Journal of Islamic Accounting and Finance Research (JIAFR) is a peer-reviewed journal published twice a year (April and October) by the Department of Sharia Accounting Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Walisongo Semarang Indonesia. JIAFR aims to publish articles in the field of Islamic Accounting and Finance that provide a significant contribution to the development of accounting practices and professions in Indonesian even the world. JIAFR accepts both quantitative and qualitative approaches by English Language manuscripts relating to Islamic Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Taxation, Islamic Behavior Accounting, Accounting Information System, Auditing, Public Sector Accounting, and Islamic Financial Performance.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to examine the effect of capital intensity, inventory intensity, corporate social responsibility and good corporate governance on tax aggressiveness. Good corporate governance variables used in this study were proxied with independent commissioners and audit commitments.Method - This research focused on manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the period of 2016-2018. 177 samples were collected using a purposive sampling technique from 59 companies over an observation period of 3 consecutive years. The samples were then analyzed using a multiple linear regression.Result - The results of this study show that capital intensity has a positive and significant effect on tax aggressiveness, inventory intensity has a positive but not significant effect on tax aggressiveness, corporate social responsibility has no positive and significant effect on tax aggressiveness, Independent commissioner has a positive and significant effect on tax aggressiveness, and audit committee has a negative but significant effect on tax aggressiveness.Implication - The results show that the company with high capital intensity tends to be more aggressive on tax. Therefore, the tax authorities must be aware to companies with these characteristics.Originality - The addition of corporate social responsibility and good corporate governance as independent variables are thought to be related to the company’s tax aggressiveness.

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to find out the implementation of green accounting in Public Hospitals in Malang and to determine the preferences of Public Hospitals in running their business.Method - This research is a descriptive quantitative study conducted by survey method. The total of population are 40 Public Hospitals in Malang Raya and the sample obtained as respondents are 37 Public Hospitals spread across Malang District, Malang City and Batu City.  The sample selection used probability sampling by sending a questionnaire to the entire population.  Result - The results showed that the green accounting practices in Public Hospitals in Malang Raya based on financial activities, social activities and environmental activities had been implemented properly and consistently. Public Hospitals with higher types tended to be better and more consistent in applying green accounting than Public Hospitals with lower types (classes).Implication - With the awareness of Public Hospitals in Malang Raya to implement green accounting in the accountability of their business activities, it can have an impact, especially on environmental sustainability and the welfare of the community around the Public Hospital from the impact of the resulting waste.Originality - The concept of green accounting can also be implemented to Public Hospitals as a public entity. On this basis, of course, it is necessary to conduct research on the implementation of green accounting in Public Hospitals as a public entity so that in its operational activities it does not only consider the financial aspects to generate profits, but also considers environmental and social aspects. As a result, its business can have an impact especially on environmental sustainability and the welfare of the community around Public Hospitals from the impact of the waste produced.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to empirically test and analyze the influence of information content of cash flow statements, Dividend Payout Ratio (DPR), Economic Value Added (EVA) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on the trading volume of empirical study stocks in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2014 to 2018.  Method - The number of samples used in this study was 169 taken from financial report on idx. The analytical techniques used were multiple regressions in order to obtain a comprehensive picture of the relationship between variable and each other. This research used a quantitative approach with its research population of companies included in the manufacturing sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2014- 2018..Result - Based on the results of this study, investment cash flow and Dividend Payout Ratio (DPR) significantly influenced the trading volume of stocks. Meanwhile, operating cash flow, funding cash flow, Economic Value Added (EVA) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) had no significant effect on stock trading volume.Implication - This research is suggested to improve development of trading volume in investor decision making for investment and for companys’ performance assessment.Originality - This research is the study that used content of cash flow resporting information, dividend payout ratio, economic value added, corporate social responsibility on stock trading volume.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to assess the role of CPA Firms related to the quality control system in maintaining the professional skepticism level of auditors affecting the quality of audits provided by the Public Accountants.Method - Population and samples used in this research were the whole auditors working for the CPA Firms in Semarang. The researcher collected the samples using a purposive sampling technique. The number of samples in this study was 31 auditors. The researcher collected the data using online questionnaires sent through email to each CPA Firm. Data analysis was conducted using a Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) with WarpPLS 4.0 software.Result - The results of this study indicated that the quality control system did not affect the auditor’s professional skepticism. Peer review did not moderate the quality control system. The auditor's professional skepticism variable has a significant effect on audit quality. Then, quality control system did not affect audit quality through auditor’s professional skepticism.Implication - To maintain audit quality, CPA Firms in Semarang needs to improve the competence, experience, and professionalism of auditors performing the audit assignments that the professional skepticism of the concerned personnel can be properly maintained.Originality - This study has presented a moderating variable in the relationship between peer review and quality control system affecting professional skepticism.

Abstract

Purpose - This research aims to determine the implementation of Indonesia Financial Accounting Standards (PSAK) 109 at the National Zakat Management Agency (Baznas) of West Kalimantan Province.Method - The research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive research method to describe events in the research field, in the form of reports and distribution of Zakat, Infaq and Shadaqah (ZIS) in 2017 and 2018, then compared with PSAK 109.   Result - The results showed that the implementation of PSAK 109 in the recognition and measurement section of Baznas in West Kalimantan Province can be stated in accordance with PSAK 109. Meanwhile, the implementation of PSAK 109 in the presentation, disclosure and component of financial statements in Baznas of West Kalimantan Province has not fully implemented PSAK 109 as a whole.Implication - The implication of this research is expected to help Baznas of West Kalimantan Province in implementing PSAK 109 so that public trust can increase in the management of ZIS funds.Originality - The uniqueness of this research compared to several previous researches can be seen from the object of research that was first conducted at Baznas of West Kalimantan Province and the research used the data in the last 2 years.

Abstract

Purpose - This research aimed to determine the effect of intellectual capital, good corporate governance (board of commissioners, independent commissioners and managerial ownership) and accounting conservatism on company financial performance (study of companies listed on the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) in 2017-2019).Method - The population in this research was 42 companies registered in JII 2017-2019. Purposive sampling method was used for sample selection and 16 companies were selected. This research used secondary data with multiple regression model data analysis.Result - The results of this research stated that intellectual capital had a positive and significant effect on the company's financial performance. Good corporate governance as measured by the board of commissioners, independent commissioners and managerial ownership had a negative but insignificant effect on the company's financial performance, and accounting conservatism had a positive but insignificant effect on the company's financial performance.Implication - Companies registered in JII are advised to improve the financial performance of their companies, especially those listed in 2017-2019.Originality - The secondary data sources used in this research were obtained from the official website of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), namely www.idx.co.id.

Purpose - The research objective is to determine the effect of debt policy, profitability, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on tax aggressiveness in mining sector companies listed in the Indonesian Sharia Stock Index for the period 2014-2019.Method - The population of this study was 35 mining companies listed on the Indonesian Sharia Stock Index for 2014-2019. The sample selection in this study used purposive sampling method and 6 companies were selected. The data analysis used multiple linear regression analysis. However, on the other hand, the company must maintain and improve compliance in paying taxes.Originality - This study is the first study using a sharia mining company registered with the ISSI related to tax aggressiveness.

Abstract

Purpose - BMT is established as an Islamic micro-finance which gives the loans to the middle-low society. A good financial performance describes a good BMT condition to distribute their own loans. This research is a case study of BMT Binama Semarang City during 2009-2013.Method - The kind of data used are secondary data, monthly financial reports for balance statement, profit and loss, and collectability. The instrument of financial performance was measured based on stable, stable–enough, less-stable, and unstable quality using the variables of capitalizing structure, productive asset quality, liquidity, cost efficiency, capitalizing efficiency, economic rentability, and self-capital rentability. The data were analyzed by using multiple linear regression analyses.Result - The research found that financial performance of BMT in 5 years was stable-enough, caused by losing condition on 2010. The result of multiple linear regression showed that there were only two independent variables which had significant affect, they are: cost efficiency and economic rentability. Economic rentability gives more significant role in financial performance of BMT.Implication - The results showed that the financial performance of BMT Binama Semarang City was quite healthy. This quite healthy condition can be raised to be healthy through efforts to focus improvements on variables that show low scoring, namely cost efficiency and economic profitability.Originality - This study focuses on the financial performance of BMT Binama Semarang City.
