Abstract

In several developing countries, the electricity crisis obstructs both socio-economic and technological sustainable evolution. Also, it leads to reducing job availability due to shut down several industries or relocate to neighbouring countries to such an issue. A Najaf City is an important holy and tourist city in the middle of Iraq country. Indeed, waste management in An Najaf City needs to be reconsidered to be used as an energy source. In this article, we investigated and listed the waste quantity which produced recently (one year) respect to waste types and types of content. Data collected from the waste products for one year and are used as a key factor to study the feasibility of generating electrical energy from collected MSWs. The proposed model was simulated and tested respect to cost analysis factor of the suggested power plant by Homer pro simulation software. Results were very encouraging and competitive to the current energy production cost based on the production cost of the Kwh prospective among the conventional methods in Iraq. The proposed scenario provide proper and secure waste proposal technique with low-cost.

Abstract

In this paper, the development of two novel circularly polarized microstrip antennas is thoroughly explained. These antennas are fed by coaxial feeding technique. One of the primary objectives of the proposed work is to tune the antennas to work in ISM band. This frequency band refers to the internationally recognized radio frequency bandwidth which is to be used explicitly for Industrial, Scientific, and Medical applications. Therefore, these antennas would be suitable to use in the field of wireless biotelemetry. Two new antenna design techniques have been introduced to produce circular polarization, and details of these schemes are described. The proposed microstrip antennas are designed and simulated on Advanced Design System (ADS) software. The return loss of the proposed crescent-cut antenna is -19.3 dB at the operating frequency. The extended corner antenna has the return loss of -29.3 dB at the tuned frequency. The simulation results are also presented and discussed.

Abstract

Although several techniques have been proposed for predicting biometric system performance using quality values, many of the research works were based on no-reference assessment technique using a single quality attribute measured directly from the data. These techniques have proved to be inappropriate for facial verification scenarios and inefficient because no single quality attribute can sufficient measure the quality of a facial image. In this research work, a facial image verification and quality assessment framework (FaceIVQA) was developed. Different algorithms and methods were implemented in FaceIVQA to extract the faceness, pose, illumination, contrast and similarity quality attributes using an objective full-reference image quality assessment approach. Structured image verification experiments were conducted on the surveillance camera (SCface) database to collect individual quality scores and algorithm matching scores from FaceIVQA using three recognition algorithms namely principal component analysis (PCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and a commercial recognition SDK. FaceIVQA produced accurate and consistent facial image assessment data. The Result shows that it accurately assigns quality scores to probe image samples. The resulting quality score can be assigned to images captured for enrolment or recognition and can be used as an input to quality-driven biometric fusion systems.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i6.5034

Abstract

The main aim of this research work is to analyze and develop voltage up gradation procedure model for effective & economic power distribution in urban and suburban area. Voltage up gradation from 6.6KV to 11KV of the distribution power system network has been considered for the proposed research work. Electric power consumption has been increasing uninterruptedly, being this increase specially accelerated in the last few years. Nowadays electric lines are saturated; they are reaching critical values of ampere capacity and sag. Therefore, building new lines has been necessary to provide the ever increasing consumption.  The difficulty to find new corridors to construct new distribution lines, underground cables is increasing in cities, industrial areas and in many cases it is simply impossible. The construction of new electric lines is increasing difficulty, thus there is a need to look at alternatives that increases the power transfer capacity. Voltage up gradation of the existing electric cables/lines of the distribution system is the most viable solution and it stresses on the savings of power due to a reduction in system losses when the voltage is high. The proposed research work is to develop and analyze voltage up gradation procedures and protocols for converting 6.6KV network into 11KV network in a distributed system. It also takes into account the expenses incurred in the process and the various other important constraints.

Abstract

The Internet of Things is touching all spheres of life, be it in connecting cities together, making agricultural farms and health care smarter, predictable and more secure, and in industries it is set out to bring about changes that are similar to those of the industrial revolution that took place in the 19th and 20th century. It is estimated by pundits that in next 5 to 10 years, the Internet of Things will become a 50 billion dollar industry by itself, encompassing everything that it touches and goes upon. In order to get healthcare enabled into the IoT ecosystem, the sensors and the actuators related to it must be able to support the protocols that is required for the acquisition, processing and storing of data from the sensors to the IoT based infrastructure. Here, for a proposed model for a health care monitor using Internet of Things, the sensors characteristics, working principal, the protocol associated with it, its internal mechanism, and the results obtained when interfaced using a Raspberry Pi arediscussed, laying the framework for the future of the sensors that need to be adapted to stay relevant in the future, when IoT transitions from concept to reality.

Abstract

We focused in this work on a fault tolerant control of a non linear hybrid system class based on diagnosis method (determine and locate the defects and their types) and on the faults reconfiguration method. In literature we can found many important research activities over the fault-tolerant control of non linear systems and linear Hybridsystems. But it dosen´t exist too many for the non linear hybridsystem. The main idea in this paper is to consider a new approach to improve the reconfiguration performance of the non linear hybrid system by using hammerstein method which is designed to works only for linear systems. This method compensated the effect of the faults and guarantees the closed-loop system stable. The proposed method is simulated with a hydraulic system of two tanks with 4 modes.

Abstract

The micro-accelerometers are devices used to measure acceleration. They are implemented in applications such as tilt-control in spacecraft, inertial navigation, oil exploration, etc. These applications require high operating frequency and displacement sensitivity. But getting both high parameter values at the same time is difficult, because there are physical relationships, for each one, where the mass is involved. When the mass is reduced, the operating frequency is high, but the displacement sensitivity decreases and vice versa. The implementation of Displacement-amplifying Compliant Mechanism (DaCM) supports to this dependence decreases. In this paper the displacement sensitivity and operation frequency of a Conventional Capacitive Accelerometer are shown (CCA). A Capacitive Accelerometer with Extended Beams (CAEB) is also presented, which improves displacement sensitivity compared with CCA, and finally the implementation of DACM´s in the aforementioned devices was also carried out. All analyzed cases were developed considering the in-plane mode. The Matlab code used to calculate displacement sensitivity and operating frequency relationship is given in Appendix A.

Abstract

In wireless communication, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been adopted due to its robustness to multipath fading and high data rate transmissions. At the other hand, the performance of OFDM systems severely degraded due to multi-path fading and Doppler frequency shifts in mobile systems, which causes inter-carrier-interference (ICI). Thus, Estimation of channel parameters is required at the receiver using a pre designed estimator where pilot tones are inserted in each OFDM symbol. In this paper, a random pilot data are generated and inserted in each OFDM symbol at equally spaced locations. The performance test of Least Square (LS) and Linear Minimum Mean Square (LMMSE) estimation methods are proposed with Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) based on both LS and LMMSE, where different ITU channel models are considered in order to compare their performance for data transmission in high mobile systems with different Doppler frequencies exceeds 200 Hz and minimal number of pilots.

Abstract

An Ad-hoc Network covers a set of autonomous mobile nodes that communicates through wireless communication in an infrastructure-less environment. Mostly MANETs are used in group communication mechanisms like military applications, emergency search, rescue operations, vehicular ad-hoc communications and mining operations etc. In such type of networks, group communication is takes place by multicasting technique. Communication and collaboration is necessary among the nodes in the groups in multicast protocols. PUMA has the best multicast routing protocol compared to tree and mesh based multicast protocols although it suffers from security issues. PUMA mainly suffers from Man In The middle attack. MITM attack generates traffic flow, drop the packets and miscommunicate the neighbor nodes with false hop count. So defending from MITM attack we designed a new mechanism called Elliptic Curve Group Diffie-Hellman (ECGDH). This paper compares results of PUMA [1] routing protocol with legitimate, under attack and after providing security against attack. Finally we observed ECGDH [2] gives efficient results even attack has happened.
