Abstract

High power demands are usually met by advanced power electronics converters in several large utility and electric drives applications. Applications from high power drives commonly uses solution based multi pulse and multilevel converters. A common DC link with atleast one voltage source converter (VSC) working with almost fundamental switching frequency are used in converters of multipulse type, and each output module is connected with the multipulse transformer in series. When compared to that of solution with single-VSC, Several VSCs generating different triggering pulses are adjused in order to achieve current injected with low specified total harmonic distortion (THD) with losses of abridged switching. Huge structure in complexity and expensive cost expenditure of the multipulse transformer is the major limitation of this scheme. DC link split capacitors in addition are eliminated by modifying the topology of the circuit. Thus, the independent voltages of the DC capacitor are controlled and decreased in number and the flow of third harmonic current component in the transformer is eliminated. The scheme of the designed controller is depending on the derived mathematical system model. Simulaion observation is used to check the scheme performance and efficiency in a detailed way with drive control technique.

Abstract

Wireless power transmission (WPT) has attracted a wide variety of subjects in various disciplines and has also become a highly active research field due to its capacity to facilitate charging systems. Wireless power transmission will be compulsory to use soon as this technology enables electrical energy to be transmitted from a power source to an electrical load over an air gap without connecting wires. Wireless power transmission has been developed in the low power (1W to 10W) and high power (100W-500W) region. While the low power region development focuses on powering medical transplants and mobile charging, the higher end of the power spectrum is being developed for the electric vehicle (EV) applications. However medium power range (10W to 100W) is relatively unexplored due to lack of proper applications. The commercial WPT scheme is mainly used for the charging of lithium-ion batteries. Sensitive medium power loads like Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries do not have a wireless modular charging system. This paper discusses a proposed scheme for wireless charging of medium-range loads. LiPo batteries are used as the targeted charging load. A minimalistic approach has been considered while designing the electronics for efficiency improvement and a compact, modular scheme. The proposed scheme has been developed for drone and robotics applications and the results are validated.

Abstract

The aim of this work is to design and analyze a Proportional Integral (PI) controller for Positive Output Luo Converter applications. Positive Output Luo Converter is a developed DC-DC converter. It is respected as a right choice for most industrial application where the rate of the output load voltage must be varying between the low and high values of the input value of voltage, output voltage rise and fall is smaller. This converter involve Power electronics switches (Diodes and MOSFET) since these elements are non-linear. The detailed model includes high-frequency switching that is introducing discontinuities into the model. PI controller coefficients (kp, ki) are calculated by particle swarm optimization (PSO) to provide optimal PI as hybrid PI by PSO controller with simple design procedure .Transient and steady state responses requirement of the system are considered in designing the proposed PI controller. The consequences show that the time of performing characteristics of PSO-PI controller established on integral squared error (ISE) performance index has the best time performing characteristics, line disturbance, load disturbance and set point variation.

Abstract

Saving energy and greenhouse gas emissions in commercial buildings become a very serious request of buildings’ designers and engineering crew. The goal behind the current research is to high light and demonstrate the outcome of utilizing advance and intelligent building management system (IBMS) based in utilizing a fuzzy logic controller that allows the usage and the control of natural light (day light). The fuzzy logic controller (FLC) was sat to control the buildings dimming system while utilizing natural light which normally allows to add outdoors illuminance into the inside ones. This control system is significant mean technique that can be used in intelligent buildings commercial buildings, hence energy savings and consequently, greenhouse gas emissions reduction. The proposed control system relies on enumerating the outdoor and the indoor illuminance and allowing some add-on controllers in order to put into effect a photometric computer that capable of comparing and tasking decisions to regulate rooms lighting fixtures. The article also demonstrates energy savings using this technique and then suggest proper markets for using this controlling system whether during the buildings’ design stage, existing commercial buildings.

Abstract

A Quasi Z-Source (qZS) network has been utilized in a B4 inverter topology to provide voltage boosting effect by turning on the upper and lower switches simultaneously which is known as zero shoot-through states. However, the design of a qZS B4 inverter is not as straightforward as adding a qZS LC impedance network to the front-end of a B4 inverter. This is because there is no zero vectors available in a B4 inverter topology to insert the shoot through zero states, as in the case of a B6 inverter. This paper proposes a new Space Vector Modulation (SVM) technique for a qZS B4 inverter. Additional zero vectors have been appropriately added and distributed in the proposed SVM to avoid altering the existing volt-sec per switching cycle for the existing active vectors. The voltage vectors switching placement is carefully designed in order to enable the voltage boosting effect for this topology without altering the initial output voltage. In addition, an approach to compensate the DC-link voltage ripple has also been taken into consideration in its initial calculation to achieve balanced output voltage. The performance of the proposed modulation technique is verified using MATLAB/Simulink. It is shown that by using the proposed modulation technique, there is an overall improvement on the line to line output voltage where by it is able to produce balanced output voltages for the three-phase loads with or without boosting effect.

Abstract

This paper proposes a new technique for a voltage source multilevel inverter (MLI) with reduced switch count, and it creates a smoother sinusoidal output waveform with reduced total harmonic distortion (THD). Therefore, the proposed technique identifies a better position in the list of multilevel converters used for power quality conditioners. Semiconducting devices are added to it if the number of levels increases. In this work, the topology of MLI with reduced number of switches is presented. A new MLI is proposed with lower number of switches and sources in order to achieve higher level. The proposed topology is framed out with the combination of three half bridge and a single H-bridge configuration. Detailed simulation results for 15-level inverter of single and three phase inverters are presented in this paper. Three phase 15-level inverter is developed by employing three isolated different renewable sources and 21 switches.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a method for a line follower robot based on the instantaneous computation of the radius of curvature of this line, using infrared line sensors. The number and layout of its sensors, as well as the method chosen, play an important role in the robot's response to the line, with the desired accuracy and speed. In addition, the robot must be equipped with an anti-collision system, using an ultrasonic distance sensor, to detect and avoid obstacles in several situations, especially at line crossovers, when other robots share a common complex line.

Abstract

The electrical profiles of the renewable polymer graphite (PG) composites upon ultra violet (UV) curing were investigated. Renewable PG films were prepared by mixing with varying weight percent of graphite (with an increment of 5 wt. % of prepared graphite) up to 30 wt.% and crosslinker. Then, the composites solution was slip casted and cured upon stimulated UV irradiation (UV accelerated weathering tester) at different time exposure (up to 1000 hours) was applied. Small changes on the functional groups of the composites were observed due to UV exposure time by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Suggesting that chemical crosslink and chain scissions occurred within renewable polymer graphite composites. Further electrical profile through two point probe and four point probe method recorded visibly fluctuating values for both resistivity and conductivity within its composites range. Proposed here that the removal of organic contaminants and weak materials form both renewable polymer and graphite particles through the UV curing may have an effect on the formation of conductive network stability.

Abstract

The economic dispatch problem of power plays a very important role in the exploitation of electro-energy systems to judiciously distribute power generated by all plants. The Unit commitment problem (UCP) is mainly finding the minimum cost schedule to a set of generators by turning each one either on or off over a given time horizon to meet the demand load and satisfy different operational constraints, This research article integrates the crow search algorithm (CSA) as a local optimizer of Eagle strategy (ES) to solve economic dispatch and unit commitment problem in smart grid system of two electricity networks: a testing system 7 units and the Moroccan  network.. The results obtained by ES- CSA are compared with various results obtained in the literature. Simulation results show that using ES-CSA can lead to finding stable and adequate power generated that can fulfill the need of both the civil and industrial areas.

Abstract

Several non-linear controls are developed for controlling a wind energy conversion system equipped with a DFIG double feed asynchronous generator. Exploitation of the aerodynamic power captured by the turbine gives a new instruction to the controller based on passivity by keeping the hypersynchronous regime of the DFIG. An adaptive observer MRAS was developed for the considered as a structure in which the rotor speed is estimated from the measurement of stator and rotor currents. Our goal is to maximize active power, minimize construction costs in order to control wind turbine systems using our passivity and observation method. Best results were obtained using sensorless MPPT and IDA-PBC methods.
