Sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA) is a reliable method for detection and diagnosis of faults in the active part of transformers. However, although SFRA is widely employed, the interpretation of SFRA signature is still a challenge and require experts to analyse them. This is due to lack of guideline and standard for SFRA signature interpretation and clarification. This paper presents the interpretation of SFRA signature by classification and quantification on inter-turn short circuit fault on the transformer winding. The short-circuited turns fault on HV winding phase “A” was practically simulated on three different units of three-phase transformers. The results of simulated fault are presented and discussed. A conclusion was drawn which provides the interpretation of the SFRA response due to inter-turn short circuit fault case by using a statistical indicator which is NCEPRI algorithm.

This document is a contribution to improve the quality of electrical energy in the distribution network.In this article we will present a method that allows us to clean up in a very considerable way the electrical network of both harmonics and inter harmonics provoked, basically by the ultrafast switches used when controlling a PWM inverter supplying a three-phase asynchronous motor. We notice that this method can be generalized for other loads creating inter-harmonics.This proposed method was simulated using the MATLAB/SIMULINK software and had given remarkable results (there is a considerable reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD) of source current from 29.52% to 0.82%)

This paper describes the application of several types of materials to act as capacitive plates in a Capacitive Power Transfer (CPT) system. In general, the efficiency of CPT system is greatly influenced by the coupling capacitance which is varied by distances and permittivity values. Thus this paper intended to compare the performance of CPT system in terms of the output efficiency for several types of capacitive plates. To be specific, copper plate, zinc, and aluminium are used in this work to act as coupling plates to the CPT system. The CPT system in this work applied class E inverter as it has lowest switching losses among its competitors, i.e. class D and class F. The work is validated through experimental setup of CPT system in which copper material provides the best efficiency of the system.

In this paper, DTC is applied for two-level inverter fed IM drives based on neuronal hysteresis comparators and The Direct Torque Control (DTC) is known to produce quick and robust response in AC drive system. However, during steady state, torque, flux and current ripple. An improvement of electric drive system can be obtained using a DTC method based on ANNs which reduces the torque and flux ripples, the estimated the rotor speed using the KUBOTA observer method based on measurements of electrical quantities of the motor. The validity of the proposed methods is confirmed by the simulation results.The THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of stator current, torque ripple and stator flux ripple are determined and compared with conventional DTC control scheme using Matlab/Simulink environment.

This paper presents an accurate Lithium-ion battery model representation in Matlab/Simulink. The Tremblay's battery model was used as a BES model platform, where the determination of the model parameters was obtained based on heuristic optimization approach. This approach is simple but more accurate compared to the conventional method. In the classical method, it requires the user to manually select the battery model parameters from relevant points on the manufacturer discharge curves. However, this way of battery parameters extraction normally exposed to the human error and would easily result in an inaccurate selection of battery parameters for the BES simulation studies. Therefore, an easy and accurate approach using heuristic optimization for determining battery model parameters was introduced. The simulation studies utilized three different optimization algorithms for comparison purposes, i.e. 1) Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), 2) Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), and 3) Genetic Algorithm (GA). The performance of BES model discharge accuracy with respect to the test data from three different algorithms was compared and the results showed that the GA approach gives the best results in terms of accuracy and execution time. Finally, the validated results of GA-optimized battery model showed the accuracy of 98% compared to the conventional approach.

A recuperating converter is highly demanded in traction power substation to deliver the braking energy generated by a traction vehicle. Conventional voltage source inverter had been implemented in the traction power station. However, large ac line filters must be installed to improve the quality of ac voltages and currents. This paper proposes to install a nine-level Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) as a recuperating converter. The main aim is to eliminate the need of ac line filters while producing good quality of ac voltage and current waveforms. The MMC is designed and modelled using MATLAB/Simulink Simulation tool. A centralized control of balancing all the sub-module capacitor voltage level is proposed with Third Harmonic Voltage Injection Level Shifted Pulse Width Modulation (THVI-LSPWM) technique. The simulation results prove that with the application of MMC, good quality of ac voltages and currents are being produced. The Total Harmonic Distortion indexes are found less than 3.5 % without using any ac line filters in the system. In addition, the classic DC link capacitance has also being eliminated.

This document proposes a photovoltaic (PV) based single-phase dynamic voltage restoration (DVR) device, it eliminates both sag and swell voltage and compensates for power. The proposed system requires a power source to compensate for the sag/swell voltage. This system has found a simple topology for the DVR that uses PV with two DC-DC boosts converters as the DC power source for the dynamic voltage conservator. The DC/DC boost converter powered by the PV generator is used to increase the voltage to meet the DC bus voltage requirements of the single-branch voltage source inverter (VSI). This system uses renewable energy; saves energy accordingly and supplies power to critical/sensitive loads. The control method used in this work is a Sliding Mode Control (SMC) method and relies on a phase locked loop (PLL) used to control the active filter. The effectiveness of the suggested method is confirmed by the MATLAB/Simulink® simulation results and some prototype experiments. These results show the capacity of the proposed DC link control.

In the proposed system, a strategy for the control of energy consumption by home appliances is provided. The statistics of previous energy production and consumption of a case study city are used in providing the strategy. In the design of the proposed system, home appliances are categorized into three levels of priority, even though it can be more than three. In this article the control of energy consumption is achieved using a real time energy consumption manager (ECM) based on stored data without the need for real time communication. The system which is proposed here is affordable and simple. Also, it does not require grid upgrade or power line communication through the grid.

To tackle the widespread challenges encountered during the management of power flow in electrical networks, the integration of smart grid (S.G)is proposed as a viable solution to address the environmental and economic concerns. In order to enhance overall functionality of the electric power delivery system, operation of the smart grid is governed by data-driven algorithms where various sensors and smart meters are used to collect this data. On other hand, the fluctuating cost of fossil fuels and its negative impact on the environment has incentivized the exploitation of renewable energies in the smart grid. In the present paper, a hybrid Photovoltaic/Wind (PV/Wind) is suggested to supply a smart grid. The objective of this study is to asses the feasibility of a smart grid supplied solely by renewable energy sources. Conceptual standings of this newly suggested model are validated by simulations.

Researchers have found interest in the multilevel inverters (MLI) owing to the low total harmonic distortion (THD) associated with their output voltage, as well as their low electromagnetic interference (EMI). The MLI represents an effective and feasible solution for enhancing power demand and minimizing AC waveforms’ harmonics as they generate a preferred level of output voltage as inputs from varying levels of DC voltages. In this paper, the performance of a seven-level cascaded H-bridge MLI with an asymmetrical number of power switches was evaluated. The simulation performance is shown to validate the operating principle of the single-phase cascaded H-bridge inverter. To control the MLI, a pulse width modulation approach was utilized. The operating principle of the MLI was verified via simulation using PSIM software.
