Abstract

This article proposes a nine-level switched capacitor inverter (NLSCI) with a minimum number of switches. In recent years, switching capacitor (SC) multilevel inverters (MLIs) have become one of the most common inverter topologies. These proposed nine level switched capacitor inverter (NLSCI) do not deserve any external control unit for capacitor control. Since, the charging and discharging of the capacitors are controlled by the on and off states of switches. Furthermore, by employing fewer switches and DC voltage sources, the suggested design produces a greater amount of resultant voltage. Additionally, pulse width modulation (PWM) is recommended as a method to enhance output quality and power level quality. The switched-capacitor two-output multilevel inverter (SCMLI) structure's viability and effectiveness have been demonstrated using MATLAB simulation.

Abstract

This paper aims to present a novel trans-cutanaeous, wireless and an efficient radio frequency (RF) inductive power and data link (IPDL) based on amplitude shift key (ASK) - modulator with an efficient ‘Class-E’– RF ‘power amplifier’ that is applicable to implantable medical devices (IMDs). The IPDL system comprises an external device placed on exterior to human skin to transmitting power and data to IMDs like implantable micro-systems (cardiac pacemakers, cochlear implants, retinal implants, deep brain stimulators) to excite and monitor respective neural and muscular system. The entire system is designed to operate with a ‘low-band-frequency’ of 4 MHz by avoiding the problem of tissue heating. A practical model for the IPDL with results is presented. Various graphs such as frequency vs primary coil/secondary coil output are plotted and shown. Typical specifications of the exterior device, namely, the modulation-index (MI) and the modulation-rate (MR) are 40% and 4.3% respectively with a data rate of 172 Kbps. The design is simulated with electronic workbench MULTISIM 12.0 and TINA Ver 9.

Abstract

This article examines a modified multilevel inverter circuit that uses basic units connected in cascade. The suggested circuit can be used with an inverter that is symmetrical or asymmetric. The magnitude of the DC voltage source is determined using a variety of methods in order to generate a large number of voltage levels. For both symmetrical and asymmetrical configurations, the magnitude of two DC sources in basic units can be used. The DC voltage source's magnitude is the same for each unit in the symmetrical configuration. However, in an asymmetrical configuration, the value of the DC source for the fundamental units is inequitable, and their magnitudes are obtained using various techniques. Comparison study demonstrates that the suggested circuit requires minimum components, reduces power loss, and boosts inverter efficiency. Additionally, in comparison to modern topologies, the standing voltage across the switches is acceptable. To verify the effectiveness of the investigated topology, simulation results for 15, 17, 23, and 31-level inverters are analysed.

Abstract

Fully controlled rectifier and BCR. The battery charge regulator (BCR) is the most important unit of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) device. The BCR uses a 15 V/5 A transformer to lower the voltage so as not to overload the BCR components. Full control using four thyristors serves to supply voltage to the BCR, while the BCR serves to regulate battery charging. Forcing the battery to be charged at a constant voltage with the same current results in shorter battery life. Battery charging through the BCR is set to match the battery voltage, then allowing the BCR to control it by adjusting the phase voltage to 13.5 V for high voltage discharge (HVD) and 10.5 V for low voltage discharge (LVD). By using an IC Regulator combined with a relay as a voltage breaker for a fully charged battery, it will automatically disconnect to avoid overcharging the battery. Based on the performance test results of a fully controlled rectifier system using thyristors and BCR on a 12V/5Ah battery, the output voltage is as a fully controlled 12 V rectifier, the BCR switch can charge the internal battery in minutes with a current that varies between 2.1 A to 0.1 A.

Abstract

Converting conventional AC radial shipboard distribution system to DC system has been recognized as a potential high impact solution to reduce ship’s fuel consumption. As big ships in Indonesia commonly use low voltage AC (LVAC) distribution system an effort to apply low voltage direct current (LVDC) distribution system without replace the propulsion system is a plausible choice. However, technical and economical investigations are required before recommendation to convert the shipboard distribution system to LVDC is officially launched. In this study, technical aspect in the term of short-circuit current is discussed. The goal of this study is to analyze how much the impact on the short-circuit current when LVDC system replaces LVAC system. The impact may affect the feasibility of LVDC system as the short-circuit current in a system dictate the scheme and capacity of the protection devices. Numerical simulations on a sample vessel are performed to obtain the profile of maximum short-circuit currents on all panels. The results show that the utilization of LVDC system decreases the short-circuit current by 10 times. Further investigations on the economic aspect needs to be performed to give clearer view of the feasibility of the LVDC system.

Abstract

This paper presents a stepper motor drive using the hybrid two-phase model. The stepper motor changes the pulse signals into angular displacement with some angles. Stepper motors are used to control the speed and are also more reliable for smooth operations. The stepper motor provides constant holding torque with controlled speed ranges from 0 to 6000 range. The closed-loop control technique with park transformation is used to control the speed torque variables in a design range. The simulation and hardware results were discussed in MATLAB\Simulink software. The verified simulation results are motor source voltage, motor source current, motor speed, and torque. The hardware results are also implemented in this paper, the implemented circuit by using Arduino microcontroller.

Abstract

This article employs a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) to investigate voltage stability in a PV-based DC microgrid. Several photovoltaic (PV) modules, a DC-DC converter, and loads make up the microgrid. Due to the widespread use of intermittent PV power, voltage stability is a crucial problem for DC microgrids and is difficult to accomplish. This study proposes an FLC-based voltage control technique that leverages input factors including PV output power, DC-DC converter duty cycle, and load current to identify the best course of action for preserving the system's voltage stability. The FLC's performance is assessed by simulation, and it is meant to be resilient to parameter fluctuations and uncertainties. The simulation results demonstrate that the suggested FLC-based control strategy successfully maintains the microgrid's voltage stability under a variety of operational circumstances, including changing solar irradiance and load variations. Moreover, the FLC performs better than other control methods.

Abstract

An efficient machine learning approach for accomplishing the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system for photovoltaic (PV) systems is proposed in this work. PV system is one of the most suitable renewable energy sources (RES) for electric vehicles (EV) based operations due to its ubiquitous availability and speed of installation. The deployment of PV-powered EVs reduces the quantity of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere substantially. The primary objective of this research is to integrate a PV system with an EV load and to provide a constant power supply to the EV load with no distortions. A coupled inductor interleaved boost converter is used to raise voltage level of the PV because it has a wide conversions range with low leakage reaction times. Furthermore, the converter produces a consistent output with no fluctuations and high voltage gain. With the application of artificial neural network (ANN) based MPPT and recurrent neural network (RNN) based MPPT, the converter operational performance enhanced with steady dc link voltage is obtained. Consequently, it is stated that the employment of ANN and RNN-based MPPT controllers in PV-based systems offers improved DC link voltage regulation and lower power losses, thereby boosting system effectiveness. The MATLAB platform is used to test every component of the system's performance, and the findings show that the proposed system is more efficient than alternative approaches.

Abstract

The rapidly growing dispersion of distributed generation systems into the utility grid needs appropriate control techniques to stay interconnected even under abnormal and distorted grid conditions to ensure the overall grid stability. To avoid the loss of renewable energy sources (RES) based power generation, the disintegration of RES with respect to synchronization issues must be prohibited for efficient operation. RES control highly relies on the synchronization technique as it is faster and accurate enough to detect the utility grid variables in terms of amplitude, phase, and frequency. Mostly, the phase-locked loop (PLL) synchronization schemes are utilized for control of RES and monitoring of grid voltage. The dynamics of the grid side converter (GSC) is directly influenced by the performance and design criteria of the PLLs. This paper proposes an overall review of the performances of three phase PLL based grid synchronization methods under diverse weak grid conditions.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel hybrid cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (HCHB MLI) designed to address the growing importance of multilevel inverters in the context of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and fuel cells. The proposed topology features eight insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) switches and utilizes two distinct input direct current (DC) sources: a battery and a capacitor, making it a hybrid system. The control strategy employed in this topology is based on fundamental switching frequency techniques. Simulation results of the proposed topology are conducted using MATLAB/Simulink software, while hardware experimentation with a single-phase H-bridge inverter is also demonstrated in the paper. For pulse generation and IGBT switch control, an Arduino UNO microcontroller is utilized. The output voltage of the single-phase H-bridge inverter is verified through experimentation using a cathode-ray oscilloscope (CRO).
