The language, be it verbal or non-verbal, has been the primary medium of human interactions to take place. However, there still seems to be a little attempt for a thorough investigations in understanding problematic issues that may emerge because of the language. Issues in Applied Linguistics & Language Teaching (IALTEACH) aims at bringing together scholars whose interests fall upon the areas of applied linguistics and language teaching to publish their scholarly articles in IALTEACH. As the term applied implies, this journal combines interdisciplinary discussions on language issues that would bridge not only systematic investigations of the language , but also the theories, research methods, and practices within the scope of applied linguistics and language teaching. Therefore, the contributions are welcome in the following areas (but not limited to) of study; current trends in ELT, language learning & acquisitions, teaching media &technology, linguistic aspects of language learning & teaching, English for specific purposes, and Englishes in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

The use of Semantic and Pragmatics are not limited to a written text only, but they can be of use in the verbal industry. Such as speech, movies, and other verbal activities events. Several theories discussed how we can analyze a movie with Semantic and Pragmatics. One of them is using the action of utterances as one of the ways to know the phenomenon occurrences or we called them as Speech Act.For this study, the researcher uses the conversation between each character with their target speech in the movie as the object of research, meanwhile, the characters who play the role in the movie will work as the subject. The researcher uses Qualitative Descriptive, and the results will be described in a term. The results indicate that there are several forms, functions, effects, situations, and classifications of speech acts in the movie “Doctor Strange”.

Abstract

The current pandemic has changed all aspects of life, including education. Some of the changes are the time and place of teaching due to the pandemic forcing the teaching and learning process to shift to online platforms (Zhao, 2021). As a result of these changes, the interaction between teachers and students in a classroom is also affected. By employing descriptive qualitative design, this research focused on analyzing classroom interaction in an online classroom during COVID-19 pandemic. The data were collected through observation. To analyze the data, David Rose’s pedagogic register analysis (2014, 2018) was employed. The findings showed that online classroom interaction revealed the relation between teacher efficacy and students’ positive attitudes. Then, it also showed that 21st-century skills impacted teacher’s adaption of teaching materials. Last, online classroom interaction also showed the consistency of teacher roles both in offline and online classes.

Abstract

English took a crucial part in the world. It has become an international language all over the world, and everyone should learn English. English for Young Learners should start right away, as soon as possible. The implementation aims to achieve students who can learn English well since they are in kindergarten and the other aims are the authors can become a good teacher with good teaching method for the students. The place for the teaching is TK Generasi Pengubah. The participants for the implementation are 17 students. The team conducted the meeting four times and each meeting have different materials for the students. As a result of the implementation, the team are welcomed by the students at that school. The students do enjoy every meeting of the lesson and even ask the members to come again to teach them

Abstract

In teaching and learning English, many students have difficulty understanding the text in a reading, especially the descriptive text. Therefore, the objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of the THIEVES strategy in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text at the eighth-grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Fatahillah Tarempa. It was an experimental research using one group pretest-posttest design. The total population is 109 students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Fatahillah Tarempa. In this research, the researcher used purposive sampling with a sample of 35 eighth-grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Fatahillah Tarempa. To collect the data, the researcher used tests and questionnaires. The test consists of a pre-test and post-test to determine how effective is the THIEVES strategy in reading comprehension of descriptive text. And using a questionnaire to know the students respond to the THIEVES strategy. In this research, the mean score of the pre-test was 63,86 before the treatment. After the treatment, the mean score of the post-test was 79.43. Then the researcher used the t table to calculate and hypothesize. The result showed that the test of (t-table = df = 0.6817 = 34) at the 5% significance level. The questionnaire showed that students' responses to the THIEVES strategy in reading comprehension of descriptive texts are ACCEPTABLE. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the THIEVES strategy was effective in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text at the eighth-grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Fatahillah Tarempa.

Abstract

Legal translation is a translation made for interest and has a legal nature, an example of legal translation is the translation of a notary deed. This translation includes institutional translation because it has a close relationship in culture and is quite difficult to translate by ordinary people. Therefore, here the author will look for several solutions that can be used by other translators when they want to translate the same legal text. Here the author finds several techniques that can be used in translating legal texts and some online references that can be used if you find an equivalent or term in the law. There are several strategies used by the author when translating notarial deed documents, such as the use of literal translation, adaptive translation, calque translation, official translation, cultural equivalence, transference, and various online references that are used to support better translation results
