The paper presents the description for diagnostic methods of induction motor's stator windings fault. The presented methods use Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) technique for detection of Winding Faults in Induction Motor . This method is previously reliable method for faults diagnosis and detection in many parts of transformers including transformer windings. In this paper, this method was used for motor windings faults detection. This paper presents the FRA response interpretation on internal short circuit (SC) fault at stator winding on three cases studies of different three-phase induction motors (TPIM), were analysed according to two status: healthy induction motor at normal winding status and same motor with windings shorted of main windings. A conclusion of this paper provides the interpretation of and validation the FRA response due to internal SC fault case by using NCEPRI algorithm, which is considered as one of certified statistical indicators. The proposed method in this paper had a useful result for detect and diagnosis of stator windings faults of TPIM. The applications of developed method can be used to detece the other machines types faults.

This paper represents a new configuration of the dynamic voltage restorer consists of approximate classical sliding mode differentiator (ACSMD) with the terminal sliding mode controller (TSMC) as the nonlinear sliding variable. In this study, the proposed structure of the DVR is utilized to maintain the magnitude of the load voltage at a constant value, maintain the system total harmonic distortion (THD), boost the robustness property and minimize the steady-state error. The power quality has received more interest due to the implementation of various industrial devices and critical loads at the distribution side. Nowadays, the main challenges in power quality in the system are voltage sags/swells, harmonics and voltage imbalance. Various devices are utilized to address these challenges. The dynamic voltage restorer is one of these devices. It is connected in series with the distribution system and injects a proper voltage magnitude to maintain the voltage load at the constant value. In this paper, the DVR model with the ASMF and TSMC is implemented in using MATLAB/Simulink. The proposed controller is evaluated using the standard voltage sag indices.

This paper presents development of a prototype sensorless dual axis solar tracker for maximum extraction of solar energy. To prove the concept and evaluate the proposed algorithm, a low cost widely availabe materials were used which was programmed based on Arduino microcontroller. The porposed algorithm works based on two search methods namely the global search that approximates the best point location in a region, and local search that further determines the actual sun’s position. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm gives better performance compared to the existing sun position algorithm (SPA) - based method as well as the fixed panel system. In terms of total output power, the proposed algorithm gives 17.96% more efficient than the fixed system and 6.38% better than the SPA-based system. Furthermore, the percentage error of the experimental measured angle to the actual sun azimuth angle was relatively minimal (less than 3%) during clear day operation. The system was proven to be effective in tracking the sun for improved energy production of solar PV panels and the proposed algorithm also can be used for designing the tracker with larger size of solar PV systems.

This paper proposes a scheme to improve regenerative ABS technology that already exists today by adding accommodation faults to the control system. The nominal control algorithm used is a sliding mode control so that system nonlinearities can be handled properly. The proposed method then is called sensor/actuator fault tolerant sliding mode control system. In designing the proposed control, there are two stages, namely estimation of faults, as well as the active mechanism for reconfiguring controls. Estimation of faults is done by using proportional-integral (PI) observers based on extended state space equation. Whereas the control signal reconfiguration is done actively by replacing measured output with their estimates and compensating for control signal using the actuator fault estimate. The simulation shows that the control system based on the proposed algorithm produces better dynamic performance than the sliding mode control (SMC) without fault tolerant feature. Furthermore, the system provides inherent characteristic for dealing with a minor fault in the hydraulic actuator.

This paper presents a novel approach of self-tuning for a Modified Fractional Order PID (MFOPID) depends on the Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS). The proposed self-tuning controller is applied to Power System Stabilizer (PSS). Takaji-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy logic technique is used to construct the MFOPID controller. The objective of MRAS is to update the five parameters of Takaji-Sugeno Modified FOPID (TSMFOPID) controller online. For different operating points of PSS, MRAS is applied to investigate the effectiveness of proposed controllers. The harmony optimization technique used to obtain the optimal parameters of TSMFOPID controllers and MRAS parameters. For different operating points with different disturbance under parameters variations the simulation results are obtained. This is to show that Self-Tuning of TSMFOPID based on (MRAS) have better performance than the fixed parameters TSMOFOPID controller.

This paper observe the total harmonic distortion (THD) performance of single phase five level inverter using proportional resonant (PR) and harmonic compensators current controller. The THD when adding PR current controller was 1.6% at first. After more functions were added to the PR current controller to reduce the THD at the 3rd, 5th and 7th harmonic orders, the THD of the 3rd harmonic order was reduced from 0.45% to 0.1% while the 5th and 7th harmonic orders were reduced from 0.6% and 0.43% to 0.25% and 0.4% respectively. The development and simulation is performed using Matlab/Simulink. The simulation result is performed by using Fast Fourier Transform analysis (FFT) for the harmonics captured.

Harmonics and grid synchronization are one of the major problems faced when dealing with a single-phase system. The development of technology in the PV system makes the consumer to use it in a wide range. The power transferred from PV to grid needs DC to AC conversion process which is done by static devices operating with the higher frequencies that causes the harmonics in the grid connected system. The main aim of the paper is to implement grid synchronization and reduce total harmonic distortion in a single-phase grid connected system. The design of LCL filter is addressed in this paper which depends on current ripple, filter size and switching ripple attenuation. In order to account the harmonic content, the FFT analysis is made both in analysis and Matlab Simulink. The Proportional Resonant (PR) controller is developed and work along with LCL filter for reducing the harmonic content. The stability of the system with PR is analyzed using root locus and bode plots and results are compared with PI controls. The result shows that PR controller performs better compared to the PI controller for reducing the harmonic content present in the single-phase system and for improving the system stability.

Batteries play an essential role on most of the electrical equipment and electrical engineering tools. However, one of the drawbacks of lead acid batteries is PbSO4 accumulates on the battery plates, which significantly cause deterioration. Therefore, this study discusses the discharge capacity performance evaluation of the industrial lead acid battery. The selective method to improve the discharge capacity is using high current pulses method. This method is performed to restore the capacity of lead acid batteries that use a maximum direct current (DC) of up to 500 A produces instantaneous heat from 27°C to 48°C to dissolve the PbSO4 on the plates. This study uses an 840 Ah, 36 V flooded lead acid batteries for a forklift for the evaluation test. Besides, this paper explores the behavior of critical formation parameters, such as the discharge capacity of the cells. From the experimental results, it can be concluded that the discharge capacity of the flooded lead acid battery can be increase by using high current pulses method. The comparative findings for the overall percentage of discharge capacity of the batteries improved from 68% to 99% after the restoration capacity.

The voltage generation process is a very crucial initial stage for the successful operation of the self-excited induction generator (SEIG). The availability of residual magnetism and the adequacy of excitation capacitor value are factors that determine the success of the voltage generation process on the SEIG. This paper analyzes the effect of the availability of residual magnetism on the rotor's magnetic core. With a simple approach, the terminal voltage on the SEIG can be solved through the intersection between the magnetization curve (Xm) and the excitation curve (Xce). The shape and equation of the magnetization curve will be affected by the availability of residual magnetism. The change in residual magnetism availability will cause a change in the intersection point between the magnetization curve (Xm) and the excitation curve (Xce), which will determine the value of voltage generated by the generator. In this study, Newton Rhapson's method with numerical iteration approach has been used to analyze the effect of changes in the availability of residual magnetism on the success of voltage generation on the SEIG. The analysis results have been shown that the availability of residual magnetism with residual voltage values below 1.04 Volt will cause the failure of the SEIG to generate the terminal voltage at its nominal value. Meanwhile, the availability of residual magnetism in SEIG with residual voltage values above 1.04 Volt, will succeed in generating terminal voltage at its nominal value. For SEIG used as the object of this study, the value of Eres = 1.04 Volt is a critical value of the availability of residual magnetism.
