Abstract

Partial discharge (PD) may lead to the degradation of insulating materials and affect the lifetime of high voltage equipment. This paper describes the effect of relative humidity on PD characteristic of epoxy/boron nitride (BN) nanocomposite under high voltage (HV) stress. In this work, CIGRE Method II was utilized as an electrode configuration. BN nanofiller was chosen because of its high insulating properties with high thermal conductivity. The PD characteristics such as PD charge magnitude, PD number or occurrence, and average of PD charge during certain of ageing time under HV stress against relative humidity were examined. The results revealed that PD number of humid samples is higher about 8~14% compared to the normal ones. It is considered due to the decrease of surface resistance of the humid samples. The PD charge magnitudes of humid samples are slightly higher compared to the normal ones. The epoxy/BN nanocomposite has lesser PD number and magnitude compared to the neat epoxy samples.

Abstract

The objective of the work reported in this paper is to improve a 4-bit softcore processor previously designed in Verilog language, keeping its compact size. This processor was thought to be used as academic and didactic tool for teaching as computers architecture subject as digital circuits subject in the technology faculty of the Universidad Distrital. The new features include arithmetic instruction with input carry, BCD operations enabling, rotating instructions, implementation of input and output register banks, increase of the number of general purpose registers of the data memory, and the reduction of the execution clock cycles per instruction. Additionally, the assembler software was enabled to support macro-instructions to make easy the comprehension of some composed functions. As result, a very compact softcore processor was obtained, by means of a Verilog description done in a single file. This implementation occupies only the 2% of the medium-size FPGA used for the application, reaching a maximum possible working clock frequency of 929 Mhz.

Abstract

Performance analysis and continuous process improvement efforts are often supported by the construction of process models representing the interactions of the partners in the supply chain. This study was conducted to determine the state of the art in the process mining field, specifically in the context of cross-organizational process. The Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method is used to review a collection of twenty-one papers that are classified according to the Artifact framework of Hevner, et al. and within the Process Mining framework of Van der Aalst. In the reviewed papers, the authors conducted a variety of techniques to establish the event log, which is then used to perform the process mining analysis. Eight of the reviewed papers focus on the definition of concepts or measures. Five of the papers describe models and other abstractions that are used as a theoretical basis for process mining in the context of supply chains. The majority twenty of papers describe some kind of informal method or formal algorithm to perform process mining analysis. Nine of the papers that propose a formal algorithm also present an accompanying software implementation. Eight papers discuss the data preparation challenges and twelve papers discuss process discovery techniques.

Abstract

Distributed generation (DG) technology is based on the renewable sources of energy. Now a day’s distributed generation plays an important role of power generation utilities to fulfill the increasing demand of power at the costumer’s site. A distributed generation is the small generation unit with capacity varying from kW (kilowatt) to few MW (megawatt). The main aim of this paper is to find the solution for optimal location of connecting DG and also the disturbances in the voltage fluctuations responds to imperfection of connecting DG. A test network of IEEE-30 bus system has been simulated using PSAT 2.1.7. The compensation methods have also been developed for filtering out the disturbances caused by the DG connection. The disturbance in the voltage profile is improved by minimizing the real and reactive power losses with the help of STATCOM. The proposed approach IEEE-30-bus system was tested and the result was discussed.

Abstract

Mineral oils are are derived from petroleum which is a non-renewable and non-sustainable source, and therefore there is a critical need to develop alternative insulation oils for use in transformers.  Ester oils offer a number of benefits over mineral oils such as good biodegradability, high cooling stability, good oxidation stability and excellent insulation performance. Nowadays, nanotechnology has become one of the most important research fields in both the academia and industry and it has been shown in previous studies that nanoscale materials are beneficial for transformers. In this regard, the objective of this study is to compare the AC breakdown voltage of palm fatty acid ester (PFAE) oils mixed with iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles. The PFAE-based nanofluids are prepared using two methods: (1) Method I (weight-based method whereby the concentration of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles is 0.01 g/l) and (2) Method II (volume-fraction method whereby the concentration of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles is 0.01, 0.02 and 0.03%). The AC breakdown voltage test is conducted on the PFAE-based nanofluids in accordance with the ASTM D1816 standard test method. Weibull statistical analysis is carried out to analyse the AC breakdown voltage of fresh PFAE oil and PFAE-based nanofluids. It is found that there is enhancement of the AC breakdown voltage for all PFAE-based nanofluids with the exception of with the exception of one sample prepared using Method II (0.01% Fe3O4 nanoparticles).

Abstract

In many Muslim countries there are many sounds that are fired at nearly the same time via loudspeakers. This sound is a call-to-prayer (Azan). Azan is fired from the so-called mosques in many countries where, theses mosques are still using its own timing to trigger such call and its own amplifier gain regardless of other mosques in the region. This results in an out of sync call-to-prayer firing and a very noisy and distracting mix of sounds in many places at the same region. In this paper, a unified call-to-prayer framework is proposed that sheds light on these issues and gives solution directions for the above mentioned issues in the currently used systems.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i3.5758

Abstract

Regular expressions are heavily used in the field of computer programming. They are known by their strength to search or replace parts of strings according to a given structure (mails, phone, numbers, etc.). Currently  regular expressions are only used to search for some patterns or to make some substitutions in strings. However, the need may be wider than that when it comes to order the results of a regular expression or to group them according to some criteria. Developers are always called to analyze the results of a regular expression by doing some restrictions such as (equal, not equal, between) or  some projections like (maximum, average, grouping by ..) or sorts. Unfortunately, to do these treatments, the developer must implement his own algorithms which cost him a remarkable effort and a waste of time. We propose in this paper an API called RegexCriteria inspired from Hibernate Criteria to support developer while analysing the results of a regular expression.

Abstract

In this work, we simulated and modeled silicon quantum dot based single electron transistor (SET). We simulated the device using non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) formalism in transport direction coupled with Schrodinger equation in transverse directions. The characteristics of SET such as Coulomb blockade and Coulomb diamonds were observed. We also present a new efficient model to calculate the current voltage (IV) characteristics of the SET. The IV characteristic achieved from the model are very similar to those from simulations both in shape and magnitude. The proposed model is capable of reproducing the Coulomb diamond diagram in good agreement with the simulations. The model, which is based on transmission spectrum, is simple, efficient and provides insights on the physics of the device. The transmission spectrum at equilibrium is achieved from simulations and given as input to the model. The model then calculates the evolved transmission spectra at non-equilibrium conditions and evaluates the current using Landauers formula.

Abstract

Blackberry Messenger is one of the popularly used instant messaging applications on Android with user’s amount that increase significantly each year. The increase off Blackberry Messenger users might lead to application misuse, such as for commiting digital crimes. To conduct investigation involving smartphone devices, the investigators need to use forensic tools. Therefore, a research on current forensic tool’s performance in order to handle digital crime cases involving Android smartphones and Blackberry Messenger in particular need to be done. This research focuses on evaluating and comparing three forensic tools to obtain digital evidence from Blackberry Messenger on Android smartphones using parameter from National Institute of Standard Technology and Blackberry Messenger’s acquired digital evidences. The result shows that from comparative analysis conducted, Andriller gives 25% performance value, Oxygen Forensic Suite gives 100% performance value, and Autopsy 4.1.1 gives 0% performance value. Related to National Institute of Standard Technology parameter criterias, Andriller has performance value of 47.61%. Oxygen Forensic Suite has performance value of 61.90%. Autopsy 4.1.1 has performance value of 9.52%.

Abstract

This paper proposes three types of single stage low-power RF front-end, called double-balanced LMVs, by merging LNA, mixer, and voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) exploiting a series LC (SLC) network. The low intermediate frequency (IF) or baseband signal can be directly sensed at the drain nodes of the VCO switching transistors by adding a simple resistor-capacitor (RC) low-pass filter (LPF). By adopting a double-balanced mixer topology, the strong leakage of the local oscillator (LO) at the IF output is effectively suppressed. Using a 65 nm CMOS technology, the proposed double-balanced LMVs (DB-LMVs) are designed. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz ISM band, the phase noise of the proposed three DB-LMVs is −111 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. The simulated voltage conversion gain is larger than 36 dB and the double-side band (DSB) noise figure (NF) is less than 7.7 dB. The DB-LMVs consume only 0.2 mW dc power from 1-V supply voltage.
