Abstract

The augment of ecological shield and the progressive exhaustion of traditional fossil energy sources have increased the interests in integrating renewable energy sources into existing power system. Wind power is becoming worldwide a significant component of the power generation portfolio. Profuse literature have been reported for the thermal Unit Commitment (UC) solution. In this work, the UC problem has been formulated by integrating wind power generators along with thermal power system. The Wind Generator Integrated UC (WGIUC) problem is more complex in nature, that necessitates a promising optimization tool. Hence, the modern bio-inspired algorithm namely, Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm has been chosen as the main optimization tool and real coded scheme has been incorporated to handle the operational constraints. The standard test systems are used to validate the potential of the GWO algorithm. Moreover, the ramp rate limits are also included in the mathematical WGIUC formulation. The simulation results prove that the intended algorithm has the capability of obtaining economical resolutions with good solution quality.

Abstract

Controlling the polarization of the light output from single-mode fiber systems is very important for connecting it to polarization-dependent integrated optical circuits, while applications using a heterodyne detection system. Polarization controller using fiber squeezer is attractive for a low-loss, low-penalty coherent optical fiber trunk system. However, for polarization controllers using electromagnetic fiber squeezer, the stability problem due to the saturation of their magnetic circuit must be studied. In fact, in their conventional configuration, open-loop stability affects performance and limits applications. First at all, this effect has been analyzed and a feedback circuit with correctors has been proposed to improve stability performance. Then a simulation study is proposed to examine the influence of the system parameters on the corrector constants. The results of the simulation show that if the system parameters change the constants Kp, Ki and Kd of the PID corrector must be adjusted to keep an optimized dynamic response.

Abstract

The present paper aims to prove the efficiency of using the cold to improve the performance of a household refrigerator. It is produced naturally in countries that are characterized by a severe wintry climate. The cold airflow is spread out inside a cavity covering the side wall of the appliance, which is connected to the inlet and outlet ducts. For that purpose, a Simulink model is proposed to model this installation. The internal air temperature is computed according to the evaporator temperature and the outside cold airflow that is also computed according to the outside temperature and controlled by a PID controller. The simulation results show that when the internal air temperature is higher than the desired one and the outside temperature is low enough, the controlled cold airflow used as a second cooling source allowed to speed-up the cooling inside the refrigerator compartment of about 36.21% and to reach an energy saving of about 36.23% compared with the classical thermostatic control.

Abstract

In this paper, the features that have personal characteristic using pen inclination and pressure information are discussed. Forging a pen inclination and pressure information is difficult because it is not visible. Four features using invisible information are proposed and their characteristics are discussed. Proposed features calculated by physical vector analysis are verified by SVC2004 database using DP matching algorithm. As a result, the new feature named Down improves the recognition rate and reliability. Average of correct verification rate is 94.57 % and variance is 0.667.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i4.474

Abstract

Electrical energy is important in various developments to ensure global stability. However, most electrical energy sources are non-renewable and these sources are expected to be depleted in the near future. In order to solve this problem, research on renewable energy sources are intensified and thermoelectric generator (TEG) is one of the potential solutions. TEG can generate electricity if the there is a temperature difference between the hot end and cold end of its plate and it is widely used in various applications, ranging from high temperature of a steam generator until to the lowest temperature of a human body. The initial development of this work focuses on the electrical power generator design by using focal lens to focus sunlight, a form of renewable energy, on the TEG hot end and also underground heat dissipation system on the cold end to create temperature difference. The initial results showed that the amount of power produced by the system is quite small but reasonable due to the type of TEGs used. However, the heat dissipation system showed a promising development due to its non-dependency on external energy to expel heat from the cold side.

Abstract

Child emotions are highly flexible and overlapping. The recognition is a difficult task when single emotion conveys multiple informations. We analyze the relevance and importance of these features and use that information to design classifier architecture. Designing of a system for recognition of children emotions with reasonable accuracy is still a challenge specifically with reduced feature set. In this paper, Probabilistic neural network (PNN) has been designed for such task of classification. PNN has faster training ability with continuous class probability density functions. It provides better classification even with reduced feature set. LP_VQC and pH vectors are used as the features for the classifier. It has been attempted to design the PNN classifier with these features. Various emotions like angry, bore, sad and happy have been considered for this piece of work. All these emotions have been collected from children in three different languages as English, Hindi, and Odia. Result shows remarkable classification accuracy for these classes of emotions. It has been verified in standard databse EMO-DB to validate the result.

Abstract

Vehicular Cloud Networks (VCN) is the network that ensures mobility and availability of resources allowing new services and applications like Network as a Service (NaaS), STorage as a Service (STaaS), Computation as a Service (CompaaS) and Cooperation as a Service (CaaS). In this paper, we propose a solution to secure the Vehicular Cloud Network (VCN). Our challenge in this work is to adapt the PKI architecture, which is mainly used in wired networks to be used in VCN. To propose a security solution for Vehicular Cloud Networks (VCN), our work is based on three steps; the first one is to make network architecture study, where we tried to highlight the main network components. The second step is to propose the security solution architecture. Finally, the last step is to program a test and validate the solution using a simulation.

Abstract

This paper proposes metamaterial (MTM) inspired frequency reconfigurable antenna based on thecircular electric field coupled (ELC) resonator. It is composed of circular shape ELC resonator with the radius size of 7 mm. By inserting two switches between the gaps at both side of the circular ELC resonator, it is possible to switch ON or OFF the unit cell. The antenna has been simulated using CST Microwave Studio software tool. The simulation result shows that the proposed antenna is capable of reconfiguring between two different frequencies which are2.18 GHz and 2.64 GHz. The simulated bandwidth at -10 dB is 4.12 % at resonance frequency of 2.18 GHz and 8.7% at 2.64 GHz

Abstract

In this paper, symmetric scanned linear antenna arrays are synthesized, in order to minimize the side lobe level of the radiation pattern. The feeding current amplitudes are considered as the optimization parameters. Newly proposed optimization algorithms are presented to achieve our target; Antlion Optimization (ALO) and a new hybrid algorithm. Three different examples are illustrated in this paper; 20, 26 and 30 elements scanned linear antenna array. The obtained results prove the effectiveness and the ability of the proposed algorithms to outperform and compete other algorithms like Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) and Firefly Algorithm (FA).

Abstract

Handover is a process that allows a mobile node to change its attachment point. A mobile node connected to a network can, in order to improve the quality of service, have the need to leave it to connect to a cell either of the same network or of a new network. The present paper introduce three techniques using adaptive Variable Step-Size Least Mean Square (VSSLMS) filter combined with spectrum sensing probability method to detect the triggering of handover in heterogeneous LTE networks. These techniques are Normalized LMS (NLMS), Kwong-NLMS and Li-NLMS. The simulation environment is composed of two femtocells belonging to a macrocell. Five User Equipements (UEs) are positioned in one femtocell and are assumed closest to its circumference. Simulation results show that sensing probability with Li-NLMS algorithm has a better performance compared with classical NLMS and Kwong-NLMS.
