Abstract

The growing complexity of the global environmental crisis demands an Islamic da'wah approach that is not only spiritual but also ecological. The concept of Green Da'wah, or environmentally conscious da'wah, has emerged as a strategic approach to cultivating Muslim awareness of their role as khalīfah fī al-arḍ (vicegerents on Earth). Within Indonesian society, a range of local religious traditions, such as nyadran, sedekah bumi, tahlilan, and slametan, contain ecological wisdom that holds significant potential as instruments for both Islamic da'wah and education. This study aims to theoretically examine the integration of local wisdom found in these religious traditions with Islamic ecological principles, and to explore the role of Islamic education as a medium for revitalizing such traditions in response to modernity and environmental degradation. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes scholarly references from Islamic sources, cultural anthropology, Islamic education, and ecotheology. The findings reveal a convergence of values between local traditions and Islamic teachings on living harmoniously with nature, which can be implemented through culturally rooted Islamic education. Institutions such as Islamic boarding schools and madrasas hold strategic potential in shaping students' ecological character through contextualized curricula grounded in local wisdom. These findings underscore the importance of integrating local traditions into Islamic education as a sustainable and culturally embedded strategy for ecological da'wah.

Abstract

The erosion of cultural identity among Generation Z necessitates an innovative approach to character education through the recontextualization of local wisdom. This study aims to analyze the integration of moral and cultural values within the song "Zapin Melayu," a modern adaptation performed by Lesti Kejora, and evaluates its relevance as a pedagogical medium for character formation in contemporary education. Employing a qualitative descriptive design with content analysis, this research examines lyrical narratives and historical archives to interpret latent didactic messages. The findings reveal that "Zapin Melayu" serves as a sophisticated synthesis of Islamic theological principles and indigenous Malay ethics, encompassing themes of sincerity (ikhlas), social decorum (adab), and collective harmony. The results demonstrate that through its "dynamic packaging," this modern iteration successfully preserves the ontological essence of traditional art while resonating with modern musical sensibilities. Consequently, the song functions not merely as aesthetic entertainment but as a critical ethno-pedagogical tool that fosters spiritual awareness and social solidarity. This study concludes that the revitalization of traditional arts through contemporary media is imperative for fortifying national identity and internalizing akhlaqul karimah amidst the pressures of global homogenization.

Abstract

Kampung 10 Ulu in Palembang is a multi-ethnic settlement (Malay, Chinese, and Arab) where the community lives harmoniously despite cultural and religious differences. This study aims to analyze the influence of culture and the impact of ethnicity on religious, social, and economic life in the area. Qualitative methods with a naturalistic inquiry approach were used through observation, interviews, and documentation, accompanied by data reduction analysis, data presentation, and verification of findings. The results show that inter-ethnic tolerance is formed through strong interactions, such as the practice of Sanjo (silaturahmi) and cultural adaptations (for example, the Ruwah alms ritual adopted by the Chinese ethnic group). Economically, the strategic location on the banks of the Musi River and the trading habits of the Chinese ethnic group strengthen the trading activities of other communities. Cultural assimilation also occurs through inter-ethnic and inter-religious marriages that do not disrupt family harmony. The findings regarding the concept of 'organic-transactional assimilation' contribute to global multicultural sociology by demonstrating that economic interdependence and shared organic spaces can foster more resilient social integration than formal, top-down models of multiculturalism. The implications of this study confirm that ethnic diversity in Kampung 10 Ulu not only enriches local culture but also creates a model of tolerance and collaboration that can be replicated in other multi-ethnic communities.

Abstract

Environmental degradation in Kalimantan is not only an ecological crisis but also a challenge to the ethical foundations of local communities. This study aims to explore how the Muslim community in Tumbang Batu integrates local Dayak-Malay wisdom with the Islamic ethic of iḥsān in formulating resistance to the expansion of the palm oil industry. Using a qualitative approach and social construction theory, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation of community practices. The results reveal that forest preservation in Tumbang Batu is understood as "Ecological Marwah"—a sacred obligation that combines collective ancestral memory with a transcendental mandate. Key findings indicate the emergence of The Tumbang Batu Model of Islamic Eco-Resistance, where the value of iḥsān acts as a kinetic moral compass that encourages excellence and compassion for all creation. This phenomenon is also strengthened by the digital agency of youth through the concept of Sacred Environmental Cartography, which synergizes GPS mapping with sacred customary zones. This study concludes that the integration of vernacular theology and local epistemic sovereignty is key to the sustainability of a resilient ecosystem. This study makes a theoretical contribution to the global Eco-Islam discourse by offering a new paradigm in environmental policy based on hybrid identities and grassroots spirituality.

Abstract

This study examines the core Islamic educational values embedded within Hikayat Si Miskin, a canonical Malay literary work rich in moral, religious, and cultural symbolism, while analyzing its contemporary relevance to the integration of religion, culture, and pedagogy. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach through content analysis and a comprehensive literature review on scientific integration, the research identifies three pivotal dimensions of Islamic educational values: theological values (aqidah) manifested through tawakal, prayer, and gratitude; ethical values (akhlaq) evidenced by patience, sincerity, and self-improvement; and social values characterized by altruism, justice, and communal solidarity. These findings reveal a sophisticated synthesis of Islamic doctrine and Malay local wisdom, reflecting a life philosophy rooted in faith and morality. In the context of modern education, these values provide a robust framework for strengthening faith-based character development, designing culture-centric curricula, and establishing a holistic, contextual Islamic educational paradigm. Consequently, Hikayat Si Miskin transcends its literary status to serve as a vital instrument for reinforcing character and fostering the integration of religious and cultural identities within the contemporary educational landscape.
