Abstract

This article discusses the importance of the maritime paradigm in Indonesian national development. The maritime paradigm or what was once called as the maritime concept (wawasan bahari) or archipelagic concept (wawasan nusantara) is a development concept based on Indonesian identity as a maritime nation. The reinterpretation of this maritime paradigm is important in the context of the present period. First, to develop a clear conceptual and legal basis to the idea of the maritime state. Second, to implement in a practical manner the idea of the maritime state in the economic, political, social and cultural developments. By revitalizing and reinterpreting the maritime paradigm that is in line with the national identity it is hoped that national development based on the maritime state framework could achieve an optimal result.

Abstract

This article discusses the efforts of the decolonization of civil aviation by the Government of Indonesia from 1950 to 1958 through the nationalization of Garuda Indonesia joint venture airlines. The discussion of this article focuses on the explanation of the process of nationalization and its impact on the developmentof the airline. During this period, the nationalization efforts against Garuda Indonesia Airlines tended to be heavily influenced by the political policies of the two ruling Cabinet, that is Masyumi and PNI. This shows a great political tendency to the nationalization agenda of the civil aviation company. The nationalization ofGaruda Indonesia tends to exhibit a complex set of processes, because in addition to the transfer of government share ownership, the takeover of this company also requires a long process to get the human resources ready to operate the airline as a whole. At this stage, Indonesianization is of the utmost importance in the nationalization process of Garuda Indonesia.

This paper examines a historical trajectory using Kunio Yoshihara’s concept of ersatz capitalism to analyze the development of Indonesian automotive Industry during New Order Era, 1969-1998. The concept analyzes the fact that the ersatz capitalism structure and ersatz capitalists behavior had caused the failure of Indonesian automotive Industry development to achieve self-reliance. Through the research, this paper analyzes the role of the ersatz capitalists from the various background such as military, Chinese capitalists, and president families and relatives had supported foreign principal domination In Indonesia. Those capitalists are reluctant to support government programs toward self-reliance industry and choose to strengthen their ties with foreign principals, in order to get immediate profit return without much investment and technological research.
