Abstract

Swiftlet bird (Collocalia fuciphaga) is a non-timber forest product that has high economic value. Swiftlet cultivation is ideally done in the lowlands and away from human settlements. Currently, a lot of swiftlet cultivation has been carried out in residential areas. As is the case in Wonomulyo District, Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi Province. The existence of this cultivation activity has a lot of impact on the socio-economic community. This study aims to determine public perceptions of swiftlet cultivation activities in Wonomulyo District, Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi Province. The research was conducted by interviewing 100 respondents who were around the swiftlet cultivation site. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results showed an average attitude of 78% in the category of intercepting 75%–100%, which means that people feel very disturbed by Swiftlet bird cultivation.

Abstract

Honey bee farming has long been known by the public. This business requires land, capital, labor, knowledge and skills as well as good management. This study aims to determine the amount of income and feasibility in one production period. This research was conducted in Baruga Village, Sendana District, Majene Regency. Collecting data using direct interview techniques with farmers. Data analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis, income and business feasibility. The results showed that the income from the Trigona sp honey bee cultivation business in Baruga Village, Sendana District, Majene Regency was Rp. 29,896,500 / production period. The Revenue of Cost Ratio (R/C) value is 2.44, this indicates that the farmer's honey bee cultivation business in Baruga Village, Sendana  District, Majene Regency is feasible.

Abstract

The Hutan Bambu Alu (Alu Bamboo Forest) is one of the tourist destinations with the characteristics of a mountainous area that has the potential to be developed with the concept of ecotourism in Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi. This study aims to calculate the potential value of attractiveness, accessibility, conditions around the area, accommodation and supporting facilities for Alu Bamboo Forest ecotourism. The results showed that Alu Bamboo Forest was feasible to be developed into an ecotourism area with a feasibility index of 79.43%. The potential-based development strategy that needs to be carried out is to carry out regular maintenance of the area, carry out area arrangements based on the level of awareness and sensitivity of the area, add alternative accommodation services, develop/create tour packages that are integrated with the area around the Alu Bamboo Forest, and build networks that both with transportation service providers to improve service quality including visitor comfort.

Abstract

Forests are natural resources that have various important functions both ecologically and economically. This study aims to formulate a strategy for forest management and natural tourism that is appropriate to improve the welfare of the community around the forest area. This research was conducted at Mapilli KPH, Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi Province. Data collection uses in-depth interview techniques. Data analysis was carried out descriptively using the theory of stakeholders analysis Reed et al. 2009. The results showed that there were ten stakeholders in forest management and tourism in Mapilli KPH, each of which had its own role and interests. Based on the assessment of the interests and strength of stakeholders in forest and tourism management classified as not yet effective.

Abstract

A nature reserve is a nature reserve area which because of its nature reserve has the uniqueness of plants, animals, and their ecosystems or certain ecosystems that need to be protected and their development takes place naturally. This research conducted in the ponda-ponda nature reserve is one of the conservation areas managed by the South Sulawesi KSDA Center which is located in East Luwu Regency. This study aims to analyze peope’s knowledge about human activities that have the potential to be a disturbance to the ponda-ponda nature reserve. Method of collecting data by making direct observations in the field with interview techniques using questionnaires. The population of this research is the Teromu village community and the sample who becomes the research respondent is 20 people. The data analysis used is descriptive socisl analysis. The results of this study area the knowledge of the community about human activities that have the potential to disrupt the Ponda-Ponda nature reserve, namely, 5% forest fires, 0% cultivation, 5% illegal grazing, 15% illegal logging, 30% wildlife hunting and 45% timber theft.

Abstract

Pangi (Pangium edule Reinw) is a type of non-timber forest product commodity in the vegetable group, in which all parts of this plant can be utilized. Pangi plants are planted on agroforestry land so that they can be used sustainably to fulfill their subsistence needs. Some of the people of Kalembang Village cultivate their land by turning it into agroforestry land and planting seasonal crops, fruits and forestry plants. This study aims to describe the potential and utilization of pangi plants found in the agroforestry land of the Kalembang community, Sangalla' District, Tana Toraja Regency. Simple random sampling technique and interviews are the methods used in this study. The data obtained is arranged in tabular form and then described in a descriptive way to describe the use of Pangi by the community. The results showed that there were 4 hamlets in Kalembang Village, but this research was only conducted in Kalembang Hamlet. The area of agroforestry land in Kalembang Village is 325 ha, while the area planted by pangi is on average 0.25-1 ha with around 10-31 pangi trees. The research data in the field shows that there are 524 trees which are still productive in producing fruit or the equivalent of 90%, while the number of trees that are not productive in producing fruit (dead) is 58 trees or the equivalent of 10%. Respondents in Kalembang Village only used 4 products produced from pangi plants, namely (stems) used as building materials; (leaves) are used as wrappers for meat so they don't spoil quickly and leaves are easily used as vegetables; (pangi fruit/seeds) are used as food ingredients, namely vegetables and seasoning (Kluwek).
