Abstract

Social media facilitates the delivery of information without having to go directly to the field, allows rapid and wide distribution of information, and increases satisfaction both internally (Diskominfo staff) and externally (the community). Active users show interest in and comfort with Diskominfo's official accounts, as evidenced by various forms of interaction such as likes, comments and resharing. Supporting factors for success include information disclosure and regulations that support transparency and accountability. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include limited internal human resources and low public digital literacy, which hinder the optimization of information dissemination evenly.

Abstract

This research explores the dynamics of long-distance communication between children and their parents, focusing on students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar who live apart from their families. Effective communication within the family plays a vital role in shaping emotional well-being and personal stability for students living away from home. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method, the study gathered data through interviews, observations, and documentation. Grounded in Koerner and Fitzpatrick's Family Communication Patterns theory, the research categorizes family interactions into four types: consensual, pluralistic, protective, and laissez-faire. The results show that students from consensual and pluralistic families tend to receive greater emotional support and sustain closer relationships with their parents. On the other hand, those from protective and laissez-faire family backgrounds often encounter limited interaction and emotional distance, leading to heightened psychological stress. Communication is further challenged by factors such as geographic separation, academic demands, and unstable internet access. This study enhances our understanding of how family communication functions in long-distance scenarios and highlights the need for universities to offer stronger emotional and social support for students living away from home.

Abstract

Social media allows users to share, interact, and create content. TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms in Indonesia, especially among teenagers, millennials, and Gen Z. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of TikTok usage intensity on the mental health of Generation Z students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. This study further examines how internal and external factors are crucial to understanding how TikTok influences user behavior. The research method used a quantitative approach with 95 respondents selected through a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using the Pearson correlation test and simple linear regression. The results showed a significant relationship between the duration of TikTok use (1–3 hours per day) and increased anxiety and stress. The use of TikTok as a social media platform among students who are active on TikTok has an impact on life satisfaction and mental health. These findings support the Social Comparison and Uses and Gratifications theories, and demonstrate the importance of digital literacy and time management in using social media to maintain student mental health.
