow regulation at constant load in feedwater pumps in a sugar industry is studied. As regulation strategy, the use of a variable speed drive in the hydraulic system is proposed. For the project evaluation, the Net Present Value and Payback Period techniques are used. Among the variables considered are the price of energy, the equipment useful life, financial data and those related to environmental impact. As a result, it was found that if only a commercial approach is considered, the energy saving strategy is profitable but not attractive, because investment is recovered in a period close to the useful life of technology. However, if a government focus that encourages the implementation of these energies saving strategies is considered, the investment of the project recovers in a short time.

Abstract

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been applied to solve optimization problems in various fields, such as Association Rule Mining (ARM) of numerical problems. However, PSO often becomes trapped in local optima. Consequently, the results do not represent the overall optimum solutions. To address this limitation, this study aims to combine PSO with the Cauchy distribution (PARCD), which is expected to increase the global optimal value of the expanded search space. Furthermore, this study uses multiple objective functions, i.e., support, confidence, comprehensibility, interestingness and amplitude. In addition, the proposed method was evaluated using benchmark datasets, such as the Quake, Basket ball, Body fat, Pollution, and Bolt datasets. Evaluation results were compared to the results obtained by previous studies. The results indicate that the overall values of the objective functions obtained using the proposed PARCD approach are satisfactory.

Abstract

Among all the available visualization tools, the scatterplot has been deeply analyzed through the years and many researchers investigated how to improve this tool to face new challenges. The scatterplot visualization diagram is considered one of the most functional among the variety of data visual representations, due to its relative simplicity compared to other multivariable visualization techniques. Even so, one of the most significant and unsolved challenge in data visualization consists in effectively displaying datasets with many attributes or dimensions, such as multidimensional or multivariate ones. The focus of this research is to compare the single view and the multiple views visualization paradigms for displaying multivariable dataset using scatterplots. A multivariable scatterplot has been developed as a web application to provide the single view tool, whereas for the multiple views visualization, the ScatterDice web app has been slightly modified and adopted as a traditional, yet interactive, scatterplot matrix. Finally, a taxonomy of tasks for visualization tools has been chosen to define the use case and the tests to compare the two paradigms.

Abstract

Power quality issues are an important and growing problem in microgrid. There are two reasons; the more active consumer is participating in the power sector, the use of renewable energy which having a great impact on voltage variation. This paper discusses power quality disturbance and especially harmonic distortion issues in microgrid, and suggests a solution to maintain the operation of the distribution system within power quality standard. To protect sensitive loads from harmonics produced by the grid and by renewable energy sources, passive harmonic filter has been proposed in this paper. The electrical system of a nuclear research reactor as sensitive loads is designed by using Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) software. The results show these technical issues are presented with their influence on electrical voltage and harmonic specter.

Abstract

BCH codes represent an important class of cyclic error-correcting codes; their minimum distances are known only for some cases and remains an open NP-Hard problem in coding theory especially for large lengths. This paper presents an efficient scheme ZSSMP (Zimmermann Special Stabilizer Multiplier Permutation) to find the true value of the minimum distance for many large BCH codes. The proposed method consists in searching a codeword having the minimum weight by Zimmermann algorithm in the sub codes fixed by special stabilizer multiplier permutations. These few sub codes had very small dimensions compared to the dimension of the considered code itself and therefore the search of a codeword of global minimum weight is simplified in terms of run time complexity.  ZSSMP is validated on all BCH codes of length 255 for which it gives the exact value of the minimum distance. For BCH codes of length 511, the proposed technique passes considerably the famous known powerful scheme of Canteaut and Chabaud used to attack the public-key cryptosystems based on codes. ZSSMP is very rapid and allows catching the smallest weight codewords in few seconds. By exploiting the efficiency and the quickness of ZSSMP, the true minimum distances and consequently the error correcting capability of all the set of 165 BCH codes of length up to 1023 are determined except the two cases of the BCH(511,148) and BCH(511,259) codes. The comparison of ZSSMP with other powerful methods proves its quality for attacking the hardness of minimum weight search problem at least for the codes studied in this paper.

Abstract

Due to the ever-increasing power demand, the need of electricity and eco-friendly power in every nook and corner of the world, many reaserch topics have been devoted to deal with this problematic. This paper is taking part of the proposed solutions with the presentation of a novel 5.8 GHz rectenna system for wireless power transmission applications. In one hand, a miniaturized 5.8 GHz circular polarized patch antenna has been designed and simulated by using the Advanced Design System (ADS). In the other hand, a rectifier structure has been investigated and optimized by the use of the Harmonic Balance method available in ADS. The circuit is based on 5 HSMS2820 Schottky diodes implemented in a voltage multiplier topology and a load resistance of 1 KOhm. Both of the structures have been validated by simulation and experimental results and good agreement has been concluded.

Abstract

A web service is an autonomous software that exposes a set of features on the Internet, it is developed and published by providers and accessed by customers who discover it, select it, invoke and use it. Several research policies have been implemented such as searching through keywords, searching according to semantics and searching by estimating the similarity. A customer is looking for a service for the operations he/she carries out, hence the interest of guiding the search for services towards a search for operations: finding the desired operations amounts to finding the services. For this, groupings of similar operations would make it possible to obtain all the services that can meet the desired functionalities. The customer can then select, in this set the service or services according to its non-functional criteria. The paper presents a study of the similarity between operations. The proposed approach is validated through an experimental study conducted on web services belonging to various domains.

Abstract

In this paper, circular-shaped microstrip antenna was simulated, fabricated, and measured accordingly. As the novelty, to enhance bandwidth and reduce antenna size, beleved half-cut microstrip structure is proposed. Further, this proposed antenna structure will be applied to multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna 2´2. Therefore, this research was investigated conventional circular shape antenna (CCSA), circular shaped beleved antenna (CSBA), and MIMO circular shaped beleved antenna (MIMO-CBSA) as Model 1, Model 2, and Model 3, respectively. An FR4 substrate with er= 4.4, thickness h=1.6 mm, and tan d=0.0265 was used. The simulation has been conducted using Advanced Design System (ADS). The antenna CCSA/CSBA/ MIMO-CBSA achieve 1.831GHz/2.265 GHz/2.256 GHz, -15.13dB/-17.37dB/-17.25 dB, 1.42/1.31/1.33, and 1.474/2.332/2.322 for center frequency, reflection coefficient, VSWR, and bandwidth, respectively. This antenna has a size 63x90 mm and 51.5x90 mm for CCSA (Model 1) and CSBA (Model 2), respectively. After the structure of MIMO 2´2 was applied, the size of antenna MIMO-CBSA (Model 3) became 180 mm x 180 mm with a mutual coupling (S21)=-26.18 dB and mutual coupling (S31)=-26.41 dB. The result showed that proposed antenna CSBA (Model 2) has wider-bandwidth of 58,2% and smaller-size of 18.2%. Furthermore, after CSBA (Model 2) structure was applied to MIMO 2´2 (Model 3) and the MIMO antenna obtain good mutual coupling (<-15dB). Moreover, the measured results are good agreement with the simulated results. In conclusion, all of these advantages make it particularly valuable in multistandard antenna applications design such as GSM950, WCDMA1800, LTE2300, and WLAN2400.

Abstract

The permanent magnet linear motors are widely used in various industrial applications due to its advantages in comparisons with rotary motors such as mechanical durability and directly creating linear motions without gears or belts. The main difficulties of its control design are that the control performances include the tracking of position and velocity as well as guarantee limitations of the voltage control and its variation. In this work, a cascade control strategy including an inner and an outer loop is applied to synchronous linear motor. Particularly, an offline MPC controller based on MPP method and Laguerre model was proposed for inner loop and the outer controller was designed with the aid of nonlinear damping method. The numerical simulation was implemented to validate performance of the proposed controller under voltage input constraints.
