Abstract

Spiders are dominant predators and have an important role not only in ricefield ecosystem, but also in agroecosystem  in general. The complexity of landscape structure is expected to have an important role to the availability of spiders in ecosystem.  Aim of this research were mapped agricultural landscape in Cianjur Watershed and to study the influence of landscape structure complexity to the diversity of spider in the landscape. Research was conducted at agricultural landscape in Cianjur Watershed, i.e: upper part (Nyalindung Village), middle part (Gasol Village) and  lower part (Selajambe Village), from January to September 2003. Agricultural landscape in Cianjur Watershed were mapped by using Global Positioning System (GPS), Arc View GIS 3.2. computer program, and Digital Indonesian Land Use and Topographical Map from Bakosurtanal. These instruments were used to make a new map which consist of information of land use system. Spider in agricultural landscape were sampled by using two trapping techniques, i.e: pitfall trap and sweep net. The results showed that landscape structure at upper part of Cianjur Watershed is more complex than that of at midlle and lower part. The diversity of spider at upper part of Cianjur Watershed was also higher than that of middle and lower part. Thus, the complexity of landscape structure significantly influence to the diversity of spiders in the agricultural landscape.

Abstract

The Nypha Palm Worm Namalycastis rhodochorde has been used as bait for fishing in Pontianak. Culturing the worm is one potential effort for its commercialization as well as to overcome the overexploitation of the worm which also brings about the degradation of its natural habitat. Samples of the worm were collected from mangrove forest area in Sungai Kakap, West Kalimantan. Fresh sample of gametes from coelomic fluid were observed carefully under compound microscope to determine phase of gamete development. Oogenesis consisted of three consecutive stages namely immature, submature, and mature with ≤40 μm, 40<x<120 μm, and ≥120 μm in diameter, respectively. The spermatogenesis phases consisted of, spermatogonia, spermatid tetrad and spermatozoa.

Abstract

Fuzzy time series is a dynamic process with linguistic values as its observations. Modelling fuzzy time series data developed by some researchers used discrete membership functions and table lookup method from training data. This paper presents a new method to modelling fuzzy time series data combining table lookup and singular value decomposition methods using continuous membership functions. Table lookup method is used to construct fuzzy relations from training data. Singular value decomposition of firing strength matrix and QR factorization are used to reduce fuzzy relations. Furthermore, this method is applied to forecast inflation rate in Indonesia based on six-factors one-order fuzzy time series. This result is compared with neural network method and the proposed method gets a higher forecasting accuracy rate than the neural network method.

Abstract

This research intends to study a new approach VAR-GSTAR (Vector Autoregressive-General Space-Time Autoregressive) model for forecasting seasonal multivariate time series. The parameters of the model are estimated by Least Squares method. In this research, we also derive the asymptotic properties of the parameter estimator, which yield the consistency and multivariate normal asymptotes distribution. Based on those properties, we build the procedure for finding the best model in seasonal multivariate time series, and then apply it on the number of foreign tourists in Yogyakarta and Bali data. The result from VAR-GSTAR model is compared with the result from the standard multivariate time series. The comparison result demonstrates that the procedure of VARMA model can not carry out the seasonal lags on the order of the model. This problem can be handled by the VAR-GSTAR model. The interpretation of VAR-GSTAR model is more realistic than that of VARMA model, i.e. the number of foreign tourists in Yogyakarta depends on that in Bali, but not the opposite, whereas VARMA model yields the opposite result. Additionally, the result of forecast accuracy comparison on tourism data in Yogyakarta and Bali shows that VAR-GSTAR model give better forecast than VARMA model.

Abstract

The aim of the research content three part, thus a to know misclassification and model discriminant analysis with bootstrap approach, model regression ordinal with bootstrap approach, and model MARS with bootstrap approach. The data used is data of secondary related to matrix variance covariance is same and unequal that is (The data worker standard of living and banking performance). The result of this research shows that in determining distinguishing variable between groups there are difference of variable at each method. This matter because of at each method has specification either from fulfilled of assumption and also estimation its. So also at accuracy of classification between groups there is difference especially at matrix of variance covariance unequal at worker standard of living case. As a whole can be concluded that the problem accuracy of classification bootstrap approach at each method give small mistake of goodness at matrix variance covariance unequal and equal. Keywords: classification, bootstrap, discriminant analysis, ordinal regression, MARS.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to propose two new procedures for model selection in Neural Networks (NN) for time series forecasting. Firstly, we focused on the derivation of the asymptotic properties and asymptotic normality of NN parameters estimator. Then, we developed the model building strategies based on statistical concepts particularly statistics test based on the Wald test and the inference of R2 incremental. In this paper, we employ these new procedures in two main approaches for model building in NN, i.e. fully bottom-up or forward scheme by using the inference of R2 incremental, and the combination between forward (by using the inference of R2 incremental) and top-down or backward (by implementing Wald test). Bottom-up approach starts with an empty model, whereas top-down approach begins with a large NN model. We used simulation data as a case study. The results showed that a combination between statistical inference of R2 incremental and Wald test was an effective procedure for model selection in NN for time series forecasting.

Abstract

The cellular immune reactions involve mainly the insect blood cells or hemocytes and consist of adhesive reactions of hemocytes against microbes or parasites. Among these various hemocytes, the granulocytes and plasmatocytes are thought to be the most important hemocytes involved in insect cellular defense. According to the number and size of the foreign invaders in the insect hemocoel, three major cellular defense reactions can be classified: Phagocytosis, encapsulation and nodule formation. Many of the initial interactions leading to coagulation and phagocytosis reactions in insects are sugar-lectin binding reactions, involving homeostasis- and defense-related receptors, such as scavenger receptors and mucin-like immune receptors. However, the mechanism that cause the formation of endocytotic vesicles are not known. The major aims of this study are 1) To test the induction of cell-spreading and macropinocytosis, 2) To investigate the role of lectins in coagulation reaction. The observations suggest that in the presence of lectins hemocytes can either form coagulation products, such as globules, or perform cellular functions, such as adhesion and macropinocytosis. Since coagulation and cell activities are quite disparate processes, the balance between the two types of reactions is quite relevant for the overall outcome. In cell-free hemolymph (plasma) only coagulation reactions occur in the presence of externally added GalNAc-specific lectins.

Abstract

In this paper, we discuss binary multivariate response modeling based on extreme value distribution. Independent variables used in these models are some attributes of the alternative (labeled Zijt) and some attributes of the decision maker (labeled Xi). We assumed that n the decision maker observed with T response. Yit is tnd response variables from decision maker i and value Yit is binary. Response of decision maker i can be expressed as Yi = (Yi1,...,YiT). In each of the decision maker, we have data (Yi, Xi, Zi). Models are derived by the assumption that maximum random utility which the decision maker i choose one of the alternatives having greatest utility. Methods of parameter estimation are Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) method and Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE). First discussion in this study is the estimation by MLE with independent assumption among response and then the MLE estimation using joint distribution by Bahadur’s representation. By MLE and GEE, estimating equations are obtained and solved by numerical (like’s Newthon-Rahpson method) in the condition that not all of the parameters of individual attributes can be estimated (identified). Based on testing simulation data with R.2.5.0, we recommend (a) in low correlation, GEE is better than MLE (b) in moderate correlation, MLE is most efficient but not stable (c) in high or moderate correlation, MLE and GEE should be used (d) correlation estimators cannot explain the real correlation because of its bias.

Abstract

A High Power Efficiency of Optical Waveguide for Logic X-OR gate has been investigated numerically by means of FD-BPM (Finite Difference Beam Propagation Method). The proposed structure is designed by using of three Y-branches. Two of Y-branches structure is parallel combined in the input section and the other one is located with the opposite direction of the output section. The whole guiding structure is called 2x3 channel which having two-input ports and three-output ports. One of the gap between three output arms in the cladding region is assumed to be a nonlinear materials which will produce the phase shifting between its output optical fields. The magnitude of phase shifting is depending on the nonlinearity of material and the optical input power. Y-branch leg angle is also a significant parameter to increase efficiency of optical power switch. The numerical schemes showed that the proposed structure is suitable for optical switching especially for logic X-OR gate.
