Abstract

Brain-machines capture brain signals in order to restore communication and movement to disabled people who suffer from brain palsy or motor disorders. In brain regions, the ensemble firing of populations of neurons represents spatio-temporal patterns that are transformed into outgoing spatio-temporal patterns which encode complex cognitive task. This transformation is dynamic, non-stationary (time-varying) and highly nonlinear. Hence, modeling such complex biological patterns requires specific model structures to uncover the underlying physiological mechanisms and their influences on system behavior. In this study, a recent multi-electrode technology allows the record of the simultaneous neuron activities in behaving animals. Intra-cortical data are processed according to these steps: spike detection and sorting, than desired action extraction from the rate of the obtained signal. We focus on the following important questions about (i) the possibility of linking the brain signal time events with some time-delayed mapping tools; (ii) the use of some suitable inputs than others for the decoder; (iii) a consideration of separated data or a special representation founded on multi-dimensional statistics. This paper concentrates mostly on the analysis of parallel spike train when certain critical hypotheses are ignored by the data for the working method. We have made efforts to define explicitly whether the underlying hypotheses are actually achieved. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to define the embedded memory order of NARX recurrent neural networks to the hand trajectory tracking process. We also demonstrate that this algorithm can improve performance on inference tasks.

Abstract

In this study, an analysis was conducted by using discrete wavelet packet transform (DWPT) and support vector machine (SVM) methods to determine undamaged and cracked plates. The pendulum was used to land equal impacts on plates in this experimental study. Sounds, which emerge from plates as a result of the impacts applied to undamaged and cracked plates, are sound signals used in the analysis and DWPT of these sound signals were obtained with 128 decompositions for feature extraction. The first four components, reflecting the characteristics of undamaged and cracked plates within these 128 components, were selected for enhancing the performance of the classifier and energy values were used as feature vectors. In the study, the SVM model was created by selecting appropriate C and γ parameters for the classifier. Undamaged and cracked plates were seen to be successfully identified by an analysis of the training and testing phases. Undamaged and cracked statuses of the plates that are undamaged and have the analysis had identified different cracks. The biggest advantage of this analysis method used is that it is high-precision, is relatively low in cost regarding experimental equipment and requires hardware.

Abstract

This research is related to language article in Indonesia that discuss about causality relationship research used as public health surveillance information monitoring system. Utilization of this research is suitability of feature selection, phrase annotation, paragraph annotation, medical element annotation and graph-based semantic annotation. Evaluation of system performance is done by intrinsic approach using the Naive Bayes Multinomial method. The results obtained sequentially for recall, precision and f-measure are 0.924, 0.905, and 0.910.

Abstract

Energy-saving, improving energy efficiency, and finding a new efficient way to use energy are considered as an urgent problem in over the world. In this paper, we consider the economics of energy use in combination with energy storage units where two forms of electricity exist in the power system. Then the problem of optimizing the installation capacity (to optimize the investment costs for energy storage) is presented and investigated in connection with the conversion systems. The topic opens a very significant result, including the introduction of a mathematical model to calculate the simulation in optimizing the installation capacity of the equipment in the system, multi-source power, as well as voltage and power stability benefits.

Abstract

Next generation cellular networks require high capacity, enhanced energy efficiency and guaranteed quality of service (QoS). In order to meet these targets, device-to device (D2D) communication is being considered for future 5th generation especially for certain applications that require the proximity gain, the reuse gain, and the hop gain. In this paper, we investigate energy efficient power control for the uplink of an OFDMA (orthogonal frequency-division multiple access) single-cell communication system composed of both regular cellular users and device to device (D2D) pairs. Firstly, we analyze and mathematically model the actual requirements forD2D communications and traditional cellular links in terms of minimum rate and maximum power requirement. Secondly, we use fractional programming in order to transform the original problem into an equivalent concave one and we use the non-cooperative Game theory in order to characterize the equilibrium. Then, the solution of the game is given as a water-filling power allocation. Furthermore, we implement a distributed power allocation scheme using three ways: a) Fractional programming techniques b) Closed form expression (the novelty is the use of wright omega function). c) Inverse water filling. Finally, simulations in both static and dynamic channel setting are presented to illustrate the improved performance in term of EE, SE (spectral efficiency) and time of execution of the iterative algorithm (Dinkelbach) than the closed form algorithms.

Abstract

This paper is focused on the solution of the non-convex economic power dispatch problem with piecewise quadratic cost functions and practical operation constraints of generation units. The constraints of the economic dispatch problem are power balance constraint, generation limits constraint, prohibited operating zones and transmission power losses. To solve this problem, a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm named crow search algorithm is proposed. A constraint handling technique is also implemented to satisfy the constraints effectively. For the verification of the effectiveness and the superiority of the proposed algorithm, it is tested on 6-unit, 10-unit and 15-unit test systems. The simulation results and statistical analysis show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. Also, the results confirm the superiority and the high-quality solutions of the proposed algorithm when compared to the other reported algorithms.

Abstract

Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) is a vehicle that is operated in the water surface without any person in the vehicle. Since there is no person in the ASV, a motion controller is essentially needed. The control system is used to make sure that the water vehicle is moving at the desired speed. In this paper, we use a Touristant ASV with the following specifications: the length is 4 meters, the diameter is 1.625 meters, and the height is 1.027 meters. The main contribution of this paper is applying the Sliding Mode Control system to the Touristant ASV model under the influence of environmental factors. The environmental factors considered in this work are wind speed and wave height. The Touristant ASV model is nonlinear and uses three degree of freedom (DOF), namely surge, sway and yaw. The simulation results show that the performance of the closed-loop system by using the SMC method depends on the environmental factors. If environmental factors are higher, then the resulting error is also higher. The average error difference between those resulted from the simulation without environmental factors and those with the influence of environmental factors is 0.05% for surge, sway and yaw motions.

Abstract

One of the most dangerous neurological disease, which is occupying worldwide, is epilepsy. Fraction of second nerves in the brain starts impulsion i.e. electrical discharge, which is higher than the normal pulsing. So many researches have done the investigation and proposed the numerous methodology. However, our methodology will give effective result in feature extraction. Moreover, we used numerous number of statistical moments features. Existing approaches are implemented on few statistical moments with respect to time and frequency. Our proposed system will give the way to find out the seizure-effected part of the brain very easily using TDS, FDS, Correlation and Graph presentation. The resultant value will give the huge difference between normal and seizure effected brain. It also explore the hidden features of the brain.

Abstract

A Wireless Sensor Network includes the distributed sensor nodes using limited energy, to monitor the physical environments and forward to the sink node. Energy is the major resource in WSN for increasing the network lifetime. Several works have been done in this field but the energy efficient data gathering is still not improved. In order to amend the data gathering with minimal energy consumption, an efficient technique called chaotic whale metaheuristic energy optimized data gathering (CWMEODG) is introduced. The mathematical model called Chaotic tent map is applied to the parameters used in the CWMEODG technique for finding the global optimum solution and fast convergence rate. Simulation of the proposed CWMEODG technique is performed with different parameters such as energy consumption, data packet delivery ratio, data packet loss ratio and delay with deference to dedicated quantity of sensor nodes and number of packets. The consequences discussion shows that the CWMEODG technique progresses the data gathering and network lifetime with minimum delay as well as packet loss than the state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract

Economic load dispatch problem under the competitive electric market (ELDCEM) is becoming a hot problem that receives a big interest from researchers. A lot of measures are proposed to deal with the problem. In this paper, three versions of PSO method such as conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO), PSO with inertia weight (IWPSO) and PSO with constriction factor (CFPSO) are applied for handling ELDCEM problem. The core duty of the PSO methods is to determine the most optimal power output of generators to obtain total profit as much as possible for generation companies without violation of constraints. These methods are tested on three and ten-unit systems considering payment model for power delivered and different constraints. Results obtained from the PSO methods are compared with each other to evaluate the effectiveness and robustness. As results, IWPSO method is superior to other methods. Besides, comparing the PSO methods with other reported methods also gives a conclusion that IWPSO method is a very strong tool for solving ELDCEM problem because it can obtain the highest profit, fast converge speed and simulation time.
