Abstract

Psychological capital and academic performance are factors which drive nomophobia among students. This phobia can happen due to the lack of psychological capital and academic performance as well as because some impacts on emotion, behavior, and negative behavior. Therefore, mindfulness-based cognitive individual counseling was chosen to improve psychological capital and academic performance so that nomophobia can be reduced, and students can have good responsibility as a student. This study used an experimental method with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design and involved 10 eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Arjawinangun as the subjects which were divided into two groups, namely one experimental group and one control group. Their data were analyzed using MANOVA. Once the data were analyzed, the mindfulness-based cognitive individual counseling could significantly improve the psychological capital and academic performance of the students with nomophobia symptoms with a sig. = 0.000< sig.= 0.05. This shows that the experimental group which received this counseling got better results than the control group.

Abstract

Low coping stress indicated by the practice of maladaptive coping practice was found in university students. Thus, the current study analyzed the effect of mindfulness and self-awareness on coping stress of students at Buddhist Universities in Central Java. It used a quantitative approach and correlational design. For the subjects, 180 graduate students majoring in Buddhist Education at Buddhist Universities in Central Java. In collecting their data, the scales of mindfulness, self-awareness, and coping stress designed by the researchers were used. Following the data collection, a multiple regression analysis was carried out and showed that there was an effect of mindfulness and self-awareness on coping stress. Regarding this finding, counsellors are expected to implement guidance and counselling services with the basis of mindfulness and self-awareness so that students can be prevented from maladaptive coping when dealing with stressors. For more, the future studies are recommended to use a qualitative design to reveal more deeply about coping with stress.

Abstract

Making career decisions is crucial for students to determine the education or job that aligns with their interests, talents, or opportunities in line with their vocational identity. This study aimed to analyze the impact of parental career-related behavior on three aspects: support, interference, and lack of engagement on career anxiety and career decision-making. It was a quantitativeresearch with a correlational research design and involved 297 twelfth graders at vocational high school (SMK) as the samples. Following the students’ data analysis there found that parental career-related behavior, regarding support and lack of engagement significantly influenced career anxiety and decision-making. In contrast, the interference aspect only significantly affected career anxiety, but not career decision-making. Furthermore, career anxiety significantly affected career decision-making. Lasltly, this study provides insight into parental involvement (parental career-related behavior) in students' career development. High career anxiety should be reduced to enhance student's ability to make career decisions.

Abstract

Hedonistic behavior refers to attitudes that prioritize pleasure, spending time outside the home, playing more, and enjoying the hustle and bustle of the city solely for the sake of pleasure, which result in negative behavior. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the influence of poetry appreciation on spiritual intelligence and hedonistic behavior. It was a quantitative study which used a correlational design and involved a total of 390 respondents as the study sample. Their data were collected using the instruments of the Attitudes to Beauty Scale (EBS), the Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory (SISRI-24), and the Female Hedonistic Behavior Questionnaire (FHBQ). Following the data collection and analysis, it was found that poetry appreciation significantly influenced spiritual intelligence. Furthermore, poetry appreciation had a significant indirect influence through the mediation of spiritual intelligence on hedonistic behavior. Based on these findings, it is recommended that counselors utilize and encourage students to assess and understand life phenomena expressed in poetry to enhance spiritual intelligence and reduce hedonistic behavior.

Abstract

Secondary school level is a strategic level in which a human must improve his knowledge or insights about a future profession and career planning. Thus, the present study strived for examining the effectiveness of quick response code-based career profession cards to enhance the insights of eight graders. The students’ data were collected using a career insights scale and further analyzed using paired sample statistic test and paired sample t-test. Following the analysis, there was an effect of quick response code-based career profession cards on the improvement of eight graders career insights. Therefore, the medium of quick response code-based career profession cards needs to be utilized to enhance students’ career insights.

Abstract

Multicultural Counseling is a counseling concept which accommodates cultural differences so that the counseling process can be accepted by counselees. This study attempted to describe the noble values in the Riau Tunjuk Ajar Melayu and their implications for multicultural counseling services. It used a qualitative method with the design of narrative ethnography, while the fordata collection, documentations and interviews were conducted. In addition, the ethnographic phenomena were further revealed using a content analysis, including: description, analysis, and interpretation. Findings showed that the noble values of Riau Tunjuk Ajar Melayu reflected the attitudes of openness and pluralism acceptance practiced by the Melayu society in Riau. Meanwhile, the values also portrayed the practice of multicultural values in the way they present a mentally healthy human figure who is humble, trustworthy, self-aware, confident, and having a sense of shame. Again, the values are universal and can be applied not only by counselors in multicultural counseling services, but also counselees to become good individuals according to the culture of the Riau Malay society.
