Abstract

The relationship between the role of professional competence of teachers and the implementation of School-based Management (SBM) is investigated in this study. Survey and interviews had been done to 325 respondents consisted of 13 principals, 226 teachers, and 86 school committee members of public secondary schools (SMPN) in Parepare, South Celebes, Indonesia in this mixed-method study. The results showed that the there is a significant relationship between the teachers’ professional competence and the implementation of SBM. In other words, the increase of the teachers’ professional competence is significantly related to the increase of the implementation of SBM. Furthermore, the results also indicated that teachers’ professional competence significantly affect the implementation of SBM. Additionally, the qualitative results from the interviews indicated that teachers’ professional development in the form of performance, commitment, and motivation improvement can be considered as an important strategy to improve the quality of SBM.DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijere.v2i3.2577

Abstract

The course of design and analysis of computer algorithms is one of the core-course of computer science education; this paper presents an online coding framework to help students to learn the course of design and ananlysis of computer algorithms and other coding-related courses in computer science. With the online coding framework, a student can edit code in any web browser, and then executes it. This online coding framework can connect teachers, curriculum authors, and students in a unique social experience by tracking and streaming progress updates in real time. In particular, with the newly proposed framework, it is not difficult to find interesting and unexpected input values during students’practicing, and then help them to understand what their code is actually doing.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijere.v2i3.2570

Abstract

The field of e-learning has improved tremendously in the past decade with the invention of all kinds of e-leaning systems contributing to the quality of education. The undertaken research seek to improve web assessment systems which are limited to multiple choice type of assessment which is summative assessment that does not have a feedback section to students hence promote limited learning. The proposed system uses ontologies to promote formative assessment with a feedback loop to the students. The structured type of questions are now implemented in web assessment systems instead of using multiple choice type of questions which have limitations in terms of functionality when it comes to marking textual answers due to wide variety of words that can mean the same thing. The designed system was implemented using an ontology based dictionary which generates all possible solution for a particular question and uses aspects of artificial intelligence. The system was applied to two primary schools students doing grade 4 levels. Students wrote a test that was marked by both the system and teacher. Results from the study showed that the system marks as close to the human examiner and is the ideal assessment and marking if implemented well.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijere.v2i3.2257

Abstract

This study investigated access to internet and socio-economic background as correlates of students’ achievement in Agricultural Science among selected Senior Secondary Schools Two Students in Ogbomoso South and North Local Government Areas. The study adopted multi-stage sampling technique. Simple random sampling was used to select thirty (30) students from each of the selected school in the two local governments. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 300 students from various strata (school) chosen in the two local governments. Five research questions were answered. Descriptive Statistics, Pearson Moment Correlation and Multiple regressions were used to analyse the data gathered. The study observed that, 67.7% of the students have access to the internet (two-third of the sample). A positive but not significant relationship exists between access to internet and students’ achievement in Agricultural Science (r = 0.110 and p>0.05). There is a positive and significant relationship between socio-economic background and students’ achievement in Agricultural Science (r = 0.515** and p<0.01). Furthermore, relationship between socio-economic background and access to internet is not significant (r = 0.040 and p>0.05). Access to internet and socio-economic background are jointly related to students’ achievement in Agricultural Science. F (3,296) = 37.082, p<0.05, R value of .523ª, R ² of 2.73 and adjusted R square of .266.

Abstract

This paper concentrates on dictation as a beneficial tool in both teaching and testing.  The goal is to discuss about the points that were ignored during the years in foreign language classes. In fact this paper aims at investigating helpful techniques in reviving active dictation. Here some discussion is presented theoretically about the strategies that can be used to assist learners to develop the other skills during dictation sessions. An effective tool that can help teachers and learners during language teaching/learning processes to promote learning is dictation, if it is utilized in a proper procedure while considering all four skills in learning a foreign/second language. So the significance of the topic leads the researcher to study it. The aim is to identify the most appropriate strategies in using dictation in the classroom that may assist learners in learning a language communicatively. Therefore the current study came to existence to gain this target and to present some techniques to help in promoting such skills in language classes.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijere.v2i3.1717

Abstract

This paper is aimed at exploring the experiences of executive officers with occupations related stress. The status of occupational stress is evaluated based on the responses from employees in executive in different organizations of Nepal. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey. The results show there is a significant relationship between occuapational stress factors. The results obtained from the regression analysis showed that stress related factors (role conflict, role …) were found to be significantly related to the total stress level, whereas the stress associated with the working stress factors were insignificant. Results would showed that the different stress and the factor total stress factor was the most significant stressor of work-related stress level (p < 0.01), indicating stressors is one of the main causes of stress among EO of Nepal.DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijere.v2i3.2147
