Contemporary people have highly insufficient time and means of relieving their stress. Provision of a program that can solve such stress in daily life would make one’s life substantially more enjoyable. In this thesis, Face Song Player, which is a system that recognizes the facial expression of an individual and plays music that is appropriate for such person, is presented. It studies information on the facial contour lines and extracts an average, and acquires the facial shape information. MUCT DB was used as the DB for learning. For the recognition of facial expression, an algorithm was designed by using the differences in the characteristics of each of the expressions on the basis of expressionless images. Facial expression is extracted by acquiring information on the eyes, eyebrows, eyelids, mouth, lips and nasal cheeks for expressions of happiness, surprise and sorrow as well as absence of expression. There is an advantage of being able to obtain a substantial effect with very low cost through this system.

Heart diseases had been molded as potential threats to human lives, especially to elderly people in recent days due to the dynamically varying food habits among the people. However, these diseases could be easily caught by proper analysis of Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals acquired from individuals. This paper proposes a better method to detect and classify the arrhythmia using 15 features which include 4 R-R interval features, 3 statistical and 6 chaotic features estimated from ECG signals. Additionally, Entropy and Energy features had been gained after converting one dimensional ECG signals to two dimensional data and applied Tetrolet transforms on that. Total numbers of 15 features had been utilized to classify the heart beats from the benchmark MIT-Arrhythmia database using Support Vector Machines (SVM). The classification performance was analyzed under various kernel functions and different Tetrolet decomposition levels. It is found that Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel could perform better than linear and polynomial kernels. This research attempt yielded an accuracy of 99.35 % against the existing works. Moreover, addition of two more features had introduced a negligible overhead of time. Hence, this method is better suitable to detect and classify the Arrhythmia in both online and offline.

This paper illustrates the simulation of 3-phase matrix converter using Space Vector Modulation (SVM). Variable AC output voltage engendered using matrix converter with bidirectional power switches controlled by appropriate switching pulse. The conventional PWM converter engenders switching common mode voltage across the load system terminals, which cause to common mode current and its leads to bearing failure in load drive. These problems can be rectified using SVM and which minimize the effect on the harmonic fluctuation in AC output voltage and stress on the power switch is reduced using bidirectional switch for proposed 3-phase matrix converter. The simulation results have been presented to validate the proposed system using matlab / simulink.

Number of active researchers and experts, are engaged to develop and implement new mechanism and features in time varying database management system (TVDBMS), to respond to the recommendation of modern business environment..Time-varying data management has been much taken into consideration with either the attribute or tuple time stamping schema. Our main approach here is to try to offer a better solution to all mentioned limitations of existing works in order to provide the non-procedural data definitions, queries of temporal data as complete as possible technical conversion that allow to easily realize and share all conceptual details of the UML class specifications, from conception and design point of view. This paper contributes to represent a logical design schema by UML class diagrams, which are handled by stereotypes to express a temporal object relational database with attribute timestamping.

Demand of data usage and increase of subscribers in Long Term Evolution (LTE) has urged Third Group Partnership Project (3GPP) to find a solution of traffic data growth. In Release 12, the 3GPP introduced Wi-Fi as an alternative to ease the heavy traffic at the LTE base station in dense areas. In contrary with the traffic offloading, Wi-Fi users suffer the worst network degradation because of co-channel interference at frequency 2.4GHz due to collided with LTE band 40. Interference management in LTE-Wi-Fi integrated network is crucial as it affect user’s experiences and services. In this paper, we enhanced a method which is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) to improve user’s performance in LTE-Wi-Fi network. The DSSS has advantages such as more robust and ability to expand to higher data rates. We introduce a new coefficient called as chip rate coefficient (α) to investigate Signal-to-Interference-Noise Ratio (SINR) expression for User Equipments (UEs) in LTE-Wi-Fi networks. The simulation results discovered that proposed α with value of 0.2 gave the optimum improvement of SINR for LTE and Wi-Fi users. By modifying the SINR expression of the standard DSSS, SINR values at MUE and WUE show better improvement with 4.69% and 17.94%, respectively.

Radiology field is very important in today's world, especially in the field of medicine including dentistry. Radiology equipment that is popular in dentistry is the panoramic machine. A panoramic image facilitate the dentist in making a diagnosis of the abnormality in the mouth and teeth. But unfortunately, for developing countries like Indonesia, panoramic machine available are low resolution which have an effect on the resulting image also has low quality. This research aims to improve the quality of the panoramic image to have a better quality. We use point processing method with emphasis on contrast stretching method. We chose this method because it is quite simple but has a high performance. Based on the second opinion from the hospital, the performance is 83.9%, therefore this method is promising to be implemented on the improvement of dental radiology images.

One of the most important methods proposed for reduction of consumed energy in facility and ventilation systems in a building is application of ground source heat pumps (GSHPs). With regard to the enhanced use of such pumps in providing heat and cold demands in homes, commercial centers, institutions and industrial buildings analysis of their performance as well as their benefits and deficiencies compared to common ventilation systems have gained interest of many researchers. Such systems apply ground as a thermal well in summer and as a heat source in winter. They can be used in various climatic conditions in different regions. They have no combustion and they only transfer heat. In the present article first, performance conditions of ground source heat pumps (in two modes of heating and cooling) are analyzed. Then in order to assess the performance of proposed model economically, its application in Iran will be studied. Finally after introducing the proposed plan and by concluding the overall results the return time for investment will be estimated. The obtained results from graph analysis would indicate the superiority of proposed model over other plans and also it provides an appropriate general context for the researchers for a better understanding and examining this system in comparison to other systems.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i4.1463

A balance-unbalance (balun) transformer is commonly used to connect the balance 100 Ohm twisted pair cable to the unbalance 50 Ohm network analyzer ports, but due to the limitations of the core (i.e. ferrite) inside the balun, the balun can only effectively operates at a certain band of frequencies. This limitation can be eliminated by using a 4-port vector network analyzer (VNA) which is done by connecting the VNA’s ports to each conductor end. The extracted S-parameters will then be transformed to a 2-port S-parameters in differential mode at both ports. To validate the measurement technique, S-parameter measurement by using the 4-Port Network Analyzer without any balun will be compared to the measurement which used the 2-Port Network Analyzer with the balun transformers. Two twisted pair cable distances are selected as reference which are 500, and 1000 meters with nominal copper diameter of 0.5mm. Based on the measurement results, the 4-ports measurement shows good correlation with the 2-ports measurement especially at 500m distance. This shows that the 4-ports measurement setup is suitable to be used to measure twisted pair copper cable and possible to measure at a higher frequency band such as up to 500 MHz but at a shorter twisted pair cable distance.

The abundance of solar energy in Akure, South-West Nigeria and its feasibility as an alternative energy source has been proven. However, cheap, Government subsidized but unreliable grid electricity and high cost of solar equipment are considered the major hindrances to deployment of solar energy for improved power supply and environmental sustainability. An earlier work pointed out realistic pricing of electricity, reduced cost of solar equipment and reduction in solar cell degradation factor as major factors capable of speeding up parity hence, motivating solar energy consumption. It showed that parity is attainable within 14 years. Documented significant improvements in these factors in recent times are the motivations for this review. This review cost-comparatively re-assesses both sources of energy under the prevailing National electricity policy and market realities using simple mathematical and graphical modeling techniques. This is with a view to determining a new timing for parity of solar energy with grid supply. Results showed that solar PV-grid energy cost parity is now attainable within 6 years in the study region. It was also observed that sustained improvement in grid energy unit cost and reduction in cost of solar equipment and accessories may accelerate solar-grid energy parity to less than three years.
