Abstract

Emesis gravidarum is a common complaint in the first trimester of pregnancy and can negatively impact maternal well-being and fetal development if not promptly addressed. One non-pharmacological approach that is gaining popularity is acupressure therapy at the P6 point. This study aimed to analyze the effect of massage at the P6 point on reducing emesis gravidarum levels in first-trimester pregnant women at the Landasan Ulin Public Health Center in Banjarbaru. The study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 15 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. The intervention, which involved massage at the P6 point, was performed for three consecutive days, twice daily for two minutes. The level of emesis gravidarum was measured using the Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) instrument. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed a significant reduction in emesis gravidarum levels, with a mean pretest score of 2.93 and a posttest score of 2.00 (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that massage at the P6 point is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester. P6 massage can be a safe, simple, and self-administered non-invasive and non-pharmacological therapy alternative. This therapy is recommended for implementation in nursing practice and maternal health services in primary healthcare facilities. This research provides a foundation for future researchers to further explore non-pharmacological therapies, specifically P6 point massage, for emesis gravidarum in first-trimester pregnant women. Researchers are encouraged to replicate the study with a larger sample size and explore combinations of these methods with other relaxation techniques and educational videos to enhance effectiveness.

Abstract

In Lampung province, the prevalence reaches 25% and Central Lampung Regency it exceeds 30% with an infant mortality rate of 15.17%. This condition contributes to an increased risk of low APGAR scores in new-borns. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal hemoglobin levels and new born Apgar scores at PKM Bangun Rejo, Central Lampung Regency, in 2025. This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 mothers in labor selected using total sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and analysed with the Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that most mothers had normal hemoglobin levels (non-anemic) 23 respondents (76.7%), while anemic mothers were 7 respondents (23.3%). New-born Apgar scores indicated that the majority were not asphyxiated 22 new-borns (73.3%), while asphyxia occurred in 8 new-borns (26.7%). Statistical analysis revealed p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) and OR = 63.0 (95% CI: 4.34–820.02), indicating a significant relationship between maternal hemoglobin levels and new born Apgar scores. It can be concluded that maternal anemia increases the risk of neonatal asphyxia. Routine hemoglobin checks, nutrition education, and adherence to iron supplementation are strongly recommended to prevent asphyxiain new-borns.

Abstract

Background: Low breast milk production is a common and disturbing problem for breastfeeding mothers, often cited as the main cause of early cessation of breastfeeding. Limited breast milk production, both perceived and actual, greatly affects around 30-80% of breastfeeding mothers, making it one of the most common challenges during the postpartum period. Method: This study used a scoping review method. This study consisted of several steps, namely identifying scoping review questions, identifying relevant literature sources, selecting literature, compiling, summarizing, and reporting results. The criteria for articles used were articles published in 2015-2025; articles discussing the use of herbs as galactagogues in breastfeeding mothers; articles discussing factors influencing exclusive breastfeeding; articles accessed in full, peer-reviewed articles, primary research, scoping reviews, coverage reviews, literature reviews. The databases used by researchers were Pubmed, Google Scholar and Science Direct. Results: Based on critical appraisal, 7 articles were obtained. Developing countries include Indonesia with 1 article, Ghana with 1 article, Ethiopia with 1 article, Thailand with 2 articles, while in developed countries, New York with 1 article, Australia with 1 article. The results of the study found 3 themes, namely Knowing the knowledge of breastfeeding mothers about the use of herbs, Ginger as an increase in breast milk production, and Understanding the resolution of breastfeeding mothers regarding the use of herbs. The results obtained indicate that a mother's knowledge is closely related to the level of education she has. The level of education is related to the ability to receive or remember information or knowledge received by a mother. Ginger is believed to induce systemic vasodilation and increase blood supply to the mammary glands, because it can increase human body temperature and induce vasodilation, which then leads to increased breast milk production. Mothers are able to overcome breastfeeding challenges or accept their breastfeeding journey, for example, mothers begin to accept the fact that breast milk supplies are limited so they have to supplement it with formula or are unable to store milk stocks in the refrigerator or mothers start using herbs as galactagogues to facilitate their breast milk production. However, this acceptance often comes after a period of hard struggle. Therefore, breastfeeding mothers tend to rely on family, friends, health professionals, or the internet for information on how to increase breast milk production. Conclusion: The use of herbs as galactagogues in breastfeeding mothers is very diverse. Many breastfeeding mothers believe they are able to provide breast milk without any obstacles, such as a poor milk supply. The use of herbs as galactagogues is partly due to understanding breastfeeding mothers' knowledge about the use of herbs, especially ginger, to increase breast milk production, and understanding breastfeeding mothers' resolutions regarding herbal use.

Abstract

The level of reproductive health knowledge affects the incidence of reproductive health problems in adolescents in Indonesia. Based on data from SDKI (2017), it shows that adolescents' understanding of reproductive health is still in the moderate category, which is 67.9% for female adolescents and 61.2% for male adolescents, which can be influenced by the supervision system and regulations in the school environment. The study was quantitative in nature with an observational analytic design using a cross sectional study form. Samples were taken using stratified random sampling technique on adolescents aged 15-18 years who were actively attending MAN 2 Kota Serang and MA Ibad Ar-Rahman Islamic Boarding School. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate analysis techniques using the chi-square test. There were 54 (56.3%) of the total 96 respondents who had a good level of knowledge. The percentage of boarding school students with a good level of reproductive health knowledge was 68.1% while non-boarding school students were 44.9% in the same knowledge level group. Based on the results of statistical tests using the chi-square test, a significant relationship was found with a p-value of 0.040. This study indicate that the type of school affects the level of reproductive health knowledge in adolescents, where the level of reproductive health knowledge of adolescents from non-boarding schools is better than that of adolescents from boarding schools.

Abstract

Birth preparation is essential for pregnant women, their husbands, and healthcare workers to ensure a smooth delivery and reduce the risk of complications. Adequate knowledge and husband’s support contribute to increasing the readiness of third-trimester pregnant women in facing childbirth. Objective: This study aims to determine the correlation between knowledge and husband’s support on birth preparation with the readiness of third-trimester pregnant women at Ketapang 2 Health Center, Sampit in 2025. Methods: This analytic quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at Ketapang 2 Health Center, Sampit. A total of 35 third-trimester pregnant women were selected using accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test. Results: Most respondents had good knowledge about birth preparation (32 respondents; 91.4%) and received husband’s support (33 respondents; 94.3%). Thirty-four respondents (97.1%) were declared ready to face childbirth. Fisher’s Exact Test results showed a p-value of 0.026 (p ≤ 0.05), indicating a significant correlation between knowledge and readiness in facing childbirth, and a p-value of 0.057 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant correlation between husband’s support and readiness. Conclusion: Although not statistically significant, both knowledge and husband’s support remain important in improving the readiness of third-trimester pregnant women. Therefore, enhancing education and family support, especially from husbands, should remain a focus in birth preparation efforts
