Abstract

Abstract: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s eloquence as an orator is widely recognized all over the world and his rhetorical strategies have been subject to many studies. However, very few studies have looked into his use of metaphor as an effective cognitive device and communication strategy. Hence, this paper, drawing upon Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) Conceptual Metaphor Theory, provides a metaphorical analysis of his Nobel Prize acceptance speech (1964), which is among his most popular and influential speeches in the history, to understand the way ‘peace’ is perceived by him and conveyed to the audience. The findings of this study reveal that this speech is highly metaphorical, which seems to be one of the reasons of its popularity and effectiveness. The findings of the study also reveal that, while King is considered both as a political and religious leader, ‘peace’ is dominantly framed from a religious perspective via metaphors of ‘light’ and ‘journey’, positioning him as a religious rather than political leader. Furthermore, it is argued that the use of dualistic image-making as one of his discursive strategies makes his metaphors more impactful. For instance, while Peace is portrayed as Light, lack of Peace is portrayed as Darkness; and while Peace is portrayed as an Upward Movement, lack of Peace is portrayed as a Downward Movement. Finally, accompanying metaphorical words with adjectives (for instance, employing adjectives of ‘dark’, ‘starless’, and ‘long’ for the metaphorical ‘night’) gives a more emphatic tone to his metaphors.     Keywords: Martin Luther King Jr.; Metaphor Analysis; Nobel Peace Prize; Peace; Religious discourse.

Abstract

أدى وضع جائحة فيروس كورونا إلى فقدان العديد من الأرواح بسبب الإصابة بفيروس كورونا إندونيسيا هي إحدى الدول التي سيكون لها تأثير على جائحة فيروس كورونا الذي يسبب الخوف والقلق وحتى القلق لدى الجميع. ينشأ هذا القلق لأن فيروس كورونا ينتقل بسهولة إلى الجميع بحيث تصبح مشاعرنا خائفة من الالتقاء والالتقاء بالآخرين لأنه لا يوجد ضمان بأن الأشخاص الذين نلتقي بهم ليسوا مصابين بـفيروس كورونا. في هذه الدراسة ، نناقش ونفحص دور عبادة الذكر من أجل التغلب على القلق بشأن جائحة فيروس كورونا وتقليله. هذا الوضع الوبائي في الواقع يتطلب اهتمامًا خاصًا بحيث يركز هذا البحث على التعامل مع زيادة المناعة الفردية بحيث يمكن أن تقلل وحتى تمنع القلق والخوف المستمرين ، أي من خلال أنشطة الذكرى حيث تصبح هذه الذكرى نشاطًا روتينيًا في مجلس الأمين. تعاليم كيبانجين منذ وباء كوفيد -19. يستخدم هذا البحث نهجًا نوعيًا مع البيانات المأخوذة من المقابلات والملاحظات والتوثيق. تمت عملية جمع البيانات على شكل مقابلات وملاحظات وتوثيق لقيادة مجلس التعليم وأعضاء جماعة الأمين كيبانجين الذكر وأنشطة الذكر والمستندات المطلوبة تواصل جميع المصلين تقريبًا في إحياء الذكرى في مسجد الأمين أداء عبادة الذكر والتي تتم في محاولة لزيادة الإيمان والاستسلام وطلب المساعدة فيما يتعلق بتفشي جائحة فيروس كورونا الذي تعاني منه إندونيسيا. يعتقد أن الذكر قادر على تهدئة القلب في التعامل مع المشاكل التي نواجهها. هذا ما يفعله عامة الناس في كيبانجين لدرء حالة الجائحة الحالية والتعامل معها. أن الذكر جهد روحي يمكن الاستفادة منه. يجب التعامل مع هذا الوباء بهدوء ولكن مع الاستمرار في الانتباه إلى البروتوكولات الصحية من خلال ارتداء الأقنعة والحفاظ على مسافة والابتعاد عن الزحام. الحذر المفرط يؤدي إلى خوف مفرط وعميق مما يؤدي إلى تدهور الحالة الصحية والمناعة. عندما ينخفض جهاز المناعة في الجسم ، من السهل الإصابة بفيروس كورونا. لذلك ، فإن ما يفعله مجتمع كفانحين ، بالإضافة إلى الحفاظ على الصحة من خلال الالتزام بالبروتوكولات الصحية والابتعاد عن الزحام ، فإن الأشياء الأخرى التي يجب القيام بها هي الذكر كمحاولة للتقرب من الله وطلب المساعدة لتجنب المرض والفيروس- 19 حتى أن الوباء سرعان ما انتقل من العالم وخاصة من إندونيسيا الكلمات الأساسية: الذكر، مجلس التعليم، فيروس كورونا.
