Veritas: Jurnal Teologi dan Pelayanan is a peer-reviewed and open-access journal published semiannually (June and December) by Sekolah Tinggi Teologi SAAT (Southeast Asia Bible Seminary), Malang City, East Java, Indonesia. The journal specializes in evangelical theology that focuses on the novelty in biblical studies, systematic theology, and practical theology, contributing to theological studies and ecclesial ministry. Manuscripts submitted for publication in this journal include quantitative or qualitative field research findings, conceptual and critical studies, exegesis or exposition material, case studies, and other forms of original thought in the broad scope of theological research, supported with academic references that are adequate, robust, and accurate.

Abstract

This paper seeks a model of Christology that is non-anthropocentric and relevant in the current context. Roger Haight is chosen because he has a distinct way of etransecclesialsignificance of Jesus’ work of God's salvation through its relation to postmodern experiences that are interfaith and cross-cultural—hence, a “transdenominational Christology.” In line with his Christology, Haight’s ecclesiology project can also called “transdenominational ecclesiology,” which is an appreciative ecclesiological picture of what enlivens and moves, of a common framework and language for ecumenical dialogue, interaction with society and the world, and interfaith dialogue. Such a transdenominational Christology and ecclesiology encourages the Church to discover the presence of Christ in the particular context and realize its universality, and brings out the value of the public witness of the Church. From here, the author moves beyond Haight and develops a transecclesial Christology that becomes the basis for the Church to move, share, borrow, and theologize contextually, specifically in the context of relations with other religions, poverty, oppression, suffering, and ecological destruction.

Abstract

Peran orang tua dan teman sebaya dalam komitmen religius sangat penting. Remaja menghadapi banyak tantangan dalam berbagai tahap perkembangannya. Salah satu tantangan remaja, yaitu pertumbuhan iman dan relasi dengan Tuhan, juga menentukan identitas dan sudut pandangnya dalam hal iman, serta objektif dalam menilai keyakinan religius yang dianutnya. Peran orang tua dan teman sebaya dibutuhkan untuk membantu remaja menentukan komitmen religius. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kelekatan pada orang tua dan kelekatan pada teman sebaya dengan komitmen religius pada remaja Kristen. Penelitian ini melibatkan 310 remaja Kristen berusia 15-21 tahun dengan menggunakan purposive sampling. Perhitungan Spearmen Rank Correlation digunakan untuk menganalisis data dari skala The Religious Commitment Inventory-10 (RCI-10) dan Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan dan positif antara kelekatan pada ayah, ibu, maupun teman sebaya dengan komitmen religius pada remaja Kristen.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the theology of the Triune God from the perspective of Pentecostal theology. The hermeneutical key for exploring this theme begins with believers’ experience of the person and work of the Holy Spirit, which is inseparable from the work of the other two persons of the Trinity. This experience serves as the basis for critically and theologically examining and reflecting on the theology of the Triune God. The method employed in this article is an exploration of key teachings in Pentecostalism, such as pneumatological hermeneutics, the doctrine of the Full Gospel, and Spirit baptism, in order to explain the theology of the Triune God. Furthermore, the distinctive features of these teachings are brought into dialogue with selected biblical narratives, Patristic theology, and systematic theology in order to strengthen the teaching on the Triune God within Pentecostalism. The author’s thesis is that Pentecostal theology can uniquely contribute to the articulation of the theology of the Triune God through pneumatological hermeneutics, the doctrine of the Full Gospel, and the doctrine of Spirit baptism.

Abstract

This study aims to trace the history of the evangelical movement in Indonesia and its development leading up to the formation of the Indonesian Evangelical Fellowship (PII) in 1971. This study employs a historical method, in which the heuristic process of data collection was conducted through document analysis, literature review, and interviews, which were subsequently selected, interpreted, and presented in the written report. The results reveal that three factors shaped the evangelical movement in Indonesia. In addition to two internal dynamics—namely, the entry of evangelical mission agencies into Indonesia and the polarization of the mission movement at the global level—the consolidation of the evangelical movement in Indonesia was also influenced by an external factor: the political dynamics in Indonesia following 1965.

Abstract

Dalam bidang ilmu fenomenologi terkini, konsep subjek yang digagas oleh para peneliti fenomenologi awal, yaitu Husserl dan Heidegger, mendapatkan berbagai kritik dari para fenomenolog terkini. Bagi para fenomenolog terkini, konsep subjek pada Husserl dan Heidegger memiliki berbagai masalah sehingga tidak mampu untuk membawa subjek untuk memiliki eksistensi sejatinya. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan ini, Jean-Yves Lacoste mengajukan sebuah konsep subjek yang berfokus pada analisis terhadap present/presence (masa kini dan/atau kehadiran). Di dalam masa kini dan/atau kehadiran Lacoste menemukan eksistensi sejati manusia, yaitu ketika manusia berjumpa dengan Tuhan di dalam praktik doa, yaitu ketika subjek melepas seluruh determinasi dunia untuk bergerak menuju kepada Tuhan. Dan perjumpaan dengan Tuhan adalah definisi yang paling puncak dari sebuah eksistensi sejati. Oleh sebab itu, dengan menggunakan analisis subjek dari Lacoste maka penulis mengajukan sebuah konsep subjek yang dapat mengatasi permasalahan dari pemikiran Heidegger, yaitu yang penulis sebut dengan istilah manusia yang berdoa. Dengan berdoa maka subjek telah meninggalkan dunia dan bergerak kepada Tuhan. Dengan bergerak kepada Tuhan itulah maka subjek telah memiliki eksistensi sejatinya.

Abstract

Regulations regarding abortion have undergone significant changes since the enactment of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, which contains provisions regarding the criminalization of abortion. There is an exception to the criminalization of abortion for victims of rape and sexual violence up to 14 weeks of pregnancy. The new context of these regulations presents specific pastoral and theological challenges. Through biblical, church history, and theological studies examining the Christian stance on abortion, this article proposes how the Christian faith can maintain its consistency in addressing the issue of abortion, namely, a high regard for the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception. The author also provides practical recommendations based on Christian bioethics, serving as an initial proposal for Protestant-Evangelical churches and communities in Indonesia in addressing this issue.
