Abstract

The Ti/Al/Ni/Au films deposited by electron beam evaporation on n type GaN was demonstrated as a suitable solution for low resistive and thermally stable contact to n-type GaN. The surface morphology of Ti/Al/Ni/Au and Ti/Al contacts were studied as a function of the annealing process conditions using image processing techniques. The algorithm was implemented using the MATLAB software. Using the algorithm made, the area occupied by the pores and porosity in the ohmic contact structures were obtained.

Abstract

This article presents a cascaded three-level voltage source converter (VSC) based STATCOM employing an artificial neuron network (ANN) controller with a new simple circuit of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique. The main aim of utilizing ANN controller and SVPWM technique is to minimize response time (RT) of STATCOM and improve its performance regard to PF amplitude, and total harmonic distortion (THD) of VSC output current during the period of lagging/leading PF loads (inductive/capacitive loads). The performance of STATCOM is tested using MATLAB/SIMULINK in IEEE 3-bus system. The simulation results clearly proved that the STATCOM with intelligent controller is more efficient compared to a conventional controller (PI controller), where ANN enables the voltage and current to be in the same phase rapidly (during 1.5 cycles) with THD less than 5%.

Abstract

Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) has become one of the most frequently utilised algorithms to adapt the metaheuristics parameters as an artificial intelligence technique. In this paper, the ???? parameter of Ant Colony System (ACS) algorithm is adapted by the use of FLC, and its behaviour is studied during this adaptation. The proposed approach is compared with the standard ACS algorithm. Computational results are done based on a library of sample instances for the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSPLIB).

Abstract

Mixing or combining different elements for getting enhanced version, is practiced across various areas in real life. Pan-sharpening is a similar technique used in the digital world; a process to combine two images into a fused image that comprises more detailed information. Images referred herein are Panchromatic (PAN) and Multispectral (MS) images. This paper presents a pansharpening algorithm which integrates multispectral and panchromatic images to generate an improved multispectral image. This technique merges the Discrete wavelet transform (WT) and Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS) through separate fusing criterion for choosing an approximate and detail sub-images. Whereas the maximal local extrema are used for merging detail sub-images and finally merged high-resolution image is reconstructed through inverse transform of wavelet and IHS. The proposed fusion approach enhances the superiority of the resultant fused image is demonstrated by quality measures like CORR, RMSE, PFE, SSIM, SNR and PSNR with the help of satellite Worldview-II images. The proposed algorithm is correlated with the other fusion techniques through empirical outcomes proves the superiority of the final merged image in terms of resolutions than the others.

Abstract

The statistical machine translation (SMT) is widely used by researchers and practitioners in recent years. SMT works with quality that is determined by several important factors, two of which are language and translation model. Research on improving the translation model has been done quite a lot, but the problem of optimizing the language model for use on machine translators has not received much attention. On translator machines, language models usually use trigram models as standard. In this paper, we conducted experiments with four strategies to analyze the role of the language model used in the Indonesian-Javanese translation machine and show improvement compared to the baseline system with the standard language model. The results of this research indicate that the use of 3-gram language models is highly recommended in SMT.

Abstract

Texture classification is widely used in understanding the visual patterns and has wide range of applications. The present paper derived a novel approach to classify the stone textures based on the patterns occurrence on each sub window. The present approach identifies overlapped nine 5 bit T-patterns (O5TP) on each 5×5 sub window stone image. Based the number of occurrence of T-patterns count the present paper classify the stone images into any of the four classes i.e. brick, granite, marble and mosaic stone images.  The novelty of the present approach is that no standard classification algorithm is used for the classification of stone images. The proposed method is experimented on Mayang texture images, Brodatz textures, Paul Bourke color images, VisTex database, Google color stone texture images and also original photo images taken by digital camera. The outcome of the results indicates that the proposed approach percentage of grouping performance is higher to that of many existing approaches.

Abstract

This paper presents an improved model of solar photovoltaic (PV) array along with the implementation of fuzzy logic as maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The proposed PV array behavioral model is more accurate and with reduced complexity though considered discrete components. The PV array model was well verified by considering the effect of change of environmental conditions, mainly intensity of solar irradiation (insolation) and temperature. The model was tested by feed a single phase inverter. MPPT control the operating voltage of  PV arrays in order to maximize their power output as a result maximize the array efficiency and minimize  the overall system cost. Using a Fuzzy logic based algorithm, the duty cycle of the converter inserted between source and load is adjusted continuously to track the MPP and compared with the conventional perturb and observed (P&O) method for changing environmental conditions. It was found that the Fuzzy logic based method can track the MPP more precisely and rapidly than the conventional one. In P&O method, if step size of input variable is very small, the accuracy in tracking MPP is sufficient but tracking speed becomes too slow. On the other hand if the step size is increased to imitate the rapidly changing weather conditions, accuracy deteriorates and unexpected results occur due to oscillation around a mean point although tracking speed increased. But in the case of proposed FLC whatever the step size of input variable it best suited to track MPP continuously and accurately. The obtained simulation results validate the competent of the solar PV array model as well as the fuzzy controller.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.1328

Abstract

The Current broadcasting enviroment is constally evolving in order to meet the various needs of the viewer such as ColorTV, 3D, HD, UHD TV serivce.  And they want to broadcasting the same quality in the fixed and mobile enviroment for high definition braodcasting serive. In this paper, we presnet a design and implementation  of muilplexing  system for fixed/mobile next generation broadcasting service in network free enivorment. Network free means receive both the broadcasting channel and communication chennel for various TV service. We introduce method to provide next generation convergence broadcating servies based on european standard which can transmit UHD content in network free envieroment.  As a result to this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the recieved signal from the commerical receiver device.

However, because of the dynamic change in natural scenes, the detection of movement becomes a more difficult task. In this work, we propose a new method for the detection moving objects that is robust to shadows, noise and illumination changes. For this purpose, the detection phase of the proposed method is an adaptation of the MOG approach where the foreground is extracted by considering the HSV color space. To allow the method not to take shadows into consideration during the detection process, we developed a new shade removal technique based on a dynamic thresholding of detected pixels of the foreground. The calculation model of the threshold is established by two statistical analysis tools that take into account the degree of the shadow in the scene and the robustness to noise.  Experiments undertaken on a set of video sequences showed that the method put forward provides better results compared to existing methods that are limited to using static thresholds.

Abstract

Femtocell is a promising technology that intends in solving the indoor coverage problems so as to enhance the cell capacity. The overall network performance, in turn depends on the access methods used by the femtocells. The access method is used to identify about the user’s connectivity with the femtocell network. There are three access mechanisms defined in Third Generation partnership Project (3GPP) specification for Long Term Evolution (LTE) femtocells: open, closed and hybrid access mechanisms. Hybrid access mechanism is mostly preferred by the network for the effective utilization of resources. But, it is important to regulate the proper scheduling scheme for them. In this paper, scheduling in femtocell is investigated, where, among the non subscribers, preference is given to the users who have high throughput priority metric, thereby increasing overall throughput of the network.
