Abstract

The objective of  this research was to determine appropriate variety combinations maize and mungbeans in multiple cropping system and the effect on yield, and also to determine Land Equivalency Ratio in the multiple cropping system. The experiment was conducted in Paso Village, Ambon City. A Randomized Block Design was used with two factors The first factor was maize variety consisting of 3 varieties: BISI-2 hybrid (J1), local variety with purple seeds (J2) and local variety with white seeds (J3). The second factor was mungbean variety, consisting of 3 varieties:  Murai variety (K1), local variety with red seeds (J2) and local variety with matt seeds (J3). Each treatment had three replicates and 6 monocultures were added as control.  Results of the experiment showed that maize variety and mungbeans variety affected significantly on growth and crop yield.  BISI-2 maize produced  highest seed number per row, 100 seed weight and seed weight per plot, and pod number per plant.  J1K1 treatment combination gave highest seed weight per hectare, i.e. 7,63 ton of maize and  0.73 ton/ha of mungbean seeds.  There was a significant effect of the interaction on Land Equivalency Ratio, and the highest value (4.07) was found in the treatment combination of J1K1

Abstract

Substituting a part of soil on tea Camellia Sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) nurseries by using organic matter could minimize the remove fertile soil from nature. Biofertilizing are a way to improve the biological quality of soil and subsequently tea seedling quality. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of planting media composition and biofertilizer doses on total fungal and bacterial population on planting media; as well as tea seedlings growth. The experiment was conducted using a randomized block design consisting of 9 treatments and 4 replications, each replication consisted of three plants. The treatment consisted of soil without biofertilizer (control), soil + 5% biofertilizer, soil + 10% biofertilizer, cocopeat without biofertilizer, cocopeat + 5% biofertilizer, cocopeat + 10% biofertilizer,  filter cake without biofertilizer, filter cake + 5% biofertilizer, and filter cake + 10% biofertilizer. Biofertilizer used in this experiment were Azotobacter vinelandii and Azotobacter chroococcum that was mixed with growing media before planting. Result of the experiment showed that planting media affect microbial populations differently. The population of total bacteria, total fungi and Azotobacter sp. in the filter cake media with 10% biofertilizer was significantly higher than those of other growing media. However, Azotobacter biofertilizer had no effect on seedling growth of tea (Camellia Sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) clones Gambung-7

Abstract

High population of inhabitans in watershed area is an important factor which increase watershed’s damage so that, proper land conservation should be done. Research in the watershed Wae Lela has been done to analyze the dominant factors causing soil erosion due to changes in land use, and determine the amount of erosion after land use change in the watershed. The research method was field survey with a synthetic approach pattern by using free surveys observation distance. This observation distance used according to the pattern of land use changes on certain land units, with the type of profile observations/boring. The study found that land use in the watershed Wae Lela has undergone considerable changes in the last 25 years between 1988-2013. Natural forest generally has been transformed to be used for landfarming. Fram planted with multiple cropping of cloves, nutmeg, coconut, tubers, vegetable was become less effective to prevent erosion. This change leads to increased erosion which mainly occurred in mixed farm area up to  6415.06 t/ha/year; covered an area of  220.6 ha or 26.2% of the research area.

Abstract

Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) which are comonly grown  in the highland with Andisols require organic and inorganic fertilizers to maintain soil health  and increase yield. The purpose of field experiment  was to obtain information on the effect of vermicompost with and without NPK fertilizer  on soil acidity,  soil phosphor (P) availability and P uptake in potatoes shoot; as well as yield and quality of tuber. The experimental design was a randomized block design with eight treatments and three replication. The treatment consisted of a combination of vermicompost doses (5 and 10 t/ha)  with NPK fertilizer doses (0; 0.5 t/ha and 1 t/ha). The two control treatments were 1) without fertilizer and 2) the method of fertilizing local farmers included 10 t /ha chicken manure and 1 t/ha NPK fertilizer. This experiment verified  that vermicompost and NPK fertilizer increased plant height as well as soil P availability and acidity compared to those of control. Vermicompost has not yet substitute chicken manure to obtain the same tuber production although the percentage of marketable tuber was quite similar.  Keywords : Andisols, NPK Fertilizer, Phosphorus, Potato, Vermicompost.

Abstract

The availability of soil in water is needed to run an everyday life, especially for living beings. The availability of groundwater is highly dependent on the good hydrological patterns, whereby if rain occurs with sufficient criteria then groundwater will be available as much as we need, but if the hydrological cycle becomes disrupted as a result of meteorological phenomena such as el nino then it will decrease water content in the soil. El nino phenomenon that occurred in 1997-1998 had a profound influence on the availability of groundwater, especially on the island of Ambon. Based on the analysis of water balance on the island of Ambon in 1997-1998, water deficit (drought) was so significant in the mid to late 1997 and in 1998. This certainly greatly affected the agricultural sector which is very dependent on the availability of water ground. The dynamics of the atmosphere has changed significantly, Both the government and the other correspond institution must anticipate the impact of water shortages on agriculture.
