Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see an increase in students' mathematical problem-solving abilities taught by using a blended learning model in terms of the initial ability of high school students. Blended learning is digital-based learning by using digital learning media as aids in learning. This learning is done as a form of implementation of Education 4.0-based learning which the impact of the existence of Industrial Revolution 4.0. This research uses a quasi-experimental type with a pre-test post-test control design research design. The sampling technique was carried out using purposive sampling and obtained as many as 28 students who were in the experimental group (who were taught using a blended learning model) and 25 students who were in the control group (who were taught using ordinary learning). The results of testing normality and homogeneity of data using Levenes' test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov analysis obtained the results that the data in both learning groups were normally distributed and homogeneous. Referring to the prerequisite test results, hypothesis testing is performed using a Two-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA Two Path). The results of hypothesis testing indicate that there is an increase in students 'mathematical problem-solving abilities that are taught using blended learning models in terms of students' initial mathematical abilities. This result strengthens the evidence that the use of blended learning models has a significant effect on improving students' mathematical abilities and provides new learning experiences for students.

Abstract

Referring to Government Regulation No. 30 of 1990 concerning Higher Education as an elaboration of Law No. 2 of 1989 concerning the National Education System which states that the aim of national education is to form a whole person. But in its implementation, the implementation of tertiary institutions places too much emphasis on the cognitive or academic aspects of higher education institutions. To improve the ability of instructors from the Universitas  Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) to conduct Training of Trainers with experts from the Higher Education. The implementation often clashes with the lecture schedule. The schedule for implementing soft skills training often clashes with the schedule of college students. But these problems can be overcome by collaborating and asking for permission from the faculty so that the student can take part in soft skills training. Involving as many lecturers as possible with Masters (S2) and Doctors (S3) degrees by providing debriefing. UMSU is the largest private university in North Sumatra, thus the indicators of soft skills success should be used as benchmarks for other private universities that have not had the opportunity to develop soft skills. Keywords: Bachelor, Soft skills, Extracurricular

Abstract

Islam got a negative precedent by some particular people because of radicalism and terrorism issues. This study aims at identifying some prominent Islamic figures' opinions towards those issues and how the literature explains them. This study is a phenomenology research. The researcher collected the data of the study through interviews and documentation. Then, the collected data were analyzed qualitatively using an interactive model analysis. The results of the study show that: (1) the informants believe that radicalism and terrorism are caused by misunderstanding the concept of jihad by some particular people, and that misunderstanding brings negative precedent towards Islam; and (2) based on the explanation in several kinds of literature, Islam never teaches people to be radical or terrorists. People need to study the real meaning of the jihad concept. Besides, Islam is not rigid and does not depend on form. People can implement it within any framework of virtue and in any time dimension. Showing the face of Islam that rahmatan lil 'alamin will prevent Muslims from Huntington's trap so that Islam is not seen as radical and terrorist.

Abstract

The question of professionalization is still often questioned by people, but there are clear characteristics and detailed elements that are supportive of the understanding of professionalization. Likewise the teacher's position has been confirmed as an educational profession. Because it's only natural this profession gets its proper place in the middle of other professions. The education profession requires professional competence of teachers, which creates certification requirements and extensive experience which, among others, is obtained from teacher education institutions and quality teacher education programs, relevant to the needs of the field, and takes place on an ongoing basis. When local governments have a strong political will accompanied by policies that prioritize the importance of education as a human investment effort in the region, it is certain that the quality of education will be upheld. Conversely, if the regional government views education as not important, so that the vision and mission of education in the region is not clearly formulated and cannot be developed into a solid education fraction, it will be easy to guess that education in the region will not be good.As a result, education fractions will run unprofessionally, schools will be managed ineffectively. Finally, the vision and mission in the school will turn into something that is considered too luxurious. So this condition will encourage education fractions in the regions to lose their direction in carrying out their functions professionally. Keywords: Professionalism, School

Abstract

This study is an experimental research that aims to investigate the effect of the Blended Learning Model with Moodle on the students’ writing achievement. This research was conducted at SMK Tritech Informatika on Jalan Bhayangkara No. 484 Kecamatan Medan Tembung. The samples of the study were the eleventh-grade students of the first semester in the 2019/2020 academic year. There were two parallel classes, which each class consisted of 18 students. The researcher administered a pre-test and post-test about writing news item text to the students to obtain the data. Then, the researcher analyzed the data using a t-test to determine the effect of the model used. The result of the analysis shows that there was a difference in writing achievement between the students who were taught using Blended Learning Model and those who were taught using the conventional method. The value of the t-test proved it. the t-score was 3.12 and t-cv at the level of significance of 0.05 (1.690), which means that t-test (3.12) >t-cv (1.690). Based on the research finding, this study concludes that Blended Learning Model has a significant effect on the students' writing achievement.

Abstract

Language learning demands the learners to provide themselves with basic language skills. One of the skills is listening. One aspect of listening skills is word recognition. Related to that issue, the objective of this research was to find out the significant effect of shadowing technique on students' listening in word recognition. This study followed the Experimental research method. The researcher took SMP Muhammadiyah 02 Pahlawan, Medan, A.Y 2019/2020  as the study location. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students. Since there were only two classes in the eighth grade, this study took the population as the sample. The researcher used one class as the experimental group and the other class as the control group. Each class consisted of 30 students. The instruments of the data collection were listening tests. The researchers administrated the tests as the pre-test and post-test to both experimental and control groups. Based on the data analysis, the result shows that applying the shadowing technique influences students’ listening ability in word recognition, which was proven by the result of the t-test. The t-score was higher than t-cv (5.2915 > 2.024), = 0.05, at  df = 28. In other words, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected; the effect of shadowing technique on the students' listening in word recognition was 63.80% and 36.20% from the other factors.

Abstract

Soil Transmitted Helmiths (STH) infections is still a problem in many areas of the world, there are more than 1.5 billion people, or 2.4% of the world population is infected with intestinal worms that are transmitted through the soil. STH distribution in Indonesia includes all islands in Indonesia, where the prevalence is highest in Papua and North Sumatra with a prevalence of between 50% to 80%. One source of infection was water and mud used in the cultivation of vegetables. Contamination worms may occur especially on vegetables that propagate in the soil or close to the soil. This research is performed in an analytic study with cross sectional design. vegetables are included in the sample in this research was lettuce, leeks, cabbage, spinach, and mustard as many as 50 samples taken from traditional markets and modern markets in Medan city. From the results done, it is known that the highest positive results is in traditional markets as much as 10 vegetables or (40.0%) and the lowest positive results is in modern markets as much as 3 vegetables or (25.0%). Based on these results we can conclude that there are differences between traditional markets and modern markets as evidenced by the value of p in this comparison are p=0,035, So there are differences of Soil Transmitted helminths contamination in raw vegetables sold in traditional markets and modern markets
