Abstract

Abstract : Librarians as employees of the State's national apparatus, have duties as planners, executors and supervisors of the implementation of tasks in providing services to the community. This also applies to persons with disabilities, that they also have the right to receive information, to be able to interpret things that may be difficult for them to understand. Librarians must also have high creativity, because they must be creative in conveying basic literacy for persons with disabilities. If it goes well, the purpose of the library in providing services to the community can certainly be achieved. This study uses the literature study method, analyzes previous research topics, then presents a new theory and is different from previous research, but still related to previous research. The data used in this paper is the result of previous research that has been published in various online journals both nationally and internationally. This data collection is carried out by selecting the source of information needed by the author in each journal which is taken according to predetermined criteria. These criteria include, the year of the source of the information, ranging from 2013 to 2023. As for the purpose of this study, researchers want to find out what the role of librarians is in reading and writing literacy to convey to children with disabilities.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to conduct a literature review or narrative review regarding the application of information technology in libraries through the use of the Google Scholar database. The method used includes searching for scientific articles related to the application of information technology in libraries using the Google Scholar database. In the search process, articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, such as language (English and Indonesian), publication period (2013–2022), and focus on the application of information technology in libraries. The results of this study indicate that the application of information technology in libraries has an important role in increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of library services. Some examples of information technology that have been implemented in libraries include library management systems, digitization of library collections, library portals, RFID, and self-checkout kiosks. The application of information technology assists libraries in managing collections, lending books, extending loan periods, and facilitating user access to library collections. However, this study also identified some of the challenges faced in implementing information technology in libraries, such as limited funds for information technology procurement, the limited skills or expertise of library staff in managing information technology, and user data security. Therefore, the conclusions of this study emphasize the importance of good management and maintenance of information technology and improving the skills and expertise of library staff in managing information technology in order to maximize the benefits of implementing information technology in libraries.

Abstract

Disruption changed all aspects of human beings, with no exception for the library. The library must be transformed traditional library into a smart library so that it is not abandoned by its users. A smart library is a “human-based library” that consists of four core components, namely smart services, smart people, smart place, and smart governance. Librarians have a prominent role in the implementation of the smart library. Libraries at the Ministry of Agriculture have the plan to transform their libraries into a smart libraries. Therefore, an assessment of the readiness of librarians within the Ministry of Agriculture is needed to ensure that transforming the library in the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia through developing smart libraries can run well. The result of the assessment indicates that in term of the number of librarians is quite enough. However, some training or capacity building is required in library management and information technology.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utilization of ebook collections as an information resource at University X Library and the challenges faced during the period from 2019 to 2023. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a case study method at Library X. The analysis focused on the level of access to ebooks, assessed from several aspects which is: (1) total accesses, (2) chapter downloads, (3) full downloads, (4) online views, (5) print requests, (6) email requests, (7) save requests, (8) turnaways, and (9) abstract requests, for the overall ebook collection available at Library of University X. Data collection was carried out through document analysis, observations, and interviews with librarians. The results showed that the utilization of the ebook collection is still relatively low, which is influenced by several factors namely accessibility, concurrent usage level, and also limited information access of ebook. Therefore, to enhance utilization of the ebook collection in the future, there is a need for the development of more effective and efficient strategies to improve ebook utilization at libraries. This includes reviewing aspects such as accessibility, the content or titles relevant to the needs of the civitas academica, the infrastructure used for access or ease of access, as well as policies regarding access restrictions the collection, in order to ensure that the ebook collection can optimize the role to supporting the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

Abstract

One of the functions of the Proklamator Bung Karno Library is to utilize the Bung Karno Literature Collection. The utilization in question is not just achieving a high number of visits by users to the Special Collection about Bung Karno, but more than that. The utilization in question is the effort so that users increase their knowledge of Bung Karno's Biography. Indicators of the library's success in carrying out this function can be seen, among others, from the knowledge of users about Bung Karno. Therefore, this study aims to determine the knowledge of users about Bung Karno's biography. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method through a questionnaire containing closed questions about Bung Karno's biography. The results of the study involving 254 respondents showed that on the first question about Bung Karno's date of birth, 156 respondents answered correctly, 83 respondents answered incorrectly, and 15 respondents did not answer; the second question about Bung Karno's place of birth, 132 respondents answered correctly, 105 respondents answered incorrectly, and 17 respondents did not answer; to the third question about Bung Karno's father's name, 130 respondents answered correctly, 109 respondents answered incorrectly, and 15 respondents did not answer; to the fourth question about Bung Karno's mother's name, 123 respondents answered correctly, 116 answered incorrectly, and 15 respondents did not answer; the fifth question about Bung Karno's first name, 124 respondents answered correctly, 115 respondents answered incorrectly, and 15 respondents did not answer; the sixth question about the date Bung Karno died, 108 respondents answered correctly, 130 respondents answered incorrectly, and 16 respondents did not answer; on the seventh question about the name of Bung Karno's native school, 89 respondents answered correctly, 148 respondents answered incorrectly, and 17 respondents did not answer; to the eighth question about the name of Bung Karno's first wife, 84 respondents answered correctly, 154 respondents answered incorrectly, and 16 respondents did not answer; The ninth question about the major taken by Bung Karno while studying at THS, 143 respondents answered correctly, 94 respondents answered incorrectly, and 17 respondents did not answer; the tenth question about the relationship between Bung Karno and Pancasila, 85 respondents answered correctly, 155 respondents answered incorrectly, and 14 respondents did not answer. From all the respondents' answers, it was found that the percentage of correct answers from respondents was 46%, incorrect answers 48%, and unanswered questions were 6%. The predicate value obtained was D which means less, because the percentage of correct answers was less than 60. The conclusion of this study is that the knowledge of the users of the Proklamator Bung Karno Library about the biography of Bung Karno is still low or lacking. Therefore, various efforts need to be made to improve the knowledge of users about the biography of Bung Karno, especially to carry out the functions carried out by the Proklamator Bung Karno Library.

Abstract

Publications can be a tool for librarians to develop and refine their skills. College libraries aim to assist academics in conducting research. Librarians must master a particular field to write papers, so they can assist teachers. There are many obstacles for librarians to be productive through publications. This study aims to analyze whether the number of libraries, total library operational costs, and the number of digital devices in library services affect the number of papers written by librarians. This study uses secondary data on libraries in the provinces of East, West, and Central Java, from 2018-2022. The data is in panel form and was analyzed using the Random Effect Model through Eviews software. Before being analyzed, the data was first tested with the classical assumption test to determine the normality of the data and the Chow and Haussmann tests to determine the appropriate panel analysis model. The results show that operational costs for libraries and the number of digital devices used for library facilities have a significant effect on librarian productivity in writing papers. However, the number of libraries in a province does not have a significant effect on the number of papers produced by librarians.

Abstract

Whether each organization is good or not depends on its service. In carrying out management and service activities, libraries and librarians must continue to improve the type and quality of their services. The Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform introduced new types of library services contained in the Minister of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Regulation Number 55 of 2022, including: research consultation services, collaborative research services, information literacy services and scientific field mapping services. Utilization of library services influences user perceptions of library services. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. A descriptive qualitative format is used to interpret library services to library users. Research data collection was carried out by means of observation and interviews. Sample selection used purposive sampling technique and determination of sample size used snowball sampling technique. The results of this research describe user perceptions of new library services at the IPB Library. As many as 78% of informants were not aware of the new library services. All informants said they really needed the new library services. There needs to be commitment from the institution and readiness of librarians to support service activities in the library.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of users at the UPT Bung Karno Library on theiPusnas Application of the National Library of Indonesia. This study took a sample of 303 respondents.The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. Data collection is done by questionnaire,observation, and documentation. The results of this study show that out of 303 respondents it isknown that 39% or 118 people already know the iPusnas application and 61% or 185 people do notknow the iPusnas application. Of the 118 respondents who know the iPusnas application, 65% or 77people have downloaded the iPusnas application and 35% or 41 people have not downloaded theiPusnas application. From the data from this study it can be seen that many users at the Bung KarnoProclamator Library still do not know about iPusnas. Therefore it is necessary to increase thesocialization and promotion of the iPusnas application through social media, the web, and on sitethrough the user guidance program.

Abstract

This research is based on the author's curiosity about the competencies of Library and Information Science graduates needed in the world of work. One way to find out is to conduct research on job vacancies for the field of Library and Information Science. The library vacancies came from the Facebook group Lowongan Pustakawan which was formed by the author himself since mid-2014 which until 2022 had 12,384 active members. After going through several established categories, there were 363 librarian vacancies as samples in this study. 4 vacancy contributors were found, they are: school libraries, college libraries, special libraries and public libraries. All four mentioned several variations of job titles needed to handle tasks in the library. There are 116 criteria listed in the 363 librarian vacancies. The 116 criteria are classified into 12 competencies, after ranking, the most frequently listed competencies are personality competencies, followed by educational and information technology competencies. This study recommends several things, one of which is that there should be further research to examine competencies specifically at each level of competency in Library and Information Science education.

Abstract

The need for electronic reading resources is very high, considering their impact in supporting learning, research, and scientific development. Therefore, cooperation between libraries and e-resources publishers is one solution that can be realized, especially in higher education libraries. The purpose of the research is to find out (1) the process of cooperation between the Academic Support Unit of the Bandung State Polytechnic Library and iGroup in improving e-resources and to find out (2) the publishers of e-resources that the Academic Support Unit of the Bandung State Polytechnic Library subscribes to through this cooperation. The research was conducted using qualitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of literature studies and interviews and data analysis techniques consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the cooperation process between the Academic Support Unit of the Bandung State Polytechnic Library and iGroup consisted of 6 stages, namely notification of information regarding the amount of funds, making then submitting the Work Plan and Budget of the Ministry of State / Institution to the Goods / Services Procurement Work Unit, auctioning, selecting partners, and making contracts. The results showed that the cooperation opened access for the Academic Support Unit of the Bandung State Polytechnic Library to subscribe to international publishers, namely SpringerLink and Emerald Insight. There are also other findings that the Academic Support Unit of the Bandung State Polytechnic Library has made several efforts in promoting e-resources that have been subscribed to the Bandung State Polytechnic academic community, both offline and online.
