Jurnal AL - AZHAR SERI HUMANIORA merupakan jurnal ilmiah yang memuat makalah dan artikel hasil penelitian atau kajian teoristis dalam bidang Humaniora. Kata Al-Azhar berakar dari z-h-r. Verba zahara bermakna to shine, give light, be radiant, to glow, gleam, glare, shine, to blossom, be in bloom (Wehr, 1974:384). Dengan demikian kata Al-Azhar berarti sesuatu yang bersinar, yang memberi cahaya, yang berseri-seri atau yang mekar. Jurnal ini diterbitkan 2 (dua) kali dalam setahun yaitu pada bulan Maret dan bulan September.

Abstract

A law no 20/2000 paragraph 50, article 3 has been enacted by the Ministry of education concerning the implementation of International class in high Schools throughout Indonesia. The purpose of this regulation is to standardize the quality of the Indonesian students educational qualification to those of students abroad. As a result, Cambridge International Examinations IGCSE, A/AS Level have become popular to the majority of Indonesian High Schools, especially  for subjects such as Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. This research will look upon the develompment of school implementation of IGCSE, A/AS Level of English Language in SMA N 70 jakarta as a case study. Through several assessments of students IGCSE, A/AS Level tests, interviews, questionners and material evaluation, a reliable findings will be identified. At the end, ways of effective learning and teaching of IGCSE, A/AS Level  for Indonesian High Schools will be suggested.

Abstract

In solving Early Childhood Education (ECE) problems comprehensively and tactfully  need to involve parents and community, especially mothers. Involving mothers in ECE aim at empowering them to educate their children, so they are not only depending on government program. Spectacular growth of ECE institution is about 13 institution at Grogol sub-district in the two years shows that the role of mothers’ association called PKK in ECE. The mothers’ association participation on ECE is interesting and fascinating to investigate where at the same time the government tries to increase mothers emancipation. On the other hand the euphoria   of  ECE  growth needs well manage for continuity. The continuity of ECE program are questioned because most of teachers and managers are not well educated on ECE. Most of them are Junior High School graduates, pension or an house wife. The research are trying to investigate, (1) what is the motive of the mothers involvement in ECE institution? (2) what is  mothers   idea about  ECE continuity in dealing with budgeting, services, and  quality of education. Based on data collected from 80 respondent using questioner and analyzed by   descriptive statistic and qualitative. The research findings are as follows: Firstly, the involvement of mothers are to act devotion by helping other people, to implement their   knowledge and their experience in former job, and  the need for achievement; secondly, the mothers idea about the ECE continuity are finding for donation, socialization the important of ECE, and increasing teacher competence through training.

Abstract

Code-switching, a code change in language use, is a language phenomenon in bilingual or multilingual societies.The rapid development of technology causes many language changes also occur in internet including social networking sites such as Facebook. This research is about how the code-switching from Bahasa Indonesia to English is demonstrated in Facebook status of UAI students. The research focuses on the types of code-switching, language patterns, themes, and function of code-switching. Data are code-switched Facebook status analyzed with theories of code-switching by Poplack (1980), Gumperz (1982), and Romaine (2000). This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The result demonstrates the types of code-switchings in Facebook status are inter-sentential and intra-sentential switchings. Both types of code-switchings are expressed in words, phrases, and sentences. Code-switched words are nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs. Phrases in code-switching are noun, adjective, adverbial, and prepositional phrases. Whereas code-switched sentences found in the Facebook status are single, compound, and complex sentences. The themes in code-switched Facebook status cover the themes related with social, academic, and personal lives of the language users.  The functions of code-switching in the analyzed status are to express emotion and particular meanings, to impose specific meanings, and to show language user’s identities.

Abstract

This paper investigates the effect of student aid programs introduced by Alazhar Indonesia University (UAI) on the study duration of bachelor program students who registered at the university in the academic years of 2004 – 2006. We apply semiparametric duration model with censored and complete data for this study. Estimation results, using a partial maximum-likelihood technique and considering several risk factors representing student aids, demographic, and individual traits, reveal that student aid programs are significantly abel to explain the variation of student’s study duration and also their probability to gaduate from UAI after certain period of study time. In general the higher the period of student aid received, the shorter the student’s study period. In addition there is empirical facts that regardless of their traits and characteristics, student’s probability to graduate will be bigger when his/her study period has exceed eight semester.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to study the relationship between learning outcome on statistic, learning outcome on research methodology and thesis quality. The research was carried out at the student Al Azhar University, with 53 samples of thesis which were selected randomly. The research concludes there is positive correlation between: (1) learning outcome on statistics and thesis quality; (2) knowledge on research methodology and thesis quality; (3) furthermore, there is a positive correlation between learning outcome on statistcs, learning outcome on research methodology, with thesis quality. Therefore thesis quality can be increased by improving learning outcome on statistic, and learning outcome on research metodhology.

Abstract

There is a gap between the outcomes of higher education and the demands of competence in the workplace (Observation Teichler, 1997, 1999; Yorke and Knight, 2006). It is necessary to anticipate and evaluation conducted by the universities to the needs of the working world of the competence of its graduates. For this reason, preaches study program of Healing and Counseling at University of Al Azhar Indonesia needs to put through research, whether Healing and Counseling Program will be able to achieve the vision of its mission into educational institutions that can print a preacher who can do the required counseling Islam in society and the world of work today . This study aims for Healing and Counseling Studies Program to conduct an evaluation of the competencies needed by the real world of work in society and to adapt appropriate teaching curriculum. The results showed that the competence of graduates of Healing and Counseling Program UAI was needed in the world of work and competence in the appropriate field for Healing and Counseling is generally associated with human resources (HR) or Human Resources Department, namely as a counselor, therapist, spiritual counselor / preachers, volunteers for various family problems, physical, educational, religious, Islamic law, and violence.

Abstract

Studies about job performance show that it is influence by many variables. These present study what to test the hypotheses that work engagement and organization culture simultaneously influence job performance. Data were collected among employees at University Al Azhar of Indonesia. The result show that both of the variable, work engagement and organization culture influence job performance but organization culture show better prediction than work engagement.
