Abstract

The purposes of this research were to determine the patterns and forms of communications and attitude of farmers in agricultural extension. This research was conducted from May to July 2019 in Mugirejo Urban Village, Sungai Pinang Subcity, Samarinda City. The number of respondents was 34 farmers. The data analysis method used is descriptive analysis. The results of research showed that the pattern of communication between agricultural extension worker and farmers in agricultural extension in Mugirejo is in the moderate category with a score of 37.96 in terms of four indicators, namely intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, and mass indicators. The form of communication is included in the good category in terms of four indicators, namely the communication forms of face-to-face, media, verbal and non-verbal. The attitude of farmers in agricultural extension to the patterns and forms of communication is categorized as sufficient in terms of three indicators, namely conative, cognitive, and affective.

Abstract

The success of agricultural efforts depends on the competency of farmers as primary organizers. Characteristics related to competencies such as farmer education level, farmer age, financing, and institutional participation. The purposes of this research were to identify the characteristics of ginger farmer and to analyze the feasibility of ginger farming in North Sumatera. This research used secondary data. Descriptive analysis was a method of analysis used in research. The results of identifying show that characteristics of ginger farmers in North Sumatera were as much as 61.76% being at the age of 25 to 54 years, 55.24% of ginger farmers completed education until junior level, 96.79% of ginger farmers financed their own farming activities, 95.06% of farmers sold their products to the collector merchants, and the involvement of farmers in agricultural institutions were very small. Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C Ratio) of ginger in North Sumatera is 1.97, meaning that each expenditure of IDR1,00 then the ginger farmer will get a receipt of IDR1.97. This shows that ginger farming is viable and beneficial to be cultivated. Maximizing agricultural extension role as one of the efforts to increase the income and welfare of ginger farmers in North Sumatera.

Abstract

Adoption of agricultural technology is one indicator of the success of extension activities. This study aimed to determine the level of adoption of wetland paddy farmers to Integrated Crop Management (ICM) technology from technical and non-technical aspects. This research was conducted from October to December 2019, in Jembayan Tengah Village, Loa Kulu Subregency, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. The sampling method used simple random sampling. The number of samples was 38 wetland paddy farmers. The data analysis was done by using descriptive method. The research results showed the level of adoption of wetland paddy farmers to ICM technology from the technical aspect in the high category with an average score of 120.29 and from the non-technical aspects in the high category with an average score of 58.47. In general, the adoption rate of wetland paddy farmers towards PPT technology is in the high category with an average score of 178.76.

Abstract

Perception is a direct response of something. The process of a person knows things through his five senses. This study aimed to determine paddy farmers perceptions on the role of agricultural extension worker and Gapoktan in Bukit Raya Village, Tenggarong Seberang Subregency, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. This study collected primary data and secondary data. Sampling used purposive method and number of samples of 40 respondents. Data were analyzed by descriptive. The results of this study showed farmers perception on the role of field agriculture instructure has a total score of 3,551 and it is classified as good. While farmers perception on the role of Gapoktan has a total score of 1,706 and it is classified as good.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to determine the cost, revenue, and profit of fruit seedling marketing and the feasibility of marketing business of fruit seedling at the CV. Flora Chania in Palaran Subcity, Samarinda City. This research was conducted during 3 months from March to May 2019. The data were collected secondary data. The analysis included calculation of cost, revenue, profit, Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Net Benefit Cost Ratio (Net B/C Ratio), dan payback period. The research results showed an average operational cost of IDR248,945,720.00 year-1 or IDR20,745,477.00 month-1, an average revenue of IDR349,900,000.00 year-1 or IDR29,083,333.00 month-1 and the average income of IDR100,818,566.00 year-1 or IDR8,326,547.00 month-1. This research found  the NPV value of IDR37,464,538.00 at a factor discount rate of 10%, IRR value of 4.6%, Net B/C Ratio value of 1.32, while the payback period of 1 year and 4 months. The results of this research  indicate that based on an assessment of technical aspect, management and legal aspects, market and marketing aspects, and financial aspect, the marketing of fruit seedling is feasible to be developed.

Abstract

Hydroponic provides solutions for cultivated agriculture on narrow land. It begins to be done by people of Tanjung Redeb that live in urban area to utilize land for mustard hydroponic farming. Mustard is chosen because it has a lot of enthusiasts and has high selling price. This research aimed to know the production cost, revenue, profit, and feasibility of hidroponic vegetable farming of mustard. This research was conducted in Tanjung Redeb Subregency, Berau Regency. This research took a sample of 15 respondents who actively work on hydroponic farming. The research results showed that the production cost incurred for hidroponic vegetable farming of mustard in a year with a frequency of 10 harvests was IDR116,990,975.00 or an average of IDR7,799,397.00 respondent-1. Hydroponic vegetable farming of mustard is profitable with value R/C ratio of 6.60 with the average revenue and profit in a year per respondent were IDR51,483,333.00 and IDR43,683,936.00, respectively.

Abstract

The success of upland rice farming in increasing farmers' income requires high participation in farming management in order to provide optimal results. The purposes of this study were to determine the socio-economic characteristics of farmers, to analyze farming, to determine farmer participation, and to analyze the factors that determine the participation of Dayak Kenyah farmers in upland rice farming. This research was conducted in Long Anai and Sungai Bawang Villages, Kutai Kartanegara District. The characteristics of upland rice farming of the Dayak Kenyah tribe in terms of gender, age, education level, number of family dependents, land area, and income. Upland rice farmers of Dayak Kenyah tribe still apply cultural customs in most stages of upland rice farming. The level of community participation was high and is at the partnership stage. The factors that determine the participation of Dayak Kenyah tribe farmers in upland rice farming are culture, ideas, labor, working time, and farming capital.
