In the article the circuit design solution of DC-DC regulated resonant converter has been proposed for using with hybrid photovoltaic modules which has cooling equipment and solar concentrators in order to maximize electric power generating by such module. By using computer simulation based on multiple iterations algorithm we significantly increase the accuracy of determining the resonance circuit optimal parameters for build up DC–DC converters to work in a wide range of electric powers. Based on optimal values of the resonance LLC scheme parameters, achived by numerical calculation it can be show high values of electrical energy transformation efficiency for photovoltaic energy station equipped with high efficiency hybrid photovoltaic modules. Implementation of microprocessor-based control into design of DC–DC back-boost converters create a new possibility to build control algorithms for increase reliability and conversion efficiency, rapid and precision stabilization of maximum power point, implementation network monitoring of photovoltaic modules, converters itself and the whole photovoltaic station parameters.

This article is divided into three parts: the first presents a simulation study of the effect of occupancy level on energy usage pattern of Engineering building of Applied Science Private university, Amman, Jordan. The simulation was created on simulation mechanism by means of EnergyPlus software and improved by using the building’s data such as building’s as built plan, occupant’s density level based on data about who utilize the building throughout operational hours, energy usage level, Heating Ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system, lighting and its control systems and etc. Data regarding occupancy density level estimation is used to provide the proposed controller with random number of users grounded on report were arranged by the university’s facilities operational team. The other division of this paper shows the estimated saved energy by the means of suggested advanced add-on, FUZZY-PID controlling system. The energy savings were divided into summer savings and winter savings. The third division presents economic and environmental analysis of the proposed advanced fuzzy logic controllers of smart buildings in Subtropical Jordan. The economic parameters that were used to evaluate the system economy performance are life-cycle analysis, present worth factor and system payback period. The system economic analysis was done using MATLAB software

The study made in this paper concerns the use of the voltage-oriented control (VOC) of three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier with constant switching frequency. This control method, called voltage-oriented controlwith space vector modulation (VOC-SVM). The proposed control scheme has been founded on the transformation between stationary (α-β) and and synchronously rotating (d-q) coordinate system, it is based on two cascaded control loops so that a fast inner loop controls the grid current and an external loop DC-link voltage, while the DC-bus voltage is maintained at the desired level and ansured the unity power factor operation. So, the stable state performance and robustness against the load’s disturbance of PWM rectifiers are boths improved. The proposed scheme has been implemented and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The control system of the VOC-SVM strategy has been built based on dSPACE system with DS1104 controller board. The results obtained show the validity of the model and its control method. Compared with the conventional SPWM method, the VOC-SVM ensures high performance and fast transient response.

This paper aims to evaluate the performance of synchronous reluctance motors assisted by a permanent magnet (PMa-SynRM) focused on efficiency and torque pulsations. PMa-SynRM shows high efficiency and power factor, compared to induction motors (IM), although they have a greater cost. These machines develop relatively high torque ripple, cogging torque, and torque imbalances. Consequently, the electromagnetic torque is reduced, the motor temperature is increased, and mechanical vibrations are induced. The optimal design of the machine structures such as flow barriers, permanent magnets, and stator slots, among others, allow reducing torque pulsations. A comparison is made between different designs of the PMa-SynRM reported in the scientific literature, and the effects on efficiency, torque pulsation, and operating costs are evaluated. A case study on the motor driving the air conditioner blower in a hotel room was made, to determine the best economic variant between IM or PMa-SynRM. A sensitive analysis was made to evaluate several uncertainties. The advantages of using one of the PMa-SynRM analyzed were demonstrated. Also, it was proved that the investment is feasible economically, although NPV and payback are not the best, due to low load factor in inverter-controlled motors in air conditioners.

Among the most widespread renewable energy sources is solar energy; Solar panels offer a green, clean, and environmentally friendly source of energy. In the presence of several advantages of the use of photovoltaic systems, the random operation of the photovoltaic generator presents a great challenge, in the presence of a critical load. Among the most used solutions to overcome this problem is the combination of solar panels with generators or with the public grid or both. In this paper, an energy management strategy is proposed with a safety aspect by using artificial neural networks (ANNs), in order to ensure a continuous supply of electricity to consumers with a maximum solicitation of renewable energy.

In this paper, load current balancing are reviewed in both three-wire and 4-wire systems taking into account linearity, harmonics injection, and control schemes. A linearized static compensator (STATCOM) based on H-bridge voltage source inverter (VSI). The proposed STATCOM is controlled in closed loop mode via equipping it with a new current controller. The DC capacitor voltage of the STATCOM is kept constant without using external energy injection or storage devices via shunting the DC capacitor with a suitable series filter. The simulation results of the current responses of the 220V, 50Hz STATCOM reveal continuous and linear performance during responding to reactive current demands from 123A inductive current to 227A capacitive current. The transition time required for the proposed STATCOM during treatment of a sudden change in reactive current demand from maximum inductive current to maximum capacitive current is less than 40ms. The steady state portions of the STATCOM current responses show pure sinusoids, thus the proposed STATCOM can be promoted as harmonic free static Var compensator. The closed loop continuous mode control and the considerable linearity of the proposed STATCOM promot it as a bipolar susceptance (capacitive and inductive) in applications of load current balancing systems in both three and four wire power systems.

This paper proposes a new bidirectional step-up DC-DC converter, namely modified buck-boost DC-DC converter. The proposed DC-DC converter was derived from the conventional buck-boost DC-DC converter. Output voltage expression of the proposed converter was derived by considering the voltage drops across inductors and switching devices. The results have shown that with the same parameter of input LC filter, proposed DC-DC converter has lower conduction losses. Moreover, the proposed DC-DC converter has lower rated voltage of filter capacitor than the conventional boost DC-DC converter which lead to cost efficiency. Finally, a scaled-down prototype of laboratory experiment was used to verify its theoretical analysis.

Cell imbalance can cause negative effects such as early stopping of the battery charging and discharging process which can reduce its capacity. In the previous active balancing research, the energy used for the balancing process was taken from the cell or battery pack, resulting in drop of electric vehicle driving range. In this paper, a cell charger based battery balancing system is proposed with a reduction in the number of switches. The use of a cell charger aims to increase the usable energy of the battery pack, since the energy used for the balancing process is taken directly from the grid. The use of fewer switches aims to reduce the cost and space used on the battery management system (BMS) hardware. The charger used for the balancing process has a maximum current of 3 A and a maximum voltage of 3.65 V while the number of switches used is n+5 for n batteries. A 15S1P 200 Ah LiFePO4 battery pack consists of 15 cells used for testing purpose. The test results show that the time needed to equalize the 15 cell battery voltage reaches 6 hours from the difference between the highest and lowest battery cell voltages of 145.1 mV to 15.1 mV.

The global interest in electric cars aims to achieve sustainability in the transportation sector and reduce dependence on conventional cars that mainly depend on fossil fuels, the main source of emissions polluting the environment. However, the electric cars required electric fast chargers to charge the batteries with high currents in order to make the electric cars competitive with conventional cars that required a short time for filling fuel. Single-phase electric chargers make the distribution feeders with unbalanced currents as the single-phase loads and single-phase PV inverters. In the case of the unbalanced operation, one of the three phases may reach its maximum limit before other phases which leads to disconnect the transformer and thereby inefficient and unreliable system operation. This paper presents a control scheme for a three-phase, four-leg power converter that can be used as a fast charger for electric cars. Moreover, it can be used for balancing grid currents and for reactive power compensation. This will avoid frequent interruptions of distribution transformers due to unbalanced operation and reactive power loads. The distribution feeder considered to evaluate the control scheme consists of single-phase loads and inverters in addition to the proposed converter. The converter controls the charging power effectively and balancing the feeder currents. Moreover, during off charging time which is a possible manner for the charging station when the EV battery is fully charged the converter is effectively used for unbalanced mitigation and reactive power compensation. The simulated results show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Lithium ferro phosphate (LiFePO4) has a promising battery technology with high charging/discharging behaviours make it suitable for electric vehicles (EVs) application. Battery state of charge (SOC) is a vital indicator in the battery management system (BMS) that monitors the charging and discharging operation of a battery pack. This paper proposes an electric circuit model for LiFePO4 battery by using particle filter (PF) method to determine the SOC estimation of batteries precisely. The LiFePO4 battery modelling is carried out using MATLAB software. Constant discharge test (CDT) is performed to measure the usable capacity of the battery and pulse discharge test (PDT) is used to determine the battery model parameters. Three parallel RC battery models have been chosen for this study to achieve high accuracy. The proposed PF implements recursive bayesian filter by Monte Carlo sampling which is robust for non-linear and/or non-Gaussian distributions. The accuracy of the developed electrical battery model is compared with experimental data for verification purpose. Then, the performance of the model is compared with experimental data and extended Kalman filter (EKF) method for validation purposed. A superior battery SOC estimator with higher accuracy compared to EKF method has been obtained.
