Abstract

This study aims to examine whether the actions of educators in using discovery learning models can improve concentration and mathematics learning outcomes in the material of transformation in class IX D of one of the junior high schools in Magelang. This research is a participant class action research. While the models used are the Stephen Kemmis and Robin McTaggart Model. The subjects of this study were students of class IX D of one of the junior high schools in Magelang in the academic year 2018/2019. This research consists of two cycles, namely cycle 1 and cycle 2. The material provided in this study is a transformation topic that includes translation, reflection, rotation, and dilation. Data on the concentration of mathematics learning are obtained using observation sheets. Data on mathematics learning outcomes were obtained using a theory test sheet. The data obtained were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study show that: (1) learning using discovery learning  models can increase student learning concentration; (2) learning using discovery learning models can improve student learning outcomes; and (3) learning using discovery learning models can increase the concentration of learning and the learning outcomes of IX D students of junior high school.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the students’ confidence through the Numbered Head Together (NHT) learning model in learning mathematics in class VIII D of SMP N 3 Depok. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) using NHT model. The stages in this study consist of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects include 32 students. The data collection techniques used are a test, questionnaires, and observation. The data collection instruments used are written tests to measure the students’ cognitive learning outcomes, self-confidence questionnaire, and observation sheets to determine the feasibility of learning using the NHT technique. The data analysis technique uses percentages for the learning outcomes using observation sheets, data analysis of descriptive study completeness describing individual and group students’ outcomes, and scoring for self-confidence questionnaire using Likert scale with five criteria intervals. The results of the analysis of this research indicate that mathematics learning increases student confidence by 10.22%. The students’ outcomes (cognitive) have decreased, and one of them is the learning material that is more difficult than the cycle I. The basic competence for cycle I is to complete SPLDV (Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel) while for cycle II, the basic competence is to make and complete mathematical models of problems related to SPLDV. The implementation of learning using the NHT learning model has increased from 81.3% in the first cycle to 96.9% in the second one. It can be concluded that the NHT cooperative learning model is proven to improve the students’ confidence.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the type and percentage of errors that junior high school students do in solving math problems on the subject of the circles. This research is an expost facto research.  The population of this study is all students of grade VIII of one of the junior high schools in Purworejo as many as 182 students. Then by randomly selecting from the entire student, selected as many as 94 students as research samples. Research instruments are used in the form of diagnostic tests. Based on the results of the research, the students’ errors have done in solving math problems on the topic of circle are errors in comprehension (16,93%), transformation (27,39%), operation (26,30%), and drawing conclusion (71,55%). So, the most dominant error done by grade VIII students of one of the junior high schools in Purworejo is an error in the drawing of conclusions. Based on the results of this study, teachers need to design more effective learning to minimize the errors that occur, especially errors in drawing conclusions.

Abstract

The public key cryptosystem is an extension of an asymmetric key cryptosystem. The public key cryptosystems have been developed based on the concepts of matrix, polynomial and polynomial decomposition. In this study, we will introduce the public key cryptosystem over polynomial composition. This research is a literature study. The results show that the polynomial composition can be used in public-key cryptosystems by modifying special functions to apply commutative properties.

Abstract

Learning mathematics at the elementary school level is very important in planting basic concepts about the concepts being taught. One effective way of learning mathematics in planting these concepts is by using manipulative media. Based on the results of observations of researchers in class II C of Muhammadiyah Elementary School, Nitikan, Yogyakarta obtained: 1) mathematics learning rarely uses the media, 2) the subject of fractions is difficult material with marked results of the pretest only 53.1% who reach minimum completeness criterion. This study aims to describe learning using manipulative media to improve understanding of the subject matter of fractions. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The subjects of this study are class II C of Muhammadiyah Elementary School, Nitikan, amounting to 32 students. Data collection techniques used are observation and test. Data analysis in this classroom action research is quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The results showed the ability to understand the concept of mathematics in the first cycle is 62,5 % with good criteria and the second cycle is 78.1 %  with good criteria. The results of observations of the feasibility of using manipulative media in learning mathematics on the subject matter of fractions seen based on the activities of teachers and students during the learning process. Based on research that has been done, it can be concluded that the ability to understand mathematical concepts and student learning activities in class II C of SD Muhammadiyah Nitikan increases after the application of learning using manipulative media.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) find out the use of the Index Card Match method in mathematics; (2) determine the students’ ability of mathematics critical thinking with Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS); (3) determine whether there is an influence of the use of Index Card Match method to the students’ ability of mathematics critical thinking with HOTS. This study uses the pre-experimental method with one group for the pretest-posttest design. The population in this study was all students of Senior High School in Kadugede, Kuningan, West Java, totaling 1008 students. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The sample of this study was taken from two classes from class VII D as a control class with 37 students and class VII E as an experimental class with 38 students. The test instruments used were multiple-choice questions. Tests were given at the initial test (pretest) and final test (posttest). The testing data were analyzed using the independent samples t-test which has previously been tested for normality and homogeneity. The results of this study indicate: (1) the use of the Index Card Match method in mathematics learning in the experimental class was positively well and students looked serious and enthusiastic in following the teaching and learning process; (2) The students’ ability of mathematics critical thinking by using the Index Card Match method increased both in the experimental and control classes; (3) There was an influence of the use of the Index Card Match method in students' ability of mathematics critical thinking oriented to HOTS.
