Abstract

In recent years, deep learning methods have been developed in order to solve the problems. These methods were effective in solving complex problems. Convolution is one of the learning methods. This method is applied in classifying and processing of images as well. Hybrid methods are another multi-component machine learning method. These methods are categorized into independent and dependent types. Ada-Boosting algorithm is one of these methods. Today, the classification of images has many applications. So far, several algorithms have been presented for binary and multi-class classification. Most of the above-mentioned methods have a high dependence on the data. The present study intends to use a combination of deep learning methods and associated hybrid methods to classify the images. It is presumed that this method is able to reduce the error rate in images classification. The proposed algorithm consists of the Ada-Boosting hybrid method and bi-layer convolutional learning method. The proposed method was analyzed after it was implemented on a multi-class Mnist data set and displayed the result of the error rate reduction. The results of this study indicate that the error rate of the proposed method is less than Ada-Boosting and convolution methods. Also, the network has more stability compared to the other methods.

Abstract

In this paper the performance of the electrical network of Egypt is studied by considering a small part on the network (Abu Hummus city). The transmission network of Abu Hummus city was created for 66 kV, 11 kV, and 0.4 kV in the digital simulation and electrical network calculation (DIgSILENT power factory software) to study the voltage profiles. The load flow operational analysis was performed to obtain the voltage magnitudes at every bus bar. The voltage magnitudes in 11 kV and 0.4 kV networks were 10% to 15% less than the nominal value due to overloading off the transmission lines and the voltage magnitudes in 66 kV was within permissible limits. By using automatic tap-changing transformer or Static VAR System, the main idea of this paper is to obtain the voltage profiles at every bus bar to improve the voltage quality of the networks, so as to achieve better voltage profiles on the low voltage side without much effect on high voltage side under various operating conditions.

Abstract

This paper presents models and economic analysis of ten different wind turbines for the region of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia using the hybrid optimization models for energy resources (HOMER) software. This study serves as a guide for decision makers to choose the most suitable wind turbine for Yanbu to meet the target of 58.7GW of renewable energy as part of Saudi Vision 2030. The analysis was carried out based on the turbines initial capital cost, operating cost, net present cost (NPC) and the levelized cost of energy (LCOE). Additionally, the wind turbines were compared based on their electricity production, excess energy and the size of the storage devices required. The results show that Enercon E-126 EP4 wind turbine has the least LCOE (0.0885 $/kWh) and NPC ($23.8), while WES 30 has the highest LCOE (0.142 $/kWh) and NPC ($38.3) for a typical load profile of a village in Yanbu.

Abstract

This paper treats the modeling, and the control of a wind power system based on a doubly fed induction generator DFIG, the stator is directly connected to the grid, while the rotor is powered by multilevel inverters. In order to get a decoupled system of controlfor an independently transits of active and reactive power, a vector control method based on stator flux orientation SFOC is considered: Direct vector control based on PI controllers. Cascaded H-bridge CHBI multilevel inverters are used in the rotor circuit to study its effect on supply power quality. All simulation models are built in MATLAB/Simulink software. Results and waveforms clearly show the effectiveness of vector control strategy. Finally, performances of the system will tested and compared for each levels of inverter.

Abstract

Optimal power generation along the cascaded Kainji-Jebba hydroelectric power system had been very difficult to achieve. The reservoirs operating heads are being affected by possible variation in impoundments upstream, stochastic factors that are weather-related, availability of the turbo-alternators and power generated at any time. Proposed in this paper, is an algorithm for solving the optimal release of water on the cascaded hydropower system based on steepest descent method. The uniqueness of this work is the conversion of the infinite dimensional control problem to a finite one, the introduction of clever techniques for choosing the steepest descent step size in each iteration and the nonlinear penalty embedded in the procedure. The control algorithm was implemented in an Excel VBA® environment to solve the ormulated Lagrange problem within an accuracy of 0.03%. It is recommended for use in system studies and control design for the optimal power generation in the cascaded hydropower system.

Abstract

Variable speed wind turbine systems (VSWT’s) have been in receipt of extensive attention among the various renewable energy systems. The present paper focuses on fuzzy fractional order proportional-integral (FFOPI) control segment for variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) directly driving permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The main objective of this study is to reach maximum power point tracking (MPPT) through combination of advanced control based on FFOPI control applied to generator side converter (turbine and PMSG). The basic idea of the FFOPI controller is to implement a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) in cascade with Fractional Order Proportional Integral controller (FOPI). A comparative study with FOPI and classical PI control schemes is made. The traditional PI controller cannot deliver a sufficiently great performance for the VSWT. However, the results found that the proposed approach (FFOPI) is more effective and feasible for controlling the permanent magnet synchronous generator to mantain maximum power extraction. The validation of results has been performed through simulation using Matlab/Simulink®.

Abstract

Content based image retrieval (CBIR) has become an important factor in medical imaging research and is obtaining a great success. More applications still need to be developed to get more powerful systems for better image similarity matching, and as a result getting better image retrieval systems. This research focuses on implementing low-level descriptors to maximize the quality of the retrieval of medical images. Such a research is supposed to set a better result in terms of image similarity matching. In this research a system that uses low-level descriptors is introduced. Three descriptors have been developed and applied in an attempt to increase the accuracy of image matching. The final results showed a qualified system in medical images retrieval specially that the low-level image descriptors have not been used yet in the image similarity matching in the medical field.

Abstract

Recently, the wide adoption of WSNs (Wireless-Sensor-Networks) is been seen for provision non-real time and real-time application services such as intelligent transportation and health care monitoring, intelligent transportation etc. Provisioning these services requires energy-efficient WSN. The clustering technique is an efficient mechanism that plays a main role in reducing the energy consumption of WSN. However, the existing model is designed considering reducing energy- consumption of the sensor-device for the homogenous network. However, it incurs energy-overhead (EO) between cluster-head (CH). Further, maximizing coverage time is not considered by the existing clustering approach considering heterogeneous networks affecting lifetime performance. In order to overcome these research challenges, this work presents an energy efficient clustering and routing optimization (EECRO) model adopting cross-layer design for heterogeneous networks. The EECRO uses channel gain information from the physical layer and TDMA based communication is adopted for communication among both intra-cluster and inter-cluster communication. Further, clustering and routing optimization are presented to bring a good trade-off among minimizing the energy of CH, enhancing coverage time and maximizing the lifetime of sensor-network (SN). The experiments are conducted to estimate the performance of EECRO over the existing model. The significant-performance is attained by EECRO over the existing model in terms of minimizing routing and communication overhead and maximizing the lifetime of WSNs.

Abstract

In many situations, not standardized and limited access to eye health care in several regions of Indonesia becomes the main challenge for myopia patients to measure and monitor their current refractive error condition. Many apps were proposed to provide low-cost alternative measurement tools rather than expensive tools such as Phoropter with Snellen chart and Retinoscopy, but still, those apps need an Internet connection and manually complex steps to operate. These conditions make myopia patients reluctant to use this kind of service. In this regard, we propose an intuitive diopter level measurement app based on mobile application setup, which implements the concept of measure the user face to smartphone screen distance for the rapid diopter calculation processes and at the same time provides a low-cost alternative refractive measurement tool. This paper highlights our experiences when developing a mobile application that can help patients with myopia measuring their blur line distances and evaluate their diopter levels independently. We conduct a number of human trials with the device on a controlled environment to demonstrate the ability of the proposed app to measure the diopter level. The experimental results show that the proposed app is quite successful in measuring the diopter level of myopia patients with a relatively small range of calculation errors compared to optometrist measurement results.

Abstract

Design of control strategies for Distributed generation systems is very important to achieve smoother transition between the grid connected and islanding modes of operation. The transition between these two modes of operation should be seamless, without any severe transients during the changeover. In this paper, two different control strategies namely inverter output current control and indirect grid current control for the seamless transfer between the modes of operation has been explored for the suitability. The design and analysis of the cascaded control loops based on Proportional Integral (PI) controller has been dealt in detail for both inverter output current control and indirect grid current control strategy. Control parameters are designed using the control system toolbox in MATLAB. A 10kW grid connected microgrid system has been designed and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and the results are presented under grid connected operation, islanding operation and the transition between the modes considering fault condition in the grid side. The simulation studies are carried out using both the control strategies and the results are presented to validate the design methodology.
