Abstract

Growing student numbers present a significant opportunity to develop Islamic philanthropy, but a comprehensive introduction to philanthropy is necessary. Purpose: This research describes how Islamic education introduces philanthropy to students through theoretical explanations and project assignments. This research uses a case study and unstructured interviews to collect data from ITNY students. Additionally, a literature review is required to bolster the gathered data. This research demonstrates that teaching philanthropy in the classroom is not the only approach; it also requires tangible actions, which students can achieve through projects. It is crucial to convey to students that philanthropy encompasses not only financial donations but also the creation of engineering products that benefit society, emphasizing the importance of empathy in addressing social issues amidst technological advancements in today's society. 5.0

Abstract

This paper emphasizes the up-and-coming place of mosques in promoting environmental care and sustainable development among Muslim communities. In so doing, it places mosques at the forefront of one of the potentially transformative agents of change with respect to climate challenges by aligning Islamic teachings on stewardship with modern ecological practices. To relieve the environmental burden, it aims to show how mosques can be implicated in the greenest technologies, such as renewable energies, water conservation systems, solid waste management, and architectural design. Through desk research and case studies of mosques in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Morocco, the research underlines the initiatives that have reduced energy consumption, optimized water use, and fostered community involvement. In this regard, the Morocco Green Mosque Program has been able to reduce energy consumption by as much as solar panel installations do. At the same time, mosques in Indonesia have implemented rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling. Additionally, mosques serve as community centers for environmental education, wherein religious teachings have engaged more than 70% of congregants in sustainability programs. Funding and long-term maintenance remain significant challenges, which justifies strong policy support and alignment with the Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework. Moreover, mosques can be pivotal in educating the younger generation on climate awareness, shaping them to become future advocates for environmental protection. This study indicates the potential of mosques for fulfilling religious duties to enable meaningful contributions toward global climate action and the SDGs.

Abstract

Ijtihād , which is the utilization of a Muslim jurist’s sense of reasoning to determine the legal status of an action under the Shari’ah, has played a major role in widening the scope of Islamic law and in making it responsive to the unending human problems and needs. The aspect of succession in Islam has been a discipline, which common Muslims have always believed that its content has been fully addressed by the texts in exclusion of juristic polemics. Hence, the current study aims to assert the role of Ijtihād in the subject, using waṣiyyat wājibah (compulsory will) as a case study. The study adopts a qualitative method in reaching its submissions. It discovers that Ijtihād has played a major role in the development of mirath across ages. It also asserts that waṣiyyat wājibah is a product of both neo-Ijtihād and collective Ijtihād which is prone to further assessment of its validation, particularly in regions which do not share same experience with the Arabo-Muslim nations where it is legislated. The study recommends further research into how Ijtihād has developed the contents of mirath.

Abstract

Religious moderation is an urgent necessity in the era of globalization to maintain social stability and interfaith harmony. Islamic-based higher education institutions, such as Ahmad Dahlan University, play a strategic role in shaping students' moderate and tolerant character. This study examines the practice of religious moderation in the Hadith Studies Program at Ahmad Dahlan University, aiming to understand how moderation values are applied in the academic environment and student life. This research employs a descriptive quantitative and causal approach using a survey method. The research population consists of students from the Hadith Studies Program at Ahmad Dahlan University, with a sample of 61 students selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using a Likert-scale-based questionnaire to measure attitudes, understanding, and practices of religious moderation. The study reveals that students' attitudes toward religious moderation play a significant role in shaping moderate behaviors. Furthermore, a deep understanding of moderate religious values supports the effective implementation of religious moderation, while moderate religious practices enhance its application in daily life. The findings contribute to the development of religious moderation theory, demonstrating that students' attitudes, understanding, and practices have a substantial impact on moderating religious views. These insights can serve as a foundation for designing more effective educational programs aimed at fostering moderate attitudes and understanding among students.

Abstract

The discourse on polygamy in Islamic law encompasses diverse perspectives. Muhammad 'Abduh and Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir are two figures known for their gender-friendly paradigm for understanding fiqh munākaḥāt, especially polygamy. Both are contemporary scholars with different backgrounds. This study aims to analyze the thoughts of Muhammad 'Abduh and Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir as well as the similarities and differences in their views on polygamy. The research method used is descriptive-analytic which explains the ijtihād background of each figure with a comparative approach. The results show the similarities between 'Abduh and Faqihuddin in three categories: the style of interpretation is tafsīr bi al-ra'y, the dominant method of interpretation is munāsabah al-āyah with verses 2 and 129 al-Nisā' and includes women's experiences, and both prohibit polygamy that leads to harm.. The differences are also divided into three categories; 'Abduh's paradigm is al-db wa al-ijtimā’ī while Faqihuddin mafhūm mubādalah, 'Abduh correlates verse 3 of al-Nisā' with verses 2 and 129 while Faqihuddin with verses 2, 128, 129, and 130, and differences in the characteristics of writing 'Abduh who tends to interpret words and Faqihuddin tends to interpret the wording of the verse as a whole.
