The good city is an indication of good process of urban planning. In the planning phase, there is a simulation process about how all kinds of urban elements are related, and also have good synergistic between one another. Tunjungan, as one of the city blocks that formed the image of Surabaya, is an example of dynamic development. The big gap between ideal arrangement and real conditions can not be avoided. Partial development of it is one of the reason. This study is the identification of the gap between good city condition that expected by the planners, against the real condition in the field. The result will show which urban elements are lacking, but potentially can be fixed. The final findings are some guidance to develop Tunjungan block more synergy with the purpose of initial planning.

Title: Potential Development of Tunjungan Triangle Blocks As Part of Image of The CityMaker Good urban space is created from a good urban planning also. In the planning phase of the city, it is simulated how a good city consists of well synchronized urban components. Tunjungan, as one of the important formers of Surabaya character, is the most dynamic developed block. The gap between good planning and real condition, was become larger due to partially development. The diversity of land ownership, the capabilities of each developer and so on, are some of the causes. Yet the success of an urban architectureis affected by the ability of spatial planning and city planning collectively.Integrated development involving all aspects of urban space constituency is something that is expected to happen. This study attempted to read the conditions of the triangular block of Tunjungan from urban planning theory perspectives, then reflected on the real conditions in the field. The goal is to get a recommendation based on the development potential of urban elements that will strengthen the identity of the city of Surabaya itself.

The purpose of this paper is to reflectively explore minimalist architecture as an architecture that is driven by the reduction-based design method. The discussion aims to reframe the design processes and methods of minimalist architecture as informed by field observation. The phenomenon of applying a minimalist architectural approach has become a trend in small-scale housing in Indonesia lately. In the country, the small-scale residential design processes take place in different contexts and are faced with various limitations, from resources, budgets, land size, materials, and so on. The study will frame this discussion around exploring the reductive design method as a way of responding to these limitations. Informed by design strategies from the modern architecture movement, the study was conducted by observing reduction strategies in eight small-scale domestic design which was published and well-narrated in various media. The study findings demonstrate that the reduction does not only exist in the visual aspect of the design and construction process. It also exist in numerous other design elements, such as materials, forms, spaces, and ornamentation, as a strategic response towards the limitations of various resources.

This paper aims to trace and map the variety of Double Skin Façade (DSF) in residential designs in Indonesia. This response to issues regarding technology development, design strategy, and the role of DSF in buildings related to aesthetic, environmental, and materiality issues in design practice. A qualitative approach with a descriptive observation case study method was conducted on various modern residential architectural designs buildings in Indonesia to illustrate how designers positioned this double skin facade in their design. The connection between the DSF with tectonic, aesthetic, sustainability, and environmental issues is shown in this study. This paper set the study boundaries for exploring residential designs' typology because the limited scale project allowed the designer to have considerable flexibility and exploration of creativity. The residential architectural design also allows the role of the DSF to be integrated with a passive design strategy, compared to commercial or public building design. The findings suggest various strategies and design exploration mapping related to DSF design. The results show that it can form a new character for contemporary Indonesian architecture and become a catalogue of exploratory, strategic, and responsive design elements in its practices.

This paper aims to discuss the idea of forming flexible and adaptive architecture for variousscenarios through the perspective of everyday architectural knowledge. The background of this study is basedon the issue and phenomenon of the development of housing to be more varied than just a living space, but also various other additional functions during a pandemic. Multiple activities outside the home are nowpart of the domestic activities themselves. A study of a residential building design illustrates howeverydayoperations reflect the adaptability and flexibility of domestic space. The exploration and analysis of the studyobject are presented through the redrawing of the space configuration along with the trajectory of dailyactivities. The connection between space, time, and users is described as a daily practice that has thepotential to develop future design methods. The findings of this qualitative study are to see how the process of forming adaptive and flexible architecture. Domestic architecture can show the dynamics of space rather thanjust the static configuration visible. The findings of this study include at least three aspects, makingtheeveryday space, using the everyday, and the configuration that is the extra ordinary. Reflections fromthisstudy show the expansion of architectural design practices that need to pay attention to the ability of spacetobe adaptive and flexible based on dynamic everyday life. This study aims to reflect and expand the notion of modularity in architectural design methods. The discussion about modular architecture is certainly familiar across architectural discourse; where its universality has been repeatedly challenged by the post-modern movement. The study aims to unpack and rethink the method and significance of modularity, not only as a means of repetition but as a contextual design response. The study generate reflection towards two lodge architecture design projects. The architecture of lodge provides complexities with regard to various programmatic needs, temporal occupation, quick construction processes, and often deep connection to the surrounding environment. This study examines four reflective concepts which expand the idea and method of modularity in architecture. First, the roof modules in lodge architecture promotes efficient spatial programs. Secondly, the use of modularity allows parallel operation of the building and the construction process. Thirdly, modularity enables construction of architecture as parts constructing the whole, creating connection between spatial scales. Fourth, modularity constructs the inside and outside experience, providing connection with environmental context. This study offers a new perspective on repositioning and expanding modularity, not only as a means of repetition but also as a form of contextual design thinking.
