Abstract

CHARACTERISTICS AND IMPACTS OF TROPICAL CYCLONES GROWING AROUND INDONESIAN TERRITORY. Tropical cyclone is a cyclonic originates from tropical oceans and driven principally by heat transfer from the ocean. Tropical cyclone is an atmospheric phenomenon characterized by the emergence of low air pressure that triggers the occurrence of strong winds due to the process of heat transfer from the equator to the latitude. This phenomenon can not be prevented, so that it has great potential to impact on the damage in the area it through. Tropical cyclones can be characterized through their life cycle, scale of power and how it impacts in the area it through. The Cempaka and Dahlia tropical cyclone occuring in 2017 greatly influenced territory of Indonesia. The effect of the cyclone causes extreme weather in Indonesia, especially in areas close to where cyclones are formed.

Abstract

SEAWEED: NATURAL ANTIOXIDANT FREE RADICAL ANTIDOTE. Free radicals are the result of various complex chemical processes in the body, in form of oxidation process, cell metabolism, UV irradiation, environmental pollution such as cigarette smoke, and other pollutants. The effects of free radicals can be prevented by addition of antioxidants endogenously from outside the body. Seaweed is one source of natural antioxidants that is safe for the body. Seaweed contains bioactive compounds that are able to prevent free radicals such as carotenoids, phenols, vitamins and minerals.

Abstract

KNOWING Ashtoret lunaris (FORSKAL, 1775) FROM MATUTIDAE (CRUSTACEA: DECAPODA: BRACHYURA). Ashtoret lunaris is a species of genus Ashtoret from Matutidae. This crab is known as “yellow moon crab”, because it has a yellow and rounded carapace like a full moon. These crabs are nocturnal and live in coastal areas with soft substrate. The crab has a wide distribution spanning from the Red Sea to South Africa, Asia and Australia. Some biological aspects such as morphology, systematic, habitat, feeding habit, distribution and others are discussed in this paper.

Abstract

THE ASPECTS OF BIOLOGY ANDEYE ABLATION ON SHRIMP Penaeus monodon PENAEIDAE (DECAPODA: MALACOSTRACA). A qood quality of seeds (fry) is a very important production component to support the shrimp farming activities in ponds. The quantity and quality of shrimp seeds are largely determined by hatchery products obtained from the quality of the broodstock used. The provision of the broodstock is the beginning of the seed production activities and is one of the factors that determines the quality and quantity of the production. The growing demand for mature gonad shrimp is a big problem for shrimp farmers, due to the ability of windu shrimp to spawn in the nature (ripe gonad naturally) takes relatively long time. Therefore, the eye ablation process can accelerate the process of gonad maturity. This article describes some aspects that should be understood in conducting windu shrimp farming as well as explanations of ablation process.

Abstract

MORPHOLOGY, CLASIFICATION, AND DISTRIBUTION OF SQUID FAMILY LOLINGINIDAE. Squids are one of Indonesian export commodities that is produced in frozen, salted, dried or canned, however the information about biology, ecology, habitat and distribution of squid are little known. Squid have ten tentacles equipped with suction, and generates ink to defend against their enemies. Squids are demersal or semi-pelagic animal that lives in the waters column up to a depth of 400 m with diurnal movements. Squids reproduce sexually and by deocious. Squids with family Lolinginidae (genus Lolious) are distributed across the Indonesian waters with temperatures of 8 to 32 C and salinity of 8.5 to 30 ppm. Familly Lolinginidae is grouped into several genera included Afrololigo, Allotheuthis, Dorytheuthis, Heterololigo, Loliolus, Lollinguncula, Pickfordiateuthis, Sepioteuthis, dan Urotheuthis

Abstract

REMOTE SENSING FOR COASTAL STUDIES. Coastal ecosystem is an ecological system that is important and the most productive area on earth. On the other hand, pressure on coastal ecosystems for human necessity cause decrease quality of coastal ecosystems. Utilization of coastal areas requires the proper management and suitable with objective. Good management requires appropriate information for decisionmaking. For spatial data, acquisition of information through remote sensing data is the best option. This paper will discuss the utilization of using remote sensing for coastal analysis. Coastal management requires information accurately and quickly to follow up issues or problems that growth up. Remote sensing has provided the capability to provide that information by translating information from digital number to thematic information. Regardless from the problem existing mapping method, utilization remote sensing in the future will be the main data on coastal management, especially in the monitoring and measurement of biophysical parameter in coastal areas.
