Abstract

Abstract

Psychologically, various emotions or responses can be evoked by certain colors and textures, the same in architecture. A baby's visual development can be significantly influenced by color and texture. It may also affect the child's emotional development, linguistic abilities and intellectual capabilities as they grow. This study examined the connection between global health and well-being and the interior design of childcare facilities, using the ABUAD multisystem childcare facilities and Telnet International School's childcare facilities as case studies. Census was employed to obtain the staff and parents' population at the care centers with a total number of 39 while the children at both care centers was 33. The study which employed a mixed-method approach relied on primary data (questionnaire) and unstructured interviews, alongside keen observation, amongst others. Staff and Parents were interviewed to gather data on the overall satisfaction and perceived impact of the interior design on the well-being of the children and staff. The findings suggest that incorporating vibrant and stimulating colors combined with soft textures in childcare facilities can positively impact a child's overall development, fostering creativity, cognitive skills, and emotional well-being. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of considering the psychological effects of color and texture in architectural design to create nurturing environments for children. Therefore, designers are advised to evaluate the safety and functionality of day-care centers, ensuring that it is easy to navigate and provide ample opportunities for exploration and play.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the potential of scaffolding-based temporary architectural design within the framework of sustainable architecture. Traditionally utilized as a temporary structural element to facilitate construction processes, scaffolding has increasingly evolved into a central component in spatial formation across diverse design contexts. Employing a qualitative case study methodology with research about design approach, this research examines architectural typologies in Indonesia that utilize scaffolding as a fundamental element. The selected case studies span various project scales, encompassing both private and public functions and ranging from small to medium-sized developments. The primary aim of this study is to demonstrate how temporary structural elements can be reimagined as core components in spatial formation, presenting possibilities across various architectural applications. The reflections derived from this investigation are articulated as concepts and ideas that showcase how the temporality of architecture and structural elements can enhance sustainability in design. This study underscores the attributes of flexibility, adaptability, efficiency, and temporality in spaces and buildings formed through scaffolding-based designs. The findings reveal that innovative and creative applications of temporary structural elements as spatial formers hold considerable potential to advance sustainability in architectural discourse. The multifunctionality of such elements paves the way for more exploratory and unconventional design approaches. Additionally, this research highlights that scaffolding, when applied as a primary architectural element, can align with sustainability principles by enabling the creation of efficient, temporary spaces that are both adaptable and flexible. As a result, this study provides valuable insights for practitioners and academics seeking to develop innovative and sustainable approaches in architectural design

Abstract

Generale rules of thumb for PV-tilt in certain area is equal to the latitude angle of the area. Following the rule, PV system on low-latitude area such as Indonesia should be installed in low PV-tilt angle to receive optimum irradiance. Furthermore, installing PV in low tilt angle has many advantages such as reducing the inter-row spacing requirements, increasing the coverage ratio and power density, increasing more PV numbers in lesser area, generating low-cost PV electricity that resulting in higher economy savings. However, installing PV in low tilt angle has also disadvantages such as dust deposition that resulting in less energy efficiency. Furthermore, for roof integrated photovoltaic in the tropics, pitched roof design in certain angles is preferable to response to high precipitation and to reduce minimum indoor room temperature. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the performance of several PV-tilt design options and identify the optimum tilt angle of horizontal integrated PV based on annual irradiance received and monthly energy fluctuation, particularly in Indonesia. Simulation method is used to generate the number of annual irradiances for several selected sites in Indonesia. Setting on 10° to 30° PV-tilt angle seems to be a good design option based on annual irradiance and percentages of energy fluctuation.
