Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a major contributor to neonatal mortality and developmental disorders in Indonesia. In West Bandung Regency, the prevalence of LBW remains high and plays a significant role in the overall infant mortality rate in West Java Province. Despite this, no locally adapted predictive model has been developed to assess LBW risk based on maternal characteristics. This study aimed to construct a predictive model for LBW using maternal factors among mothers delivering at three district public hospitals: RSUD Cililin, RSUD Lembang, and RSUD Cikalong Wetan. This quantitative study employed a retrospective approach involving 265 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected from medical records and brief interviews and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The research was conducted between January and March 2024. The results showed that among six independent variables tested, three had a statistically significant effect on infant birth weight: maternal age (p = 0.047), maternal weight gain during pregnancy (p = 0.004), and parity (p < 0.001). The predictive model generated was: Y = 2570.162 + 3.739X₁ – 11.501X₂ – 94.726X₃, with an R² value of 0.464, indicating that 46.4% of the variation in birth weight can be explained by the model. The model suggests that maternal age positively influences birth weight, whereas excessive maternal weight gain and higher parity show a negative relationship. This model can be used by healthcare providers as an early screening tool to detect LBW risk and to support targeted nutrition education and antenatal interventions at health service facilities.

Abstract

The prevalence of malnutrition which can result in stunting is still a serious problem in Indonesia. Until now, research is still continuing on the most effective prevention of this problem. The large number of supplements circulating with a mixture of chemicals can often cause health problems in the future. Moringa oleifera (moringa leaves) can be an alternative to prevent stunting problems. People still use this plant as an accompaniment to everyday cooking, and it is not uncommon for this plant to only be used as decoration in their yard. From the results of a preliminary study at Pandanmulyo Community Health Center, Pandanmulyo Village, it was found that there were 21 cases of malnutrition and 23 cases of children experiencing malnutrition. Researching whether or not Moringa leaves may help malnourished youngsters gain weight is the driving force for this project. Using a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design, this study applies quantitative research approaches.  The sample was 20 toddlers aged 1-3 years old. Paired t-test analysis was used to determine the comparison of weight between groups. From the research results, data was obtained that there was a significant difference in the control group and the treatment group with a p value of 0.037 (p <0.05) which shows that giving Moringa aloifera in the form of Ready Useable Therapy Food for 4 weeks can increase the weight of toddlers.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a condition characterized by menstrual pain, commonly presenting as lower abdominal cramps that may radiate to the back. The primary cause is often linked to hormonal imbalances. Non-pharmacological approaches, such as physical exercise and massage therapy, have been shown to help alleviate the symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise for dysmenorrhea and effleurage massage in reducing menstrual pain among adolescent girls at the Melak Health Vocational School. A quasi-experimental design with a two-group pre-test and post-test approach was used. The study population included all female students from classes X, XI, and XII, with a total of 48 participants selected through total sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The results indicated that both interventions significantly reduced menstrual pain, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) for each group. Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney test revealed a significant difference between the two interventions, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Exercise for dysmenorrhea demonstrated a greater average effect than effleurage massage, with a mean difference of 11.25. Based on these findings, it is recommended that adolescent girls consider both exercise and effleurage massage as non-pharmacological options for managing menstrual pain, with exercise for dysmenorrhea proving to be the more effective therapy.
