Abstract

Since the first outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 worldwide, research on modeling and simulation has grown, particularly to estimate the peak and end time of the pandemic which has been exceeded in some cases. This study aims to model the current virus spread with discrete event simulation, using the case of Jakarta. About 2 million of Jakarta's susceptible population was used for the the model's input which ran for a year. The data was obtained from past records and were divided into three main timelines (i.e. initial stage, large scale restriction and new normal) in order to validate the model with real cases step by step. Scenario analysis was then performed by evaluating five possible interventions such as: existing scenarios, social and health intervention, mass vaccination and hybrid intervention. The results show that the model represents real cases with a variation of less than 5% during the timeline. Furthermore, scenario analysis showed that mass vaccination, hybrid and social intervention provide the least positive cases in the system. This study recommends that hybrid intervention should be used while the vaccine is being mass produced, and the implementation of social intervention should be highlighted.

Abstract

Obesity is excessive body fat condition due to differences in energy consumption and expenditure. In Indonesia, the prevalence of obese women >18 years old is 32.9%. Interventions are performed with control eating and increased physical activity through an educational approach. A Leaflet is a print media containing some information, while my weight loss diet application is used by people that want to lose weight. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of nutritional education with leaflet and my weight loss diet application on nutritional status changes in obesity. True experimental design was used with pre-post test on female students divided into two groups in Universitas Brawijaya (n= 44) and selected by purposive sampling. Also, Independent-Samples T-Test and Mann Whitney analysis were conducted. The results showed a body mass index decrease in both media and no significant change related to BMI (p = 0.733). However, the decrease was more shown on the leaflet, where the body fat percentage had a significant change (p = 0.000). Hence, intervention using the leaflet is more effective on nutritional status changes related with BMI and body fat percentage in obese students.

Abstract

COVID-19 crisis has posed an enormous challenge for all healthcare services. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the cancer patients’ knowledge and perceptions on oncology service quality during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cancer outpatient knowledge and perceptions toward the changes in chemotherapy and radiotherapy service in response to the pandemic was evaluated using a questionnaire. Majority of the 230 participants were knowledgeable about the pandemic and more than 95% of them claimed to sufficiently practice preventive measures. Television and the internet were their main source of information, and despite the fear of being infected by the COVID-19 virus, less than 15% of the respondents thought to stop or delay hospital visits. Generally, the changes in oncology service were well-received by the patients and they trust the health care workers in maintaining their safety. Also, oncology services delivery to outpatients remains consistent despite several alterations in hospital policies. Personal protective equipment utilization by health care workers and patients proved to be an important factor in reducing anxiety during hospital visits. Policy makers need to fully utilize the internet and associated mobile applications as an education tool.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) case results in Semarang Regency is still in the low category. The IHE method was developed through counseling and training to support the community empowerment needed in assisting TB cases handling and determination. This study aims to determine the IHE method's effect and effectiveness on the knowledge and attitudes of Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (Empowerment of Family Welfare; PPK) members regarding TB disease. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-postest design and a sample size of 25 active PKK members in the Sumowono sub-district were used. Then, the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and N-Gran Score. The results showed the IHE method's effect on PKK members knowledge and attitudes regarding TB disease with P-values of 0.034 and 0.029, respectively. The IHE method effectively improved the PKK members attitudes towards TB disease (mean= 61.43%). There was an increase in the knowledge and attitudes of PKK mothers about TB disease through health education using the IHE method. The development in IHE is needed to be applied as a health education method in various other diseases.

Abstract

Type D personality is defined as the interaction between negative affectivity (NA) and social inhibition (SI). Hypertension has the highest cases in primary healthcare center (PHC) in Semarang City compared to other non-communicable diseases. This study aims to determine type D personality role on essential hypertension. It was a case-control study conducted at the PHC in Semarang City from January 2020 to March 2021 with 139 cases and 139 controls among 18-60 years old patients. Sample collection was performed by stratified random sampling. The instruments used were the DS-14 scale, structured questionnaire IPAQ-SF, food frequency questionnaire, and the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale, while data were analyzed using logistic regression. The prevalence of type D personality in the case group (64%; 95%CI: 55.9%-72.1%) was higher than in the control (36.7%; 95%CI: 28.7%-44.7%). Type D personality was discovered to be significantly associated with essential hypertension (OR: 3.07; 95%CI: 1.83-5.16). After other covariates adjustment, the association was still statistically significant (AdjOR: 2.41; 95%CI: 1.32-4.41).

Abstract

Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) is a worm infection with a prevalence of 1.5 billion people worldwide and is mostly found in preschool and school children. Worm infection can affect the level of concentration and the quality of children's learning which results in less optimal achievement within their potential. The purpose of the research was to determine the correlation between STH infection and anemia and the level of concentration in children grades II-VI of elementary school in Kampung Melayu Sub-district, Bengkulu City. The research conducted using an analytic observational with the cross-sectional design. The research took 215 students as samples with a stratified random sampling method. Feces specimens were examined by using Kato-Katz technique. Haemoglobin levels were measured by using the POCT method and students' concentration levels were tested by using the Bourdon Vos Test. The results showed a significant relationship between STH infection with the occurrences of anemia (p = 0.001; RP = 0.225) and very weak correlation strength between STH infection with the concentration level (p = 0.014; RP = -0.167). Worm infection in preschool and school children can cause anemia and nutrition deficiency which affect their growth and development, cognitive function, concentration levels and learning achievement. Continuous education and coordination with related institutions is necessary to carry out strategies for preventing and treating worms thoroughly.

Abstract

By 2030 it is predicted that there will be 52 million deaths per year due to NCD, an increase of 9 million from 38 million people today. The purpose of this research was to describe the risk factors for NCD in Medan using the stepwise WHO. This research method is a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. Univariate and Bivariate analysis using the Chi Square test were carried out in this research. 799 participants were recruited using accidental sampling technique. The place of this research was conducted in Medan City, North Sumatra Province. The results of this research indicate that age 55-59 years, last elementary school education, work as an entrepreneur and not eating vegetables are risk factors for diabetes mellitus in this research. It is suggested that local health workers provide health education through outreach to the community, especially the people of Medan City, on how to reduce the risk of increased blood sugar or diabetes mellitus incidence. In addition, participants or the community are expected to be able to maintain a good diet, namely by implementing balanced nutrition, especially paying attention to adequate vegetable consumption.

Abstract

Early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD) can reduce child mortality. The Sukoharjo district government trained birth attendants to practice of IMD. This qualitative study analyzed the practice of IMD in Sukoharjo. The theme of the results was: the practice of IMD in Sukoharjo seen from the Theory of Planned Behavior and Social Cognitive Theory. The categories found were: 1) There were several obstacles and support, 2) not all mothers had the intention to practice early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD), 3) in general, hospitals had not properly practiced IMD, 4) families did not obstruct IMD, 5) not all community health center implemented IMD according to standards, 6) not all birth attendants understood IMD correctly, 7) neighbors did not understand the importance of IMD, 8) not all mothers understood or asked for IMD before delivery, 9) birth attendants perceived that IMD was not burdensome, 10) health workers supported IMD, 11) there was government support, 12) mothers and birth attendants had good health expectations related to IMD, 13) the standard of IMD in Sukoharjo has been partially met. The conclusion is that the IMD in Sukoharjo was already underway but still needed a lot of improvement. When viewed from the TPB and SCT theory, some of the constructs were strong, but many of them were weak. Both of these theories can be used as a basis for interventions to improve the IMD.
