Abstract

Abstract

Spontaneous combustion problems are often almost ignored, one of which occurred in ROM stockpile at PT. Prima Dito Nusantara (PDN) which is an important issue in the coal mine. Some of the factors that cause the occurrence of spontaneous combustion at the company was the lack of stockpile management such as the length of the stockpiling of coal, compaction method of the coal piles on a less good, there has been no temperature measurement of the coal piles, and a lack of prevention efforts as well as handling against spontaneous combustion. To find out when the estimated occurrence of spontaneous combustion then do the measurement temperature of the coal pile periodically by measurement point temperature on compaction with Excavator and compaction with Bulldozer. Measurement results showed on compaction with Excavator faster occurs spontaneous combustion symptoms when compared with compaction with Bulldozer. Where in compacting with the Excavator can be estimated to occur in week-9 with highest median temperature 42,22°C, compacting with Bulldozer can be estimated in week-15 with highest median temperature 39,10°C. Therefore, compaction with Bulldozer better applied than compacting with Excavator to reduce the occurrence of symptoms of spontaneous combustion of the coal piles at ROM stockpile. Keywords: Spontaneous Combustion, Stockpile Management, Excavator, Bulldozer, Temperature.

Abstract

Abstract. Acid Mine Drainage is a serious problem for the environment. In addition because of the low pH, acid mine drainage also contains metal ions such as Fe and Mn. In PT Indo Allied Coal Jaya Sawahlunto, West Sumatra there was standing water on the mining front, if  not clear treatment for acid mine water, quality of water the content of the metal. The purpose of this research is to know the levels of metals and pH with the help of media filtration using five ingredients i.e. activated carbon, coir, evergreen leaves, rice husk and river sand. The parameters examined were pH, iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). The results obtained showed that all pH levels as well as Fe and Mn rising and only 1 sample 4 sample i.e. decline on testing Fe. From the results of the highest pH are present in sample 2 of 8, whereas the lowest was at sample 1 of 7.48. For the content of Fe, the value highest content found in sample 2 of 0.37 mg/l and the lowest is present on the samples 3 and 4 with 0.02 mg/l. While for Mn the highest found in sample 2 i.e. registration 0.91 mg/l and Mn for the lowest contained on the sampe 4 i.e. amounted to 0.39 mg/l. Keywords: filtrasi, acid mine drainage, sabut kelapa, daun cemara, activated carbon

Abstract

The change of forest or agricultural land function into a habitation made the diminished or rainwater infiltration into the soil (infiltration). This causes the groundwater reserves to decrease and the larger surface flow. In addition, infiltration is also influenced by several other things such as the condition of lithology, topography, and soil physical characteristic. For that reason, it is necessary to study the final infiltration rate, as it has been tested in the Batang Arau watershed of Padang. This research was conducted on 31 measurement points, from the upstream into the downstream of watershed which mostly located in alluvium area. The data obtained are the primary data in the form of direct observation in the field, they are infiltration rate estimation (double ring infiltrometer), description of lithology (handbor), matric suction (tensiometer) ¸ and the measurement of soil physical characteristic (sand cone). Based on data processing using Kostiakov model, the mean  of final infiltration rate in the study area was 0,0914 cm / min, belong to the very low recharge classification (<0,1 cm/min). The high infiltration rates occur in sand lithology, and the low one occur in clay and silt lithology with agricultural land use. Based on statistical analysis, the soil physical characteristic simultaneously have a very strong correlation with the infiltration rate (0,894). The infiltration zonation mapping is divided into 6 zones, with the lowest infiltration rate zone 0,000808 – 0,058093 cm/min, and the highest infiltration rate zone 0,991835 – 1,46157 cm/min. In addition, the water debit that can be absorbed by the soil in the research area with an area of 96,187 km2 is very small, 54.000,0437 m3/jam/km2.Keywords:  Infiltration Rate, Lithology, Land Use, Soil Physical Characteristic, Infiltration Zonation

Abstract

Abstract. Problems of environmental damage such as flood, garbage and drought in Indonesia is a problem that can not be solved. One of the things that cause problems to this flood is this is the decreasing of water absorption area and unconscious society not to throw garbage carelessly. Limited land in residential areas results in space for water catchment areas and few dumps. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide knowledge and skills to the community about the application of environmentally appropriate technology that is Biopori Absorption Hole technology (LRB). This activity is useful to increase the ground water reserves and reduce the waste as well as to produce compost. Partners of this activity are 2 groups of residents Rukun Tetangga (RT) that is RT 04 and RT 06 Village Tabing Banda Gadang, District Nanggalo, Padang. This form of activity consists of lectures and practices of making biopore infiltration holes. The practice of making the biopore infiltration hole involves community participation. Many of the created biopore holes are made up of 10 holes per each RT. The hole is 10 cm in diameter and 100 cm in depth. The holes that have been made therein incorporated organic waste in the form of remnants of vegetables, paper, fruit peels and others - others. Thus LRB is useful in reducing waste, increasing groundwater reserves, reducing the flow of surface water that causes flooding and will reduce the dangers of drought. Besides, LRB will produce compost that can be useful to increase people's income. Keywords:  Biopori Absorption Hole (LBR), Flood, Organic and Inorganic Waste.
