Abstract

There has been considerable research done by academicians and practitioners on corporate bankruptcy predictions, though in the field of corporate turnaround such research were somehow much lacking. Scholars argued that early acceptance of turnaround situation were important for successful recovery. Therefore early predictions on turnaround situation were much needed. This paper seeks to give an overview of corporate turnaround predictions. The samples were taken from the main board companies of Bursa Malaysia from the year 1997 to 2005. Data were taken from financial statement which being published in the Handbook of Annual Report. Several financial ratios were considered in the analysis to see whether a significant difference exists between Turnaround and Non-Turnaround firms. The research used Logistic Regression Analysis as statistical tool. The study found Financial Leverage Ratio (Total Debt/Total Asset), Sales/Total Asset, Receivables/Inventory and Total Tangible Asset to have statistical significant measure to differentiate between the two groups of companies. The study also found that those ratios could be use as significant predictor variables in measuring the probability of a particular company to fall under one of those categories. Hopefully the findings of the research would shed some light and give a better platform in predicting which company would enter the phase of turnaround situation.

Abstract

On February 4, 2004, the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) was implemented the changed its trading rules from continuous open to opening call, called pre-opening session. The purpose of this trading rules changed is to improve market liquidity. Previous study found that the opening call would reduce the volatility and spread at the opening call than the continuous open. These studies analyze market volatility and liquidity (trade base and order base) using intra-day data from the Indonesian Stock Exchange, where this market uses pre-opening session as the opening call. More than 100,000 transactions were used in this study with one- month period. The results of this study are contradicts to the previous studies. Using the opening call does not reduced market volatility, especially at the opening trade. The opening trade is more volatile then closing trade. Using the opening call do not impair on liquidity, especially for high volume stocks, based on trade or based on order. This phenomenon was contradicts to the conventional wisdom which suggests that thinly traded stocks is better in call trading method while the continuous auction method is preferred for heavily traded stocks.

Abstract

Entrepreneurial intention, defined as a process of information-searching which can be used to achieve a new venture, has been intensively discussed as a contributed factor for those who intended to create a business. This study was purposed to explore predictors of entrepreneurial intention among Indonesian and Chinese students. We quantitavely integrated 241 students that have been used to investigated the relationship of the personality and environmental factors with entrepreneurial intention. As hypothesized, multiple regresson analysis and independent-sample t-test revealed the differences of entrepreneurial intention’s predictors among both countries. Chinese students were mostly affected by need for achievement, locus of control, self-efficacy, and instrumental readiness, while Indonesian students by self-efficacy. Implications toward university and government were discussed.
