Abstract

Covid-19 has changed the order of people’s lives in society all over the world, this includes also the Catholic Church’s order of living. One of the affects that Catholics feel, be that those living in cities or in the outskirts, is the initiating of online Eucharist masses. As experienced by the Catholic Church all over the world, the Catholic Church in Indonesia experiences inevitable adaptations in regards to applying both online and offline masses. This article is a result of research in regards to the understanding and perceiving of the Catholic people towards online and offline masses during the times of the covid-19 pandemic in one of the provinces in the Republic of Indonesia, which includes both urban and rural areas. This research utilizes a mix method namely quantitative and qualitative through theological, and liturgical approach. The result of the research shows that generally Catholic people still comprehend and perceive offline Masses as something important, but several people are beginning to get used to online Masses which causes inclinations towards perceiving both online and offline masses as two sides of the same coin.

Abstract

This research was conducted using qualitative methods. The method taken is to conduct interviews with 3 sources. This research is motivated by the author's interest in the Kliwon Friday night Mass at the Sendang Sriningsih Maria Cave, Dalem, Klaten. The author feels that the Kliwon Friday night Tirakatan Mass is a form of inculturation in the Catholic Church, specifically for Catholicism in the Sriningsih area. In this research, the author wants to look at the meaning of the Kliwon Friday night Mass for the people in Sriningsih. The theoretical framework that the author takes is to use the Javanese philosophy of life according to Suwardi Endraswara's book, Querida Amazonia Document which deals with inculturation, also from Gaudium et Spes which talks about the relationship of evangelism with culture. This research produces data that the people really feel the sincerity and solemnity of the Tirakatan Kliwon Friday Mass, even though there is no special ritual in the celebration. The absence of special rituals is not a barrier for people to meet and find God.

Abstract

The love of God expressed through the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a supernatural mystery of God that is difficult for humans to fully understand. But we can enter into a true intimacy with God in this mystery by trusting in Christ, who expressed God's love in a human way as we meditate on His journey on this world. Perhaps at this point many people wonder why it is said that faith is something that can help us to delve into this great revelation? Why can the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is also a heart of flesh, be a concrete expression of God's Love, which produces salvation? That is what the author will explore and clarify in this short research paper. Within the scope of this article, the author will apply the method of analysis – synthesis to list and combine some important term’s definitions related to the topic presented. In addition, data collection techniques using a method based on reference research and historical research with a descriptive and historical approach from many researchs that related to the topic of the discussion is also needed to present the relationship between faith and the mystery of God's love as a revelation to man throughout history, in which the culmination of this revelation is Jesus Christ. Through the relationship between Christ and his heavenly Father, we can realize the intimate relationship between the love of the creator, the redeemer, and the sanctifier for humanity. Thereby strengthening Catholics' faith in the love of God who created and loved man from the beginning of creation and continues to “love them to the end” (Jn 13: 1).

Abstract

The resurrection of the dead is one of the most important dogmatic doctrines as expounded by Apostle Paul. He explained that Christians that die will resurrect with a spiritual body similar to Christ’s type of body when he resurrected. However, Christ resurrection body had some physical features and Paul did not explain how the physical features of Christ resurrection body can be connected to other believers that will resurrect. There are many ancient cultures that teach that the physical body needed to be preserved so that it can be qualified for resurrection without. Paul on the other hand seemed to ignore these beliefs in favour of the view that resurrection body is strictly spiritual. This research is a comparative study that sheds light on the debate regarding the nature of the resurrection body according to The New Testament teaching in comparison with ancient cultures especially those of the Semitic Peoples and other Africans like the Egyptians and the Yorubas. The purpose of this research is to create an imagery regarding the nature and the features of the resurrection body that is yet to be fully understood.

Abstract

Since the 1960s, Indonesia has pursued Green Revolution routes that rely on agrochemical methods to increase rice yields. As soil quality declines and costs of artificial fertilizer and hybrid seeds rise, some farmers have adopted organic rice farming methods. Several studies of this trend have been published, but only a few have explored the role of religion in this gradual move to organic farming. This ethnographic study of eight Catholic farmers in Yogyakarta Special Region/Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY), Central Java Province, and East Nusa Tenggara Province/Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) reveals that while increasing costs of inputs are a factor in conversion, religious perspectives on food and the environment also played a role. The study utilizes the constructivism-interpretivism paradigm and the concept of 'Religion in everyday life' by Nancy Ammerman. The interview reveals that religion is present in faith in God(s), a sense of interconnectedness, a sense of purpose, emotion, spiritual narrative, embodiment, and virtues. Given the highly religious character of Indonesia, this pilot study indicates the need for further research on the role of religion in agricultural development, particularly in the move towards more ecological farming.

Abstract

Local culture has extraordinary wealth for the people who have it and makes life valuable. The existence of local culture is eroded by the presence of outside cultures and becomes consumed by the younger generation, including Catholic students. Cultural changes have also changed for the community, especially students as a young generation. This has an impact on the inculturation of local culture (Batak culture) in the church through Catholic liturgy. This research aims to find out the main elements in the inculturative liturgy, namely aspects of language, building architecture, liturgy music, liturgical clothing, and dance movements, which are cultural artworks that have the values of Batak community life and become an attraction for Catholic students as a form of love for local wisdom. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with interview techniques for informants, the collection of supporting data through documentation, and direct observation related to the facts that occur about the implementation of liturgical inculturation. Key informants in this research include Catholic students, parish pastoral councils and parishioners, and cultural leaders. The research findings show that Catholic students really understand the basic concept of Catholic liturgical inculturation of local culture in the form of church music, dance, clothing, singing, architectural forms of church buildings, and language. Another finding is that students' love for local culture (Batak culture) in Catholic church liturgy is evidenced by taking part in the celebration of inculturation liturgy. This research shows that Catholic students have an understanding of and love for local culture in the celebration of the inculturation Eucharist.

Abstract

Problem of education in the modern era is not only limited to systems, methods and strategies, but more about how to prepare future generations. The phenomenon in the modern era shows that the younger generation is growing up with an individualistic and pragmatic attitude. So that many graduates of educational institutions are trapped in understanding their teachings more deeply, so that the priority of the world of education, which is actually very broad, becomes stagnant and narrow because it is only for themselves. Researchers use qualitative data as research material as a research method by first analyzing various literary sources which dominate the occurrence of several current instant culture phenomena due to technological advances. Then the second method is expected to get the best solution for the world of education, especially the millennial generation in accepting instant culture as a result. technological change and progress. The results of this research are that we all cannot withstand the influx of instant culture with increasingly rapid technological developments so that the world of education, especially the millennial generation, must be positive and critical in facing changes in instant cultural values so that we do not fall into it and the final conclusion is that we strive to use this instant culture in accordance with God's teachings and commands and in accordance with our Pancasila values.

Abstract

As the two most populous Muslim nations carrying the status of precarious democracy, Indonesia and Turkey are still trying to be committed to their credentials as nations that hold dear their multireligious community. While Indonesia follows the value of Pancasila to keep interfaith and intercultural solidarity, Turkey still considers the value of secularism as a core concept to equally treat diverse religious and cultural communities of Turkey. Interestingly, while interfaith engagement in the context of Indonesia is much stronger and visible, discussions about interfaith engagements in Turkey have been refrained due to several reasons. This paper will explore the dynamics of interfaith engagements in Indonesia and Turkey, especially between Muslims and Christians (particularly in the case of Catholics) after the Declaration of Human Fraternity between the Vatican and al-Azhar through the theory of interfaith engagement and the theory of democratic citizenship.
