Gas sensing technology has become topical research work for quite some time and we also want to protect our home asserts from any kind of hazards. In this work we take an overview on how to protect our home from fire and its safety issues based on wireless sensor network using wifi and cloud technologies. It also showcases the research done on the detection mechanism of leakage of domestic cooking gas at ambient condition. It can detect the fire, leakage of gas or smoke and sends an auto-generated email remotely to intimate the owner. We survey and examine the existing work in security system and its applications.

Providing patients with convenient health facilities at a low cost has always been a great challenge for health service providers. Moreover, the fast changing life style of the modern world and the problem of aging society pose an urgent need to modernize such facilities. The emphasis has to be paid on providing health monitoring in out-of-hospital conditions for elderly people and patients who require regular supervision, particularly in remote areas. This paper presents a recommendation algorithm, which incorporates collaboration and classification techniques in order to generate recommendations and suggestions for the physical activities that the users should carry out in order to improve their health. The algorithm has been evaluated using generic data and considering the daily food intake. The results of the experimental evaluation show that the algorithm is robust and could suggest the physical activities that might compensate the influence of the food intake over the blood glucose level.

In this work Predestination of Particles Wavering Search (PPS) algorithm has been applied to solve optimal reactive power problem. PPS algorithm has been modeled based on the motion of the particles in the exploration space. Normally the movement of the particle is based on gradient and swarming motion. Particles are permitted to progress in steady velocity in gradient-based progress, but when the outcome is poor when compared to previous upshot, immediately particle rapidity will be upturned with semi of the magnitude and it will help to reach local optimal solution and it is expressed as wavering movement. In standard IEEE 14, 30, 57,118,300 bus systems Proposed Predestination of Particles Wavering Search (PPS) algorithm is evaluated and simulation results show the PPS reduced the power loss efficiently.

The technique for compressioning the Images has been increasing because the fresh images need large amounts of disk space. It is seems to be a big disadvantage during transmission & storage of image. Even though there are so many compression technique already presents and have better technique which is faster, memory efficient and simple, and friendly with the requirements of the user. In this paper we proposed the method for image compression and decompression using a simple coding technique called Huffman coding and show why this is more efficient then other technique. This technique is simple in implementation and utilizes less memory compression to other. A software algorithm has been developed and implemented to compress and decompress the given image using Huffman coding techniques in a MATLAB platform.

Iris recognition is one of the most accurate identification method and it is powerful for secure of information and identification between users. The Ridge Energy Direction (RED) algorithm is the most accurate and fast approach for iris recognition. The RED algorithm reduces the effects of illumination, since only direction is used. The RED algorithm is applied after a normalization process consisting on two filter types (horizontal and vertical). This paper extends this algorithm by considering the lower portion of the iris because this portion is affected with less noise. We used different size of RED filter on Iris in order to compare the accuracy and time between them. We found that the higher filter size gives more accuracy but more processing time

In this paper, we present an automatic application of 3D face recognition system using geodesic distance in Riemannian geometry. We consider, in this approach, the three dimensional face images as residing in Riemannian manifold and we compute the geodesic distance using the Jacobi iterations as a solution of the Eikonal equation. The problem of solving the Eikonal equation, unstructured simplified meshes of 3D face surface, such as tetrahedral and triangles are important for accurately modeling material interfaces and curved domains, which are approximations to curved surfaces in R3. In the classifying steps, we use: Neural Networks (NN), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) and Support Vector Machines (SVM). To test this method and evaluate its performance, a simulation series of experiments were performed on 3D Shape REtrieval Contest 2008 database (SHREC2008).

A low-cost and simple distributed sensors model that is particularly suitable for measuring eye blink of the driver, accident and hand position on a steering wheel. These sensors can be used in automotive active safety systems that aim at detecting driver’s fatigue, a major issue to prevent road accidents. The key point of this approach is to design a prototype of sensor units, so that it can serve as platform for integrating different kinds of sensors into the steering wheel. Since the sensors are attached to the steering wheel, therefore they can’t be detached by the driver. It will also detect dangerous stylish driving which may lead to fatal accidents. The major drawback is that the eye blink sensors frame worn by the driver can be removed causing the sensor non-operational. The outcome is that the vibrator attached to eye blink sensor’s frame vibrates if the driver shuts his eyes for approximately 3 seconds and also the LCD displays the respective warning message. The wheel is slowed or stopped depending on the condition. This is accompanied by the vehicle’s owner being notified through the GSM module, so the owner can retrieve the driver’s location, photograph and a list of nearby police stations through an android mobile application. Therefore, driver can be alerted during drowsiness and the owner can be notified simultaneously.

In LTE-Advanced, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) has been selected as the multiple access scheme for downlink and single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) for uplink. OFDM is an attractive modulation technique in a cellular environment to combat frequency selective fading channels with a relatively low- complexity receiver. However, OFDM requires an expensive and inherently inefficient power amplifier in the transmitter due to the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the multicarrier signal. This paper, presents the main components of LTE-Advanced including the all the details of Uplink (SC-FDMA) and Downlink (OFDMA). Also this paper clarifies the main reasons of using SC-FDMA in uplink and using OFDMA in downlink only, in order to obtain flexible mobile communication technology.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ij-ict.v1i1.557

In today’s world there are many disabled persons who find it difficult to perform movements or perform daily activities. This types of persons are mainly dependent on others for their assistance. But they can become self-independent and perform some daily activities on their own with the help of assistive devices. The most widely used assistive devices are Wheelchairs. Wheelchairs is basically a chair fitted with wheels, which can help people move around who cannot walk because of illness, disability or injury. But there are many disabled people with weak limbs and joints who cannot move the wheelchair. Thus, Smart Wheelchair can benefit a lot to them and everyone in society. Smart Wheelchairs are electric powered wheelchairs with many extra components such as a computer and sensors which help the user or guardian accompanying wheelchair to handle it easily and efficiently. The recent development in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Sensor technologies and Robotics help the growth of wheelchairs with new features. This paper is to review the current state of art of Smart Wheelchairs and discuss the future research in this field.

One of the major difficulties in face recognition system is an in-depth pose verification problem. Face recognition is a broad area of research over the last 25 years. However, the field is highly unsolved, largely due to variations in pose, illumination and expression. In this paper, a Ternary based Angle Oriented Face Recognition algorithm is proposed. In this algorithm, the data is made into two clusters namely, Clock wise and Anti-clock wise rotations using Fuzzy method. The image is extracted using angle oriented DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) that invokes certain normalization techniques. Face Matching is compared to the technique of k-means. Based on Image Recognition pattern, the reliability of clusters is studied using Nelson model. The experimental results are verified.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ij-ict.v2i1.1779
