Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present a study of the efficiency of the electrical part of a wind generation system. Two back-to-back PWM voltage-fed inverters connected between the stator and the rotor are used to allow bidirectional power flow. The second inverter grid side, has a role of a power active filter, to eliminate the harmonic generated by the non linear load, in the same time gives an active and reactive power needed by the rotor of DFIG. The harmonics of switching frequency in the current stator, pose a major problem in the moment where commutations in the diode bridge, to solve this problem, we introduce a small-sized passive LC filter for the purpose of eliminating high-frequency shaft voltage and grid current from a DFIG driven by a voltage-source pulse width-modulation rotor inverter controlled with SVM. The control theory is discussed, and the controller implementation is described. Design criteria are also given. The results of simulation tests show excellent static and dynamic performances.

Abstract

A good insulator for high voltage cable has low dielectric loss, reasonable flexibility and thermo-mechanically stable. However, prolonged application of electrical stresses on the cable will degraded the cable; physically and morphologically. Electrical degradation in high voltage cable can be detected using electroluminescence (EL) method. Electroluminescence is a phenomenon that occurs when the atoms of a material are being excited due to the application of and external high electrical stresses. There are several external factors that affect the behaviour of electroluminescence emission such as, applied voltage, applied frequency, ageing of material and types of materials. . In this paper, the EL measurement is employed to determine the effect of applied frequency on virgin LDPE at fixed and varying applied voltage. It can be observed that EL emission increases as applied frequency increases with increasing voltage applied. However, interesting EL behaviour is observed when varying frequency is applied from 10 Hz to 100 Hz.

Abstract

Owing to the highly distributed nature of the cloud storage system, it is one of the challenging tasks to incorporate a higher degree of security towards the vulnerable data. Apart from various security concerns, data privacy is still one of the unsolved problems in this regards. The prime reason is that existing approaches of data privacy doesn't offer data integrity and secure data deduplication process at the same time, which is highly essential to ensure a higher degree of resistance against all form of dynamic threats over cloud and internet systems. Therefore, data integrity, as well as data deduplication is such associated phenomena which influence data privacy. Therefore, this manuscript discusses the explicit research contribution toward data integrity, data privacy, and data deduplication. The manuscript also contributes towards highlighting the potential open research issues followed by a discussion of the possible future direction of work towards addressing the existing problems.

Abstract

Today, global energy consumption is dominated by fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas. The intensive consumption of these energy sources gives rise to greenhouse gas emissions and therefore an increase in CO2 emissions. Photovoltaic energy has persistently been considered as a green and pollution-free renewable energy source to overcome greenhouse effect and energy crisis. This paper describes a new method of photovoltaic energy sharing in standalone micro-grids using photovoltaic panels. This approach is based on automatic electrical energy sharing depending on the state of charge (SOC) of the electrical storage unit using by each home and on the electrical power consumption of each home.The monitoring system is connected to each home in micro-grid, it manage each home’s energy use, and assigns more energy to a large energy-consuming home. This architecture contributes to reducing total energy lost.

Abstract

Cloud Computing is an evolving technology as it offers significant benefits like pay only for what you use, scale the resources according to the needs and less in-house staff and resources. These benefits have resulted in tremendous increase in the number of applications and services hosted in the cloud which inturn has resulted in increase in the number of cloud providers in the market. Cloud service providers have a lot of heterogeneity in the resources they use. They have their own servers, different cloud infrastructures, API’s and methods to access the cloud resources. Despite its benefits; lack of standards among service providers has caused a high level of vendor lock-in when a software developer tries to change its cloud provider. In this paper we give an overview on the ongoing and current trends in the area of cloud service portability and we also propose a new cloud portability platform. Our new platform is based on establishing feature models which offers the desired cloud portability. Our solution DSkyL uses feature models and domain model analysis to support development, customization and deployment of application components across multiple clouds. The main goal of our approach is to reduce the effort and time needed for porting applications across different clouds. This paper aims to give an overview on DSkyL.

Abstract

In a deregulated electricity market whenever congestion management problem occurs, the network collapse because of voltage instability. In this paper total real and reactive power loss deviation based sensitivity indexes (PLDS and QLDS) with rank co-relation concept, has been proposed for the optimal location and operating range of TCSC device. With this placement  the power flow in over loaded overhead lines has been reduced and that results in an increased loadability of the power system and also improves the voltage stability and security and also solves the congestion management problem. So ultimately, a more energy efficient transmission system is possible. The case studies were conducted on IEEE 14 bus test system. The ensue corroborate the intended approach for social welfare maximization inreal time.

Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of programmable BPSK demodulator and bit synchronizer. The demodulator is based on the Costas loop design whereas the bit synchronizer is based on Gardner timing error detector. The advantage of this design is that it offers programmability using multi-rate processing and does not rely on computation of filter coefficients, NCO angle input for each specific data rate and thus avoids computational complexities. The algorithm and its application were verified on Matlab-Simulink and was implemented on ALTERA platform. A 32 kHz BPSK demodulator–bit synchronizer pair catering for data rates from 1 kbps to 8 kbps was implemented.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i3.5561

Abstract

Ensuring the best quality of smart multimedia services becomes an essential goal for modern enterprises so there is always a need for effective IP mobility smart management schemes in order to fulfill the following two main functions: (I) interconnecting the moving terminals around the extended indoor smart services. In addition, (II) providing session continuity for instant data transfer in real-time and multimedia applications with negligible latency, efficient bandwidth utilization, and improved reliability. In this context, it found out that the Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) over LTE-A network that offers many advanced services for large numbers of users with higher bandwidths, better spectrum efficiency, and lower latency. In GMPLS, there is an elimination of the routing searches and choice of routing protocols on every core LTE-A router also it provides the architecture simplicity and increases the scalability. A comparative assessment of three types of IPv6 mobility management schemes over the LTE-A provided by using various types of multimedia. By using OPNET Simulator 17.5, In accordance with these schemes, it was proven that the IPv6-GMPLS scheme is the best choice for the system's operation, in comparison to the IPv6-MPLS and Mobile IPv6 for all multimedia offerings and on the overall network performance.

Abstract

This paper presents soil characterization and classification using computer vision & sensor network approach. Gravity Analog Soil Moisture Sensor with arduino-uno and image processing is considered for classification and characterization of soils. For the data sets, Amhara regions and Addis Ababa city of Ethiopia are considered for this study. In this research paper the total of 6 group of soil and each having 90 images are used. That is, form these 540 images were captured. Once the dataset is collected, pre-processing and noise filtering steps are performed to achieve the goal of the study through MATLAB, 2013. Classification and characterization is performed through BPNN (Back-propagation neural network), the neural network consists of 7 inputs feature vectors and 6 neurons in its output layer to classify soils. 89.7% accuracy is achieved when back-propagation neural network (BPNN) is used.

Abstract

Composite power system reliability involves assessing the adequacy of generation and transmission system to meet the demand at major system load points. Contingency selection was being the most tedious step in reliability evaluation of large electric systems. Contingency in power system might be a possible event in future which was not predicted with certainty in earlier research. Therefore, uncertainty may be inevitable in power system operation. Deterministic indices may not guarantee the randomness in reliability assessment. In order to account for volatility in contingencies, a new performance index proposed in the current research. Proposed method assimilates the uncertainty in computational procedure. Reliability test systems like Roy Billinton Test System-6 bus system and IEEE-24 bus reliability test systems were used to test the effectiveness of a proposed method.
