Abstract

Energy efficiency of mobile network is always a challenging task. From the past decade, it is observable that the users who are using multimedia services are increasing in rapid way. These multimedia applications require higher data rates. High data rates will consume more energy of mobile network, which results poor energy efficiency. To meet higher data rates and to achieve energy efficiency, Cognitive Mobile Network with small cell model was explained in this paper. Dynamics of the power grid also have significant impact on mobile networks, hence smart grid implementation was proposed instead of traditional power grid. Most of the existed studies on cognitive mobile network focussed on spectrum sensing only. This paper focussed on cognitive radio network implementation by considering spectrum sensing and smart grid environment. An iterative algorithm was proposed to attain equillibrium condition to the problem. Interference management and energy efficient power allocation were achieved with the introduction of smart grid. Simulation results proved that optimum power allocation and energy efficiency are possible with the introduction of smart grid in cognitive network.

Abstract

In this work, we present an economic model of computer networks that describes the in-teraction between Internet Service Providers (ISP ), customers and content provider. The competition between ISP s may be translated by the prices they require and the qualities of service (QoS) they offer. The customer demand for service from an ISP does not only de-pend on the price and quality of service (QoS) of the ISP , but it is influenced by all those offered by its competitors. This behavior has been extensively analyzed using game the-ory as a decision support tool. We interpret a non-neutral network when a content provider privileges ISP s by offering them more bandwidth to ensure proper QoS to support ap-plications that require more data transport capacity (voice over internet protocol (V OIP ) the live video streaming, online gaming). In addition, our work focuses on the price game analysis and QoS between ISP s in two cases: neutral network and non-neutral network. After showing the existence and uniqueness of equilibrium in terms of quality of service, we analyzed the impact of net neutrality on competition between ISP s. We also validated our theoretical study with numerical results, which show that the game has an equilibrium point which depends on all the parameters of the system.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to measure the security and related verification method in requirements engineering (RE). There are a few existing approaches to measure RE performance like IEEE Software Requirements Specification (SRS) and Security Quality Requirements Engineering (SQUARE). However, these existing approaches have some limitations such as lack of flexibility and require long implementation period. In order to address these issues, this paper intends to propose a new set of tools. First is the Effective Security Check List (ESCL), which is a check list with security questions that should be considered for measuring security. Secondly, the Traceability Matrix(TM), which is a two dimensional matrix to measure security during RE. Thirdly, Requirement Engineering Assessment Document (READ), which is a tool containing all statistical information about security performance during RE.  The combination of presented approaches had been implemented in a case study. The outcome results are encouraging and illustrated integrated outcomes within existing RE model. The security level had also been properly measured.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ij-ict.v1i2.695

Abstract

As the diary industries delivery the milk to consumer bottles in pouches the thickness of the milk is varied with each company. The microwave transmission line approach with horn antenna is introduced as an effective method for the assessment of milk for the first time with different frequency. The electrical permittivity is an intrinsic parameter of a material that can be used as an index of delivered water content. For the permittivity calculation, we use horn antenna transmitter and receiver in microwave frequency .The microwave travelled via the milk according to its thickness. A design of horn antenna and its minimum distance transmission length is followed to evaluate the thickness of milk. The dissipated power is calculated with the help of VSWR meter in decibel. The results are plotted with different microwave frequency with unique wave length with unique concentration of water with milk. Mat lab is used to plot the graph. The effects exhibit that the milk thickness makes the wave travel of microwave produces the decibel value changes at the output. The measurements demonstrate that the permittivity of milk increases with increased added water. A relationship between the added water content and the permittivity of milk -water mixture is established, which should be a powerful tool for detecting milk thickness.

Abstract

In wireless communication systems (WCS), channel characteristics are random and unpredictable. The resultant effect of the randomness is the multipath effect that leads to multipath fading. Multipath fading is a major contributor to the unreliability of wireless communication links. In this paper, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO) schemes were investigated in mitigating the effect of signal fading. Space-time coded MIMO-OFDM was developed to enhance the performance of the WCS. The performance of the developed space-time coded MIMO-OFDM over both flat and frequency selective channels were compared with that of conventional WCS. The simulation results show that the space-time coded MIMO-OFDM considerably reduced the effect of multipath fading in WCS with improved bit error rate (BER) value.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ij-ict.v2i2.2014

Reasonable effort should be made to remove all past references to this paper. The presenting author of this paper has the option to appeal this decision by contacting info@iaesjournal.com.-----------------------------------------------------------------------There is a huge content of Arabic text available over online that requires an organization of these texts. As result, here are many applications of natural languages processing (NLP) that concerns with text organization. One of the is text classification (TC). TC helps to make dealing with unorganized text. However, it is easier to classify them into suitable class or labels. This paper is a survey of Arabic text classification. Also, it presents comparison among different methods in the classification of Arabic texts, where Arabic text is represented a complex text due to its vocabularies. Arabic language is one of the richest languages in the world, where it has many linguistic bases. The research in Arabic language processing is very few compared to English. As a result, these problems represent challenges in the classification, and organization of specific Arabic text. Text classification (TC) helps to access the most documents, or information that has already classified into specific classes, or categories to one or more classes or categories. In addition, classification of documents facilitate search engine to decrease the amount of document to, and then to become easier to search and matching with queries.

Abstract

The  advent  of  new  Information  and  Communication Technologies (ICTs) poses several challenges for its use and adoption particularly for teaching and learning   purposes   in most   Higher   Educational  Institutions (HEIs). Understanding the criteria to use and how to measure success are some of the challenges   faces   by   most departments   of   Architecture   in   Nigerian Universities. Thus,  this  paper  has  attempted to  address  these challenges  by proposing an evaluation framework for the adoption of new ICTs in tertiary institutions  of  learning  with particular interest  in  Architectural  education. Baseline information  collected  from the  department  of  architecture in  five different  Nigerian  Universities was  used  to  identify the  major  constraints encountered  in  Information and Communication  Technologies  adoption  in Architectural education and the best approach that will promote better rate of Information Technology (IT) adoption. The major contribution of the study is that  the  proposed framework can  be  used  to  interpret  specific  results  as  to whether the use  of  technology  within  a  particular  literacy  program led  to improved learning,  and  provide  a  better understanding  of  such  results  in larger contexts  and various  aspects  of  other  issues  related  to evaluation, access, and literacy learning in Architectural education.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ij-ict.v2i3.5285

Abstract

The increasing need for data driven decision making recently has resulted in the application of data mining in various fields including the educational sector which is referred to as educational data mining. The need for improving the performance of data mining models has also been identified as a gap for future researcher. In Nigeria, higher educational institutions collect various students’ data, but these data are rarely used in any decision or policy making to improve the academic performance of students. This research work, attempts to improve the performance of data mining models for predicting students’ academic performance using stacking classifiers ensemble and synthetic minority over-sampling techniques. The research was conducted by adopting and evaluating the performance of J48, IBK and SMO classifiers. The individual classifiers models, standard stacking classifier ensemble model and stacking classifiers ensemble model were trained and tested on 206 students’ data set from the faculty of science federal university Dutse. Students’ specific previous academic performance records at Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and first year Cumulative Grade Point Average of students are used as data inputs in WEKA 3.9.1 data mining tool to predict students’ graduation classes of degrees at undergraduate level. The result shows that application of synthetic minority over-sampling technique for class balancing improves all the various models performance with the proposed modified stacking classifiers ensemble model outperforming the various classifiers models in both performance accuracy and RSME values making it the best model.

Abstract

The article reports on our work in conducting performance measurement for the management of Information Technology (IT) by applying the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) at Mulawarman University, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The results of this study are then used to propose a hybrid framework that applies both BSC and a artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in order to measure the performance of IT governance generally. This article also examines BSC’s abilities and its flexibility compared to other methods in measuring the performance of IT governance. The proposed hybrid framework is expected to yield a management that produces a scorecard measures that are more rigorous, accurate and consistent with the objectives and organizational strategies in non-profit organizations, especially educational ones.
