Abstract

The objective of this work was to develop a variety of control systems for a Stop-Rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in hover flight. The Stop-Rotor UAV has capabilities of Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) like a helicopter and can convert from a helicopter mode to an airplane mode in mid-flight. Thus, this UAV can hover as a helicopter and achieve high mission range of an airplane. The stop-rotor concept implies that in mid-flight the thrust generating helicopter rotor stops and rotates the blades into airplane wings. The thrust in airplane mode is then provided by a pusher propeller. The aircraft configuration presents unique challenges in flight dynamics, modeling and control. In this paper a mathematical model is derived, and then the model is simulated with non-zero initial conditions. Various control systems are then implemented. The control techniques utilized are a linear control, optimal linear control and a nonlinear control with the objective of stabilizing the UAV in hover flight. Abstract

This paper presents an approach for predicting daily network traffic using artificial neural networks (ANN), namely radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) method. The data is gained from 21-24 June 2013 (192 samples series data) in ICT Unit of Mulawarman University, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The results of measurement are using statistical analysis, e.g. sum of square error (SSE), mean of square error (MSE), mean of absolute percentage error (MAPE), and mean of absolute deviation (MAD). The results show that values are the same, with different goals that have been set are 0.001, 0.002, and 0.003, and spread 200. The smallest MSE value indicates a good method for accuracy. Therefore, the RBFNN model illustrates the proposed best model to predict daily network traffic.

Abstract

The article considers some issues related to replacement of electromechanical relays used for protection of power facilities with microprocessor relays. One of the urgent problems connected with implementation of microprocessor overcurrent protections is how to use current transducers other than usual current transformers and in particular Rogowski coils that become more and more widespread. In the article are compared twelve methods of synthesis of a digital filter basing on the analog prototype – second-order integrating filter. The bilinear filter and Boxer-Thaler filters are analyzed in respect to their use in microprocessor relays. Basing on the research results a technique for selection of parameters of digital integrating filters for microprocessor relays is proposed. Simulation results show that Boxer-Thaler and bilinear filters have better accuracy during transient current measurements than the analog filter. The study allows concluding that in many cases the digital second-order bilinear filter is the best choice for use in microprocessor relays.

Abstract

Elearning education has developed a crucial factor in the educational organization. With the situation of declining student size, elearning has to offer more cross-departmental and multi-disciplinary courses for individual needs to go over “one-size-fits-all” traditional model. Elearning data analytics which has not been professionally classified cannot produce reliable results. Classifications for elearning data help comfort the accuracy of outcomes and reducible pre-processing time. This research proposes a practical model for individual learning and personality. The proposed model based on data from the LMS classifies both the student preferences and personalities. The model helps design future curricula to suit student personalities, which intangibly assists them to be efficient in the study practice. Performance of the proposed classification is evaluated by using MOA software. It outperforms and improves the accuracy of complex elearning datasets. Besides, the results indicate an achievement in the students' study time after applying the association rule model on the elearning.

Abstract

This paper presents a comparative study between genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization methods to determine the optimal proportional–integral (PI) controller parameters for a wind farm management algorithm. This study primarily aims to develop a rapid and stable system by tuning the PI controller, thus providing excellent monitoring for a wind farm system. The wind farm management system supervises the active and reactive power of the wind farm by sending references to each wind generator. This management system ensures that all wind generators achieve their required references. Furthermore, the entire management is included in the normal controlling power set points of the wind farm as designed by a central control system. The performance management of this study is tested through MATLAB/Simulink simulation results for the wind farm based on three doublyfed induction generators

Abstract

The climate change and global warning have been appeared as an emerging issue in recent decades. In which, the drought problem has been influenced on economics and life condition in Vietnam. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we have designed and deployed a long range and energy efficient drought monitoring based on IoT (Internet of Things) for real time applications. After being tested in the real condition, the proposed system has proved its high dependability and effectiveness. The system is promising to become a potential candidate to solve the drought problem in Vietnam.

Abstract

In the several phases of activity in developing a software system, there is design phase. This phase has a purpose to determine and ensure that a software requirement can be realized in accordance with customer needs. The quality of design must be a guarantee at this phase. One of an indicator of quality design is cohesion. Cohesion is the level of relatedness between elements in one component. A Higher value of cohesion can indicate that a component are more modular, has own resources, and less dependent on another component. More independent, components are easy to maintenance. There are many metrics to count how many values of cohesion in a component. One of metric is The Distance Design-Based Direct Class Cohesion (D3C2). But, many practitioners are unable to apply them. Because there is no threshold that can categories the value of cohesion. This study aims to determine the threshold of cohesion metric based on the class diagram. The result showed that the threshold of D3C2 metric is 0.41. 0.41 is the value that has the highest level of agreement with the design expert.

Abstract

With the adoption of new technology and quality standards, the software development firms are still encountering the critical issues of risk modelling. With the changing dynamics of customer needs, potential competition has being mushrooming in the global IT markets to relay a new standard of software engineering which has higher capability of sustaining risk.  However, till date, it is still theoretical to large extent from research viewpoint. Hence, this paper presents a mathematical model called as 3LRM that is designed with the simple approach keeping in mind the real-time issues of risk factors in software engineering for ICT software development project. The study has also identified requirement volatility as one of the prominent source of risk and hence, the framework intends to identify a risk as well as mitigating the risk to a large extent. The paper is illustrated with some of the simple statistical approaches of random probability.

Abstract

Switching operations in a Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) generate very fast transient over voltages (VFTO) which are dangerous for the transformer and the system insulation because of their short rise time. Under special circumstances the overvoltages can arise close to the transformer Basic Insulation Level (BIL). The reduction of VFTO amplitudes is considered main challenges. Therefore, VFTO in the 220 kV Wadi-Hoff GIS is analyzed and the worst case for disconnector switching is predicted using EMTP/ATP in this paper. VFTO mitigation techniques are studied in this work. Furthermore, proposed techniques are presented for mitigating the VFTO. The proposed techniques can be used by the maintenance engineers, transformer designers, and GIS insulation manufactures. The results show that the proposed techniques highly reduce the VFTO in a simple manner.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i2.5186

Abstract

In order to identify the best control algorithm, the effects of modulation control algorithms on the energy characteristics of a two-level autonomous frequency converter inverter were studied. The research was carried out by the methods of mathematical and simulation modeling. The equa-tions of mathematical description were compiled taking into account a number of generally accepted assumptions. An equivalent circuit of a two-level autonomous inverter was created. Comparisons of pulse-width modulation algorithms with carrier signals of various shapes and frequencies were made. Three different forms of carrier signal were used: triangular, sawtooth with a falling edge and sawtooth with a leading edge. Studies were conducted at frequencies of 3,000, 6,000 and 9,000 Hz. Conclusions were made about the identity of the spectral composition of the front and rear edges of the sawtooth signal, it was also noted that with the triangular waveform, being the part of the har-monics, present in the sawtooth form is removed, so, the triangular shape provides the best result of the autonomous inverter. Also, by increasing in the carrier frequency, it was noted that pulse packets appear at different harmonic numbers, shift, and the amplitude and distortion factor decrease, that means, the best performance was obtained at the maximum frequency studied. In the study of the voltage at the output of the chokes at different frequencies of the carrier signal, it was noted that at a higher frequency, the ripple of the output voltage decreases. Throttles do not eliminate harmonics, but only reduce their amplitude. Based on the results, it was concluded that the algorithm with a triangular carrier signal and the maximum frequency provides the best harmonic composition of the output voltage of the frequency converter.
