Abstract

This research aims to improve students’ critical thinking skill using Problem Based Learning assisted science comic book media. This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 2 cycles. The research subjects were 29 students in VB class of State Primary School (SPS) 1 of Todanan. The research data were obtained through observation and tests of critical thinking skill. Based on the observation result, student’s critical thinking skills have increased on: (1) elementary calarification by 15%; (2) basic support by 17%; (3) inference by 8%; (4) advanced clarification by 8%; (5) strategies and tactics by 11%. The result of test on critical thinking skill in cycle 1 was 62.06% of the passing grade. In cycle 2, it classically increased by 79.29%. Based on the data analysis, it was concluded that Problem Based Learning assisted with science comic book media can be used to improve the critical thinking skills of VB students of SDN 1 Todanan.

Abstract

This research aim is to investigate the influence of Total Physical Response method in the use of Flash Card to enhance children’s English vocabulary of group B in RA Islamic Tunas Bangsa 4 Ngaliyan. Method of this research was used experiment approach of non equivalent pre test-post test control group design. Sampling technique of this research was used random sampling technique. In this research, the sample was 36 children that were devided into 2 groups. 18 children were in the experimental group and 18 chidren were in the control group. Collecting data was used test, observation, questionarie, interview and documentation. Furthermore, data analysis was used t-test. Based on the research, Total Physical Response method using flash card has influence on the increasing of the children English vocabulary. It was shown of the t-test value which is tcount 5.407 ≥ 2.101 with the significant level α = 0.05. The success was caused by the stimulation of introducing English vocabularies through the media of Flash Card. It gave good outcome for children which is they able to pronounce the words, scrutinized the words, familiar with the words and understand the meaning of the words. Therefore, it can be said that this research had been proved that there was significant result of Total Physical Response method using Flash Card towars children English vocabulary mastery in RA Islamic Tunas Bangsa 4 Ngaliyan.

Abstract

This research aims to find out correlations of self-regulation to children’s readiness in enrolling primary school. This quantitative research used associative method. The population consisted 5,284 children aged 5-6 year old in Semarang municipal. The techniques of sampling used multistage random sampling. There were 220 children consisting of 110 male and 110 female children. The technique to collect the data was questionnaire in which the filling system was read aloud by the researcher as assistance. Self-regulation was measured by Head-Toes-Knees-Shoulders (HTKS) task. Meanwhile, the readiness was measured by readiness scale to enroll primary school. The hypothesis test used regression test. The results showed that tcount=1.847 > ttable =1.651. The sig score was 0.006<0.05. It meant there was correlation of self-regulation to children’s readiness to enroll primary school. Then, the effects of sex types as moderating variable with P = 0.709, larger than 0.05, showing that there was no difference in male self-regulation and female self-regulation to their readiness in enrolling primary school. Thus, it could be concluded that self-regulation influenced the children’s readiness to enroll primary school. However, both male and female children, they did not have significant difference. Thus, parents, teachers, and governments should cooperate in preparing children enrolling primary school level not only in term of children’s readiness aspect but also the external aspect, such as parents’ readiness and school readiness.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the guided inquiry model with outdoor activities setting on the critical thinking ability and science process skills of students. This is quantitative research applying a quasi-experimental with nonequivalent control group design. The population of this study were all students of SDN Gajah 2 Demak. The subjects of this study were students of class IV A as the control group and class IV B as the experimental group. Students in the experimental group were taught using the guided inquiry model with outdoor activities setting, while the students in the control group were taught using the guided inquiry model. The instruments used to measure the success of this study were essay questions to measure students' critical thinking skills and observation sheets to measure science process skills in the psychomotor domain. The results show that the use of guided inquiry models with outdoor activities setting is effective in developing critical thinking skills and science process skills. There are differences in the average score of critical thinking skills in the experimental and the control group with a significance level of 5% with the N-gain of the experimental group is 0.35 and the control group is 0.04. Applying guided inquiry learning with outdoor activities setting is able to improve the psychomotor domain science process skills in the experimental group using the guided inquiry model with outdoor activities setting.

Abstract

The objective of the research is investigating parents’ perspectives and decisions toward homeschooling at Charlotte Mason Indonesia Community (KCMI). The subject of the research is three parents who have children aged 4-6 years joining at KCMI. Qualitative phenomenology is selected as the research method. The data collecting techniques are interview, observation, and documentation. The data analyzing technique employ Miles and Huberman’s concept, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results reveal that: The reason of parents in choosing homeschooling varies. First, the difference between the concept of ideal education in the family and the system of educational institutions in Indonesia. Second, the dissatisfaction with the practice of early childhood education in the formal institution. Third, stimulating from reading books and articles on the internet about proper children's education, then reflecting it on education in Indonesia. Three parents choose KCMI as a place to develop and apply Charlotte Mason’s thoughts or philosophy about ideal child and education which is in line with the family principles.

Abstract

Low ability of mathematical connections affected by the lack of independence of students. Alternatives that can be used is using independent learning through mentoring using module based Brain Based Learning with grit character. The purpose of the research was to describe the module based Brain Based Learning and advisory guide category valid, the independent learning with assistance which was effectively improve the ability of mathematical connections, and describe the mathematical connection capability in terms of grit. The development stage modules using the procedures of Borg & Gall. The research was conducted at SDN 1 Manggungsari with sixth grade students as an experimental class. The analysis of the data used was the normality test, completeness, regression testing and test Gain. The results showed that Modules and advisory guide category was valid with the same score of 4.1; Self-regulated learning with assistance was effectively improve the mathematical connection, there is an increase of 0.53 at medium category, and 62.2% gave a positive response; Overall, student with high grit was able to understand the mathematical connection capability indicator. It can be concluded that self-assisted learning modules based Brain Based Learning with grit character can enhance the ability of the mathematical connections.

Abstract

The background of the research is how to low ability to recognize mathematical concepts of early childhood. The low ability is due to the use of instructional media which is less enjoyable for children when playing and learning in class. Gender of boys and girls may have different orientations in playing and in recognizing mathematical concepts. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in the influence of the use of animated films and animation on the ability to recognize mathematical concepts, analyze the differences in the influence of gender on the ability to recognize mathematical concepts, and analyze the interaction between animated films and gender in their effects on the ability to recognize mathematical concepts early childhood. This research uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design using Factorial (2x2). A population of 151 children with a purposive sampling technique obtained a sample of 105 kindergarten B children in the Dahlia PAUD cluster in Batangan’s Kecamatan. The collecting of data in this study from the results of observations and tests and analyzed using two-way ANOVA. The results showed, there were differences in the influence of the use of animated films and animation, F = 17.546 in sig. 0.001, there is a difference in the influence of gender, F = 5.399 with sig. 0.022 and there is no interaction between animated films with gender differences in the ability to recognize mathematical concepts in early childhood, F = 0.130 with sig. 0.719. This research can be used as an alternative in choosing fun learning media to introduce mathematical concepts in early childhood.
